"We really enjoyed our stay."
The cottage was comfortable and well equipped and Dan was really helpful and accommodating. Bradwell has a Co-op supermarket and a couple of take aways close by, which was useful. The countryside around is ideal for walking.
"A lovely cottage in a great location."
The village offers a couple of pubs, I would recommend the Shoulder of Mutton (1 minute walk) for good reasonably priced food and a warm welcome. The White Hart seemed to be closed, not sure if that is permenant. The chip shop is also good and there seemend to be a bake house doing fresh pizzas en route (we didn't get chance to try that). Having the CoOp so handy is great for the "I forgot that" moments. Accross the road and down the lane and you are on to walks across the fields (at least it seems so, we didn't venture that way). At the back is a very well maintained play park which my 9 year old would have used more had the rain ever stopped! The cottage itself is beautifully appointed with lots of lovely touches with the decor and is very clean. We found the beds comfy athough my in-laws said the master bed was a bit soft. Showers are good and powerful and heating is easily controlled as needed (we needed it in July unfortunately!). The kitchen area is small and it is equipped to a basic level although lots of pans. The hob takes a little working out. Traffic is niosey at times and the church clock chiming takes a little getting used to. Overall a lovely cottage, great location and amenities, would definately recommend it.
"We had a great stay in this lovely cottage."
The location is great, with good access to the Peaks. The owner has carried out renovations to a very high standard and the two superb bathrooms, in particular, were very much appreciated. The cottage was well furnished, the beds were comfy, and the whole place was beautifully cleaned and maintained. Everything we needed was provided, including a good selection of pans, crockery, sharp knives, caffetiere (as well as dishcloths, washing-up liquid, tablets for the dishwasher and washing machine, etc.). Five adults could sit around the dining table (which is in the kitchen), by moving one of the chairs to the end, but seating 6 would have been a very tight squeeze. As others have said, traffic noise at the front of the house can be surprisingly loud at times as the front of the house opens straight onto the pavement. We got used to this (and it reduces a lot at night), but secondary glazing might help.
"The cottage is in a lovely village with good access to great walks."
The bathrooms were outstanding and cosy wood burner much appreciated. We would like to have known this cottage is on a very busy road. The noise from heavy good vehicles, buses, coaches and containers was a real shock and nearly ruined our holiday. The bed mattress was so soft that we both woke up with painful backs.
"We had a lovely stay at Happy Feet Cottage."
Really homely and tastefully decorated with great bathrooms and comfortable beds. A little tricky to find the parking, but the directions were excellent Nice additional touches like the dog wash A little traffic-noise in the front bedroom but we soon got used to it and slept well after lovely walks in the Peaks
"A lovely and well presented cottage with thoughtful touches by the owners."
It provides an excellent base for visiting places and areas of interest in the Peak District and has convenient shops and amenities within a short walk.
"Wonderful property, which is extremely well equipped."
Fantastic water pressure on the showers was also much appreciated. Immaculately clean and good comms before, during and after the stay. Beds comfy and plenty of room in the bedrooms. Would and will happily return.
"We understand that things can happen which are outside your control but which, nevertheless, impact the customers experience and as retired hotel owners we found that when things went wrong it is best to own it, apologise and acknowledge that things were not up to the standard you normally aim for and make an offer of compensation that is acceptable to both parties."
It was not your fault that the freezer was frozen so solid that the door was not able to be closed, or that the water from all taps ran yellow/brown that evening and we only had half of a small bottle of fresh water for the night to share till the shop opened the following morning. However neither were these two things our fault either and then the list of irksome things just grew - with no replacement bin liner (your cleaner provided us with a roll of mini bags for bathroom), a 90 percent empty washing up liquid bottle and too few dishwasher tabs for the length of our booking. Then small details like the vacuum cleaner being left with dust and hair and not emptied and the cupboard full of oddments just thrown in - one saucepan with a mismatched lid lying on top on the oven gloves and racks and cake tins piled on top. For the grand sun we had paid for the cottage it appeared that the detail was not important and it is this presentation that forms opinions. One messy cupboard by itself is nothing but added in with the other things just made us feel we did not wish to stay on after the first night. I personally found the master bedroom mattress very uncomfortable but accept it might suit other people. However, the bases of the middle and bottom drawers in the bedroom were frankly broken and unusable. The younger family members did stay for 2 nights as they had purchased tickets for local events and they didn’t worry about the things I have commented on, however it was a free break for them and I’m glad they had some use from the cottage. Suffice to say Happy Feet Cottage was not for us.
Hi, I understand your frustrations, however, if you’d just called on the number I provided you it could have all been dealt with straight away. Instead you contacted Sykes who then emailed which I didn’t see for hours. I’m afraid the mattress comfort is a personal thing, and we have multiple comments saying that that bed is really comfy. I personally like a firmer mattress, however I can’t please everyone. You paid a very high sum for the cottage, which is something totally out of my control. However you were told that it was because you’d booked over two handover periods. Moving the booking by one day would have saved you hundreds of pounds. The cottage is self catering so we provide a few dishwasher tablets and a minimum of a 1/4 bottle of washing up liquid. For most groups this always seems to be more than enough for a week. Any more you’re expected to get yourselves I’m afraid, it’s not a hotel. There were bin bags, however they’d been pushed to the back of the cupboard so I apologise for this. Maybe in the future a hotel would be more suitable for you than a self catering house. Property Owner
"The sofas were a little "firm" but in all honesty the property had a lovely homely atmosphere & had everything we needed & was lovely to return back to at the end of our busy days out visiting this wonderful area of Derbyshire."
We found that travel on public transport was perfectly viable & enabled us to enjoy the lovely countryside. Would recommend local Fish & Chip shop & Lynne's wonderful food at the Shoulder of Mutton! Thanks Dan & Tracey
"The cottage was fantastic."
There were four of us mountain biking for the weekend and the location and set up of the cottage was ideal for our needs. There was plenty of excellent riding out of Hope and Castleton and pubs and shops a very short walk away. The only negative comment is that the blurb said you could get 6 x adult bikes in the bike store. We just managed to get 4 in with 3 upright and balancing precariously.
"Loved the cottage, the park out the back, the area around Bradwell and the sunshine (well done for organising that!"
) Stella's kitchen was a wonderful find that we will talk about for years. A very special holiday xxx
"Great cottage in the centre of Bradwell."
Easy access to local walks including across to Castleton and Hope. There were six in our party and we had sufficient room in the cottage and enjoyed being able to walk to the park, Co-op, deli and post office. Slept really well in the beds and appreciated the modern bathrooms. Would happily book again.
Thanks for all of the feedback Amelia. It’s been a pleasure having your party stay. The neighbours really enjoyed you guys being there as well. Property Owner
"Spacious, very clean, comfy, cosy cottage."
Well thought out, quirky additions to the decor. Lovely wood fire for chilly evenings. The house itself is very dog friendly but due to the small outside space being a walk through for neighbours, were not allowed to let the dog out for a morning wee without getting dressed and going for a walk. No local fields either where allowed to take dog off lead. Not much room in kitchen cupboard to store food. Great kitchen facilities & extremely well equipped. Showers & bath we're fab with endless instant hot water. The heating was easy to use & adjust if needed & kept place cosy. Loved the place, thank you.
"We enjoyed our stay."
Two suggestions: it would have been very nice to have wood, fire starters, kindling and matches to get us started with a fire; and it would be very nice to have some sort of Welcome package. Everywhere we have stayed on our six week trip left us some sort of welcome. We did really enjoy the cottage.
"Happy Feet Cottage has been refurbished to a very high standard, the decor is beautifully done, the attention to detail in he cottage has been well thought out."
The bathrooms are lovely, plenty of hot water, great showers.Everything you need in the kitchen, lovely comfortable beds.Really enjoyed our stay would not hesitate to recomend Happy Feet Cottage to anyone,3 pubs close buy that serves food and a co_op across the road.We will definately return to Happy Feet Cottage
Thankyou for the lovely feedback Elizabeth. I hope you come back and stay with us again at one of our cottages. Check out Sunshine cottage, and Babbling Brook which will hopefully be ready by Easter. Dan. Property Owner
"This is a beautifully decorated and furnished cottage."
It was a pleasure to stay here, it is a short distance away from lots of lovely walks, pubs and villages. We would love to come back.
"Comfortable cosy property, well equipped kitchen, lovely bathrooms with great showers."
Very comfortable beds. Great location for exploring the Peaks and only 30 mins from Sheffield. Everything you need in Bradwell within walking distance. Owners very helpful and contactable if any issues.
"Beautiful cottage, decoration and facilities of a high standard."
Lots of little touches of a woodland/ country theme. Very comfortable beds, bathrooms really lovely. Kitchen well equipped. Lounge very comfy, log burning for the colder months. Excellent base for the Peak District. Locally Pubs with food. Village Shop very well stocked Co op variety of items. Catered for Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten Free and Lactose intolerance. Great Fish & Chip shop. The Bakehouse great for fresh sandwich’s etc. Friendly village met nice people when out walking. Some great walks from there it’s self. Only down side was we are all light sleepers and the traffic at night was disturbing. Although owner has said he plans to address this issue. Would visit again as it accommodate the 6 of us easily and comfortably.
"Happy Feet Cottage is in a good location as most attractions are within an easy drive."
The cottage is well equipped with a few thoughtful extras, although a coffee machine or cafetiere would have been appreciated. The beds were comfortable with lovely bed linen, cushions and throws. A lot of thought has gone into the decor and soft furnishings with lots of personal touches. The cottage is on the main road through the village so traffic noise seems loud at night as 2 of the bedrooms are at the front of the property but it didn't disturb us once asleep!! The outside seating area is nice although isn't private as a walk through for 3 other cottages. We wouldn't hesitate to return. All amenities in the village are just a few minutes walk away. Lots of lovely walks from the cottage so no need to use your car.
"Not so good aspects first - road noise was definitely an issue for us and disturbed our sleep as did the church clock which chimed every 15 minutes."
In all other aspects the cottage was lovely, well equipped and owner explained the reason for lack of coffee machine and barbecue. Good location for exploring the area.
"We had a really lovely time with friends and made the most of the pubs for their top notch food."
Looking at going back sadly is not an option as the price rise is a massive £479 pound, and climbs up even more after July 1st. We had had a great time but your bes prices are do not reflect VFM and are not realistic.
"A lovely cosy cottage and well decorated."
The bathrooms are a luxury, very nicely done. But this is not the choice if one of the party suffers pet allergies. Shop, pub and fish and chip shop two minutes walk away. Buxton, Bakewell, Matlock and Tideswell all an easy drive away. But buses run every two hours.
"We stayed at the cottage for 4 nights with my boyfriend’s dog, and it was amazing."
The property was really clean and equipped with everything you may need for a stay. We forgot the dog’s bed so were really impressed with a dog bed supplied at the cottage! Dan was extremely helpful with any questions we had, a true attentive host. The location of the cottage is superb for any walks around the Peak District and we’d love to come back
"A very well appointed, (recently refurbished) lovely cottage."
The ensuite bathroom and the main bathroom are very roomy with excellent showers in both and a great slipper bath in the main. The location for the cottage is ideal for exploring the Peak District with amazing walks on the doorstep. The welcome pack was very informative and the suggested walks useful. Coop and bakery two minutes walk away and three pubs all within staggering distance - we only got to try out two - The Bowling Green has a beer garden with amazing views of the distant hills and The Shoulder of Mutton did excellent food. Only two negatives about the cottage - the first being that it is on a very busy road - the noise woke us up throughout the night and the mattress in the master bedroom is very soft although obviously this is personal preference.
"The cottage was full of nice touches."
It has been renovated to a very high standard, the kitchen and bathrooms are both luxurious. It is in a great location in the Peak District with every trip we made within 20 minutes drive. The CoOp is only metres from the cottage. The master bedroom is at the front of the cottage which is on the main road through the village so you can hear passing traffic, but soon got used to that. My sons are both over 6 foot so care required in the top floor bedrooms with have low beams ! The dog shower was handy. Would be more than happy to come back.
"Happy Feet Cottage is a beautiful, clean and comfortable cottage."
It has been recently decorated to a high standard and there are lots of nice finishing touches. It is an ample size for six people and is in a central location for lots of nice walks. The kitchen would benefit the self caterers with a few extras such as serving bowls, colander, grater and maybe a cafetière. The small garden is a walk way for other neighbouring cottages but it is a perfect sun trap in the evenings for a couple of hours. Dogs are allowed in the garden on a lead but must be toileted elsewhere. It should be noted that the cottage is on a very busy road and the traffic noise can be quite loud even in the early hours. Our host Dan was very helpful when I asked about recommendations for local places to eat.
"Happy Feet cottage is beautifully appointed and extremely clean, we had a lovely stay there; It felt like a home from home."
I would thoroughly recommend it as a great base for staying in the Peak District.
"Cottage was compact, clean and has some great features."
Only criticism being that the "private" courtyard is actually a walkway for 2 other properties which I think should be mentioned in the details. This however, did not spoil our stay and when we needed assistance the owner was extremely helpful.
"The cottage was beautiful, very clean and ideal for our family."
We loved the showers! Great location for many walks and cycling.
"Lovely cottage in a great location."
"Really lovely cottage."
Very clean and owners were fantastic at keeping in touch and giving information. Cottage clean and in a great location. Nice pubs within 5 min walk and a good small quality stocked coop 2 mins away. Great for walking in the area with beautiful walks in Hope Valley. Would love to come back again.
"A recently refurbished cottage, very comfortable with many thoughtful touches, finished to a high standard and making good use of the space."
Weather not great for our stay but the cottage was very cosy and warm. The outdoor ‘dog shower’ is brilliant after muddy walks! Garden/courtyard is not fully enclosed (if you have a dog) but this would not stop us booking to stay here again. The owner, Dan is very approachable and helpful. A good base to explore this beautiful part of the Peak District.
Thank you for your lovely feedback, it was great to hear you enjoyed your stay at Happy Feet Cottage, we are really happy to hear you would like to visit again, we will shortly be making the garden fully enclosed, we are just waiting for some good weather to get the gates installed. One again thank you for taking the time to leave feedback, this is very important to us. Property Owner
"This cottage is beautiful, newly renovated and you will want for nothing."
Spacious bedrooms, large bathrooms and easily caters for 6 people. Perfect location to the Peak District, we walked into Castleton. Bradwell is great too, a lovely bakery and a couple of pubs on your doorstep. I would highly recommend and it deserves 10/10.
"Gorgeous cottage in a very good location for exploring the Peak District."
"The cottage was beautifully finished and well fitted."
Owner was very friendly and helpful.
"The cottage really is a home away from home."
Refurbished to a high standard with lots of added luxuries. Excellent wifi, Netflix and heating system. The dog shower was fantastic, it also came in handy to wash very mucky boots. Great location really nice neighbours and good pubs, cafes and shops nearby I would recommend this beautiful cottage and would like to give a BIG thank you to Dan and Tracy
Set in a lovely village perfect for walks on your doorstep, 3 good local pubs all within walking distance of the cottage and all dog friendly. Local shop and fish and chip shop and plenty more just a short drive away. We stayed here with 6 adults and 2 dogs and there was plenty of space for us all. Would definitely stay again soon.
