  • "A lovely cottage!"

The bathrooms in particular were beautiful, and the kitchen was really well equipped. We loved how warm the house was in February! Dan was a fabulous host and dealt with our queries really quickly and efficiently.

The cottage was comfortable and well equipped and Dan was really helpful and accommodating. Bradwell has a Co-op supermarket and a couple of take aways close by, which was useful. The countryside around is ideal for walking.

  • "A lovely cottage in a great location."

The village offers a couple of pubs, I would recommend the Shoulder of Mutton (1 minute walk) for good reasonably priced food and a warm welcome. The White Hart seemed to be closed, not sure if that is permenant. The chip shop is also good and there seemend to be a bake house doing fresh pizzas en route (we didn't get chance to try that). Having the CoOp so handy is great for the "I forgot that" moments. Accross the road and down the lane and you are on to walks across the fields (at least it seems so, we didn't venture that way). At the back is a very well maintained play park which my 9 year old would have used more had the rain ever stopped! The cottage itself is beautifully appointed with lots of lovely touches with the decor and is very clean. We found the beds comfy athough my in-laws said the master bed was a bit soft. Showers are good and powerful and heating is easily controlled as needed (we needed it in July unfortunately!). The kitchen area is small and it is equipped to a basic level although lots of pans. The hob takes a little working out. Traffic is niosey at times and the church clock chiming takes a little getting used to. Overall a lovely cottage, great location and amenities, would definately recommend it.

  • "We had a great stay in this lovely cottage."

The location is great, with good access to the Peaks. The owner has carried out renovations to a very high standard and the two superb bathrooms, in particular, were very much appreciated. The cottage was well furnished, the beds were comfy, and the whole place was beautifully cleaned and maintained. Everything we needed was provided, including a good selection of pans, crockery, sharp knives, caffetiere (as well as dishcloths, washing-up liquid, tablets for the dishwasher and washing machine, etc.). Five adults could sit around the dining table (which is in the kitchen), by moving one of the chairs to the end, but seating 6 would have been a very tight squeeze. As others have said, traffic noise at the front of the house can be surprisingly loud at times as the front of the house opens straight onto the pavement. We got used to this (and it reduces a lot at night), but secondary glazing might help.

  • "The cottage is in a lovely village with good access to great walks."

The bathrooms were outstanding and cosy wood burner much appreciated. We would like to have known this cottage is on a very busy road. The noise from heavy good vehicles, buses, coaches and containers was a real shock and nearly ruined our holiday. The bed mattress was so soft that we both woke up with painful backs.

  • "We understand that things can happen which are outside your control but which, nevertheless, impact the customers experience and as retired hotel owners we found that when things went wrong it is best to own it, apologise and acknowledge that things were not up to the standard you normally aim for and make an offer of compensation that is acceptable to both parties."

It was not your fault that the freezer was frozen so solid that the door was not able to be closed, or that the water from all taps ran yellow/brown that evening and we only had half of a small bottle of fresh water for the night to share till the shop opened the following morning. However neither were these two things our fault either and then the list of irksome things just grew - with no replacement bin liner (your cleaner provided us with a roll of mini bags for bathroom), a 90 percent empty washing up liquid bottle and too few dishwasher tabs for the length of our booking. Then small details like the vacuum cleaner being left with dust and hair and not emptied and the cupboard full of oddments just thrown in - one saucepan with a mismatched lid lying on top on the oven gloves and racks and cake tins piled on top. For the grand sun we had paid for the cottage it appeared that the detail was not important and it is this presentation that forms opinions. One messy cupboard by itself is nothing but added in with the other things just made us feel we did not wish to stay on after the first night. I personally found the master bedroom mattress very uncomfortable but accept it might suit other people. However, the bases of the middle and bottom drawers in the bedroom were frankly broken and unusable. The younger family members did stay for 2 nights as they had purchased tickets for local events and they didn’t worry about the things I have commented on, however it was a free break for them and I’m glad they had some use from the cottage. Suffice to say Happy Feet Cottage was not for us.

Hi, I understand your frustrations, however, if you’d just called on the number I provided you it could have all been dealt with straight away. Instead you contacted Sykes who then emailed which I didn’t see for hours. I’m afraid the mattress comfort is a personal thing, and we have multiple comments saying that that bed is really comfy. I personally like a firmer mattress, however I can’t please everyone. You paid a very high sum for the cottage, which is something totally out of my control. However you were told that it was because you’d booked over two handover periods. Moving the booking by one day would have saved you hundreds of pounds. The cottage is self catering so we provide a few dishwasher tablets and a minimum of a 1/4 bottle of washing up liquid. For most groups this always seems to be more than enough for a week. Any more you’re expected to get yourselves I’m afraid, it’s not a hotel. There were bin bags, however they’d been pushed to the back of the cupboard so I apologise for this. Maybe in the future a hotel would be more suitable for you than a self catering house. Property Owner

There were four of us mountain biking for the weekend and the location and set up of the cottage was ideal for our needs. There was plenty of excellent riding out of Hope and Castleton and pubs and shops a very short walk away. The only negative comment is that the blurb said you could get 6 x adult bikes in the bike store. We just managed to get 4 in with 3 upright and balancing precariously.

Slept really well in the beds and appreciated the modern bathrooms. Would happily book again.

Well thought out, quirky additions to the decor. Lovely wood fire for chilly evenings. The house itself is very dog friendly but due to the small outside space being a walk through for neighbours, were not allowed to let the dog out for a morning wee without getting dressed and going for a walk. No local fields either where allowed to take dog off lead. Not much room in kitchen cupboard to store food. Great kitchen facilities & extremely well equipped. Showers & bath we're fab with endless instant hot water. The heating was easy to use & adjust if needed & kept place cosy. Loved the place, thank you.

The cottage is well equipped with a few thoughtful extras, although a coffee machine or cafetiere would have been appreciated. The beds were comfortable with lovely bed linen, cushions and throws. A lot of thought has gone into the decor and soft furnishings with lots of personal touches. The cottage is on the main road through the village so traffic noise seems loud at night as 2 of the bedrooms are at the front of the property but it didn't disturb us once asleep!! The outside seating area is nice although isn't private as a walk through for 3 other cottages. We wouldn't hesitate to return. All amenities in the village are just a few minutes walk away. The ensuite bathroom and the main bathroom are very roomy with excellent showers in both and a great slipper bath in the main. The location for the cottage is ideal for exploring the Peak District with amazing walks on the doorstep. The welcome pack was very informative and the suggested walks useful. Coop and bakery two minutes walk away and three pubs all within staggering distance - we only got to try out two - The Bowling Green has a beer garden with amazing views of the distant hills and The Shoulder of Mutton did excellent food. Only two negatives about the cottage - the first being that it is on a very busy road - the noise woke us up throughout the night and the mattress in the master bedroom is very soft although obviously this is personal preference.

It has been recently decorated to a high standard and there are lots of nice finishing touches. It is an ample size for six people and is in a central location for lots of nice walks. The kitchen would benefit the self caterers with a few extras such as serving bowls, colander, grater and maybe a cafetière. The small garden is a walk way for other neighbouring cottages but it is a perfect sun trap in the evenings for a couple of hours. Dogs are allowed in the garden on a lead but must be toileted elsewhere. It should be noted that the cottage is on a very busy road and the traffic noise can be quite loud even in the early hours.
