    Extremely clean and bed most comfortable. Not close to any other property so it is very quiet. Owner lives locally and is accessible if needed. Several nice additional touches to make it feel Christmassy. Most enjoyable stay

  • "We were due to stay a week but only stayed 4 nights."

    Originally we booked as a couple but due to unforeseen circumstances we had to bring the dog. We contacted the owner Jess who allowed us to bring him along. The views are lovely but looking at the photos I thought it would be a remote cottage but a bungalow was less than three metres away and they had a yappy dog. As we had a dog this didn’t bother me but maybe would non dog owners. The garden isn’t enclosed so we never got chance to sit out in the good weather (not a problem for non dog owners) there are walks from the cottage but some stiles so we could only go so far so mostly took thrbdog somewhere in the car. Facilities are good and clean and the bed was comfy. Wasn’t able to have a full soak in the bath as the water went cold before it was full but hubby said shower was good. We never needed any heating on but if you wanted it hotter or colder you needed to contact the owner to ask for this, I didn’t personally like this and was glad that I didn’t need to ask for more heating. Only other criticism is that dogs aren’t allowed upstairs and there is no stairgate so we literally pulled the arm chair in front of the stairs to stop him going up, on one occasion when I was taking a quick bath he ran upstairs jumping on the bed and obviously shouldn’t have been there. So my view is people friendly yep but no so much dog friendly.

    Thank you for your review, I will take everything you have mentioned on board. In regards to dogs not been allowed to go upstairs or on furniture as stated in the cottage, I have never had any issues with this before. As you can imagine to keep the cottage to a high standard, cleaning after a dog has been in to stay takes longer and more effort which is understandable and I would not want any evidence of a dog staying for the next guests. Originally I did not allow dog’s to stay in my cottage but after many requests and peoples trust, I have never had an issue before. In regards to not having an enclosed garden I will take this on board, but since allowing dogs as I have many bookings for the year no work can be done while guests are in the cottage. The heating system is not easy to change and if changed incorrectly, it then takes a while to get back to the correct temperature. Guests are more than welcome to contact me and I can change the times or temperature to suit without complications otherwise there becomes a problem as people mess with it. The cottage garden is not currently fully secure but as we have live stock surrounding the cottage , I would not like pets to be unattended anyway. We are very lucky to have access through public footpaths from the front door of the cottage. Unfortunately I do not own the surrounding fields so I can not change the styles or gates for access through the farmers land. I am sorry that you choose to leave earlier.   • "We loved Wortley Barn."

    It is warm and comfortable. Everything worked! The bathroom was great - loads of hot water. It is in a very quiet situation but also a short walk from the village. We had some great days out as well as local walks. We would have liked instructions for the dishwasher - but were able to find information online. Altogether an excellent week In a beautiful part of England.

  • "Our third visit so clearly we are very happy with the barn and its surroundings."

    Had several sessions in the summer house communing wIth the cows! We have been walkers in earlier times but are now too old to go very far up hills; there are however enough manageable walks for us to take both in Bradwell and also further afield. The Monsal Trail is excellent and historically so interesting. We have booked to return next year.

    We have stayed at numerous holiday homes around England and rate this cottage one of the best. The tasteful decoration and comfort made our holiday one to remember. The views and outside space was peaceful and a place to eat meals after a long day in the Peak District.

  • "The living area is cramped due to a large sofa and arm chair as a result of which the dining table is very small."

    Information leaflets are mostly out of date (pre Covid) and the walking routes are dog-eared.There are too many oven dishes for 2 people which means there is little storage space for non-perishable food. Our experience of other holiday lets led us to expect DW tabs,WM detergent, together with a dishcloth and scouring pad none of which were available. We would recommend that all letting companies supply owners with a list of basic essentials to be provided in all properties which could then be included in the property description.

    We particularly loved the nearby Hathersage Lido. The cottage was very comfortable for the 2 of us. Lovely big bed. Everything we needed. We liked it so much we have already booked next year.

  • "Nowhere to store your food packs, all cupboards full, towel rail in bathroom did not work, fridge broke down, need I say more."

    I am really sorry the fridge broke on yourselves it was an unfortunate situation and it is something I could not prevent. A replacement fridge was put in within an hour, until the new one was delivered the next day. There is Cupboard space to the right for food storage. The towel rail in the bathroom did not work due to the heating not being on, as the temperature outside was 30 deg plus. Property Owner

BRADWELL

Castleton 3 miles; Tideswell 4 miles; Buxton 11 miles; Bakewell 12 miles.

Bradwell is a pretty village in the Hope Valley, in a prime position in the Peak District National Park. Tideswell, with its renowned Tideswell church, known as the ‘Cathedral of the Peak’ is just four miles from Bradwell. The picturesque village of Castleton is three miles away, home to fascinating caves, including the Blue John Cavern, and is overlooked by the crumbling Mam Tor or 'Shivering Mountain'. The dramatic scenery of Winnats Pass and Edale in the Edale Valley, famous as the start of the Pennine Way, is nearby. Hathersage is just four miles away and has excellent cafes and an open-air, heated swimming pool. Slightly further afield you can potter around the historic market town of Bakewell, or the Spa town of Buxton, renowned for its spring water, opera house and arts, jazz and opera festivals. It is easy to spend a whole day at Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, whilst there are many historic properties nearby.
