"Beautiful cottage, had everything we needed and it was spotlessly clean."
Richard was a great host - we had privacy but he was on hand if needed. The cottage is located on a small road and was so, so quiet. The view from the bedroom window was beautiful. Highly recommend.
"Pail End is delightful."
It is nicely decorated, clean, and well maintained. The hosts, Richard and Kathy are equally nice. The location is great for exploring the Derbyshire dales over into Staffordshire. There are great walks directly from the front door. We had a great week there. We thoroughly recommend Pail End and would have no hesitation in another visit.
"We had a lovely time at Pail End thank you."
It was perfect for our stay; spotlessly clean and with beautiful views.
"Lovely, quiet accommodation, delightfully decorated by Richard with a beautiful view from the bedroom window."
Richard is very thorough and emails through to you detailed instructions beforehand, so you know what to expect and which we found very helpful. The Sykes ‘Travelling to the Property’ instructions are very good and accurate. From then on, we found it helpful to input “Miner’s Arms Pub, Brassington”, which virtually got us all the way there. (From previous reviews, we realised that putting the postcode into Google wouldn’t get us to Pail End.) We didn’t cook much because we were only there for three days, so for what we needed it was pretty well equipped for our needs. You will have to travel to buy food since there isn’t a shop nearby, but there are a couple of pubs close by, which we didn’t get a chance to try. There is no phone signal but you can use internet services such as WhatsApp. The internet worked well. Being on the edge of the Peaks, the area is beautiful and we had a good walk around Carsington Water and explored the area and villages nearby. It would have been good to stay longer. Definitely recommend Pail End.
"We loved our stay in the quaint cottage!"
We were greeted by Richard who was very accommodating. The cottage was exactly what it said on the tin, it was small, spacious, warm (!) and cosy. It is a perfectly suited cottage for 2 people. Make sure you read the leaflet prior to arriving as it contains important information (especially the detailed directions - which are necessary for your arrival, as there is not phone signal en route). Thank you Pail End!
"A very warm and comfortable little cottage."
"Pail End was just as advertised and just what we wanted for a short break."
Good, well kept and spotless facilities, and location in village with 2 pubs and great walking routes.
"An excellent little cottage with lovely hosts."
one small niggle is that all of my gps apps (Google, Garmin, Waze etc.)have the postcode behind the property up hillside which is a very difficult to navigate and leaves you completely disoriented. If arriving at night it is impossible to see the entrance to the cottage (especially as the main picture is not what you see from the road. A more detailed description of approaching Pail End would be appreciative as it was extremely difficult to find the place. especially as there is no mobile reception to call the owners. Apart from arrival it was a lovely stay in an absolutely gorgeous part of the world
Thanks for that. Regarding the location, our postcode covers a number of lanes at this end of the village so a postcode alone is not enough. Sykes do send out detailed directions after guests book a holiday, with a description of approaching Pail End, and we also leave a light on if arrival time is after dark. Regarding signal, I provide guests in advance with my mobile number for internet-based messaging/calls (WhatsApp, Messenger). What I will do from now on, by advance email, is strongly encourage guests to take notice of the directions and not rely solely on satnav. I have also asked Sykes to emphasise this in the booking confirmation details, and also to rearrange the photos so that the main one is the road-facing view. Hopefully this will ensure that guests can find Pail End easily from now on. Property Owner

"Well equipped cottage set in pretty gardens."
Immaculate, spotlessly clean accommodation. Great base for exploring the local area, Carsington Water, Chatsworth House etc. Set in lovely village and within few minutes walking distance of local pub! Would highly recommend and will definitely re-book if it's ever free!

We have loved our stay here, the views from the bedroom window and garden are beautiful, so peaceful and such a cosy place to come back to after a day out, has everything you need xx would definitely recommend this to anyone, there is also a lovely pub (ye olde gate inn) in the village that does great food & good ale
"Great location in a lovely village with local pubs and easy access to some fantastic walks."
An extremely clean, cosy and comfortable home to stay in which felt totally private even though on the owners’ own premises. Highly recommend!

"It was a nice cosy cottage & was very clean."
"A beautiful little cottage with everything you need, fantastic views, very comfortable bed, in a idyllic part of the world!"
Couldn’t ask for more!!
"Great cottage in the lovely village of Brassington."
The cottage was very clean throughout with all the facilities needed for a self catering stay. Peaceful location with great scenery all around the area. The walking opportunities are exceptional and all from the doorstep of the cottage. Very close to the High Peaks Trail, Limestone Trail, Carsington Water and not forgetting Parwich which is also worth a visit on foot. The two pubs in the village are both very friendly with Covid adapted outdoor seating areas. We had a really enjoyable and relaxing stay at Pail End and would not hesitate to recommend to others considering this property for a break away surrounded by beautiful countryside.
"Lovely spot, excellent accommodation, host very keen to welcome us and spotlessly clean."
Also a huge effort to ensure Covid safety. All excellent TY
"Excellent location in a lovely village."
Close to numerous walks and facilities. Very friendly and helpful owner

Great little cottage ,fantastic views ,walks and bike trails ,the pub up the road does fantastic food especially Sunday roast
"A brilliant cottage, perfect location and absolutely spotless - would definitely recommend."
"It should be noted Richard (our host) made Pail End so covid-19 friendly which reassured us that our stay was as safe as possible."
We were both nervous with booking at this uncertain time but Richard gave us the reassurances we were hoping for, The accommodation met all of our expectations and will give us the confidence to book another stay away,
"Excellent find in the beautiful village of Brassington."
We had a lovely relaxing week here in this perfectly appointed cosy cottage, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Richard and Kathy were excellent hosts and very knowledgeable about the area. There are countless exceptional walks for all abilities within a very short distance from the cottage. a Highlight was the walk to Carsington Water and back in a circular route. Suggest downloading the 'outdoors GPS' app and follow the green dotted lines! Both pubs are very good and extremely welcoming. Spent New Years Eve at Ye Olde Gate Inn and had a great time getting to know the locals. Thanks again Richard and Kathy, we'll see you again soon!
"The cottage is nicely decorated and was very festive for Christmas, the owners left mince pies which was a nice touch."
However my husband is six foot and I have a temporary back problem and we didn't find the very small sofa comfortable. It would also have been nice to have at least one easy chair. The dressing table was badly lit and the stool very uncomfortable, also one of the basket chairs was very small. The wooden stairs are very easy to slip on as were the mats in the bedroom. It would probably be a good idea to point out that there are steps up from the parking area and it's not really suitable for anyone with a disability and the step down into the kitchen is very high it couldd do with another one to make access easier.
"Real selling point is the excellent near by olde gate pub."
Dog friendly, excellent food and beer. Could do with a new mattress in the bedroom. Other than that excellent cottage in an excellent location
"The Cottage was amazing the photos do not give this lovely little cottage the credit it deserves."
The views from the bedroom window are amazing and the village is beautiful with two dog friendly pubs. Will certainly go back had a fantastic time.
"A lovely cottage with beautiful views, in a peaceful village with lots of good walks."
The cottage was nice and clean and the owners were friendly and helpful.
"The cottage was extremely comfortable and well equipped."
It has been very tastefully converted from what I assume was a barn and is a listed building and Is small but ideal for two people and a dog. The village of Brassington is charming with stone built houses full of character and the two pubs both of which serve good food and welcome dogs. The surrounding area is beautiful with lots to see and do but if you come from an area which has few hills as I do the steep hills and hairpin bends come as a bit of a shock. Unfortunately the weather was poor for us but we enjoyed the break and can thoroughly recommend the cottage and the surrounding area.
"The cottage is perfect for a couple and our dogs were made to feel more than welcome."
Perfect setting and location. Beautiful village and everyone so friendly. We had a wonderful relaxing week and will look forward to visiting again
"Beautiful little cottage, well equipped and in a great location to explore the Peak District."
Enjoying a glass of wine, taking in the view from the bedroom window, completed our days. Would love to return sometime.
"This was a lovely cosy cottage, very clean."
There were 2 pubs a few minutes up the road, both of which do food. Carsington Water, not far away. The owner left us milk in the fridge & 4 lovely biscuits, which was a lovely gesture. Definitely recommend
"We had a lovely relaxing holiday, the owners of the cottage where very friendly and helpful."
Pail End was an ideal cottage for a couple, I would highly recommend it. especially with to very nice pubs within two minutes walk.
"This cottage really is a little gem and kept to the highest standards."
The location is idyllic, including the view from the bedroom window, and the owner Richard was both knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions of where to visit. If there was a slight criticism it would be the mattress wasn't that comfortable but we still managed a good night's sleep. I would recommend both this cottage and the area as a superb place for a break (btw food at the Old Gate pub is good but expensive)
"We had a lovely stay here."
Owners were very welcoming and helpful. Very quiet and relaxing location with a few pubs close by. We went to the Miners Arms and had a yummy meal. Carsington Waters close by is a must visit. Cottage was extremely clean and cosy!
"Very nice cottage in lovely location."
"Pail End is a lovely clean cottage and ideally situated especially for the two pubs which both do meals and are dog friendly."
"Faboulous little cottage tucked away in a lovely village, with Matlock Bath or Ashbourne a short drive away."
Beautiful walks surround you. The cottage was exceptionally clean and well presented perfect for two and a dog. Bed was really comfy and the views are stunning, really enjoyed my morning cup of tea sat watching the world go by. Owners live next door, very welcoming and always at hand if ever needed. Two excellent pubs in walking distance, locals are so friendly and inviting. Highly recommend.
"It is in an excellent location, quiet village with some amazing pubs."
The cottage itself is very charming and has all the essentials. It is very clean and right at the heart of the village. The only thing I could suggest as an improvement is perhaps a bigger television as the current one is way too small, especially on winter nights if you want to watch movies and the sofa can just about fit two people.
"THIS LITTLE GEM OF A COTTAGE WAS JUST SUPERB."
SHHHH DONT LET EVERYONE KNOW OTHERWISE IT WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE NEXT YEAR WHEN WE HOPE TO RETURN.
"Beautiful cottage in a stunning location."
Lovely hosts. We spoke to them as we arrived and as we left, they gave us our space while on our holiday.
"Just right for two people and doggies."
Owners very helpful. Would go back. Nice scenery.
"Nothing at all it did what it said on the tin."
"Well described property."
very comfortable and clean.
"The piece and quiet, the views and the extra little touches of milk and biscuits left for our arrival."
"Excellence location & spotlessly clean cottage."
"The Cottage was perfect and the location amazing for walks with our dogs."
Thank you for a great weekend!
"We had a very restful holiday in a lovely cottage, very helpful owners ."
Pleasant village, pubs with good food and dog friendly. Lovely area to visit for scenery and walking.
Lovely local pub with excellent food & quiz night with friendly locals
"Lovely cottage with everything for a perfect holiday for two with a couple of pubs in walking distance."
"Very helpful owner if required, but left alone if not required."
whole break dog friendly ,even local pub [gate inn excellent food ] would definitely book again
"Lovely well equipped cottage, cosy on arrival and all weekend despite the weather!"
Easy access to loads of great walks/runs/cave explorations, thanks for a lovely break
"The hosts were excellent and the cottage was faultless."
"A private, quiet, relaxing, get away from it all."
The owners "left us to it " but helped straight away as soon as we needed them. The village is unspoilt and traditional. It was peaceful away from the crowds of Bakewell etc, (15mins). Small, but very well desighned and equipped. I love that they don't charge for dogs at all, and we had two. I think it is a rip off in this day and age when some places claim to be dog friendly but charge up to £20 per week per dog. The only down side was we couldn't work out how to turn the electric fire on. We could have asked. Many thanks, would love to book again next year! MRS G Walker
