  • "Hillcrest House is in an excellent position for walkers and has beautiful views."

    It is spacious with comfortable seating for all, including the dining area and the bedrooms. Although comfortable the decor is seriously in need of attention. We very much appreciated the lovely welcome pack, which we enjoyed sharing.

  • "We had a great week at Hillcrest house."

    There were some issues with cleanliness at the property which we have fed back to the owners. Hopefully they will be put this right for their next guests. It in no way spoilt our stay, The house gave us plenty of space. The bedrooms are really big and comfortable.

  • "Great house with superb views and location."

    Need to take a little care walking from the house as it is on a busy blind top with no paths for 50 m. I mile walk over the fields to the famous stepping stones. Kitchen is 'industrial' which is very practical but takes a little getting used to There are no laundry facilities

  • "A superb location a stepping stone from Dovedale."

    Comfortable, great views. A big property but more in depth cleaning. Not sure what is going on with bin collection. Full when we got there and not emptied. Had to go to tip. Plenty of space, in lounge, dining room.

  • "We had a great week at Hillcrest House and it is well placed for visiting the Peak District main attractions especially Dovedale, which is nearby and can be walked to from the house."

    The property is very well equipped with plenty of crockery, cutlery and pots and pans. The beds were very comfortable and the duvets and bedding, from the company Soak and Sleep, were really good quality. The towels were also soft, white and fluffy. All the shower rooms and bedrooms were clean but some areas of the house could do with a freshen up. The views from the house are lovely , especially from the bedroom looking out over to Thorpe Cloud. The owners were super helpful and I feel Hillcrest House is a work in progress with lots more to be added to it by the relatively new owners.

  • "We enjoyed our week at Hillcrest, it is a spacious property in a great location and the layout suited 2 families very well."

    We were disappointed with the cleanliness of the property, eg dirty tissues and dust under beds, hair clogging up shower trays and dirty items in the kitchen. There was no gas for the gas BBQ as advertised (the bottle was empty). Also, the garden shown in the photo on the listing is actually the garden of the neighbouring property, so although there is an adjacent field to walk the dog, there is not really a secure garden for children to play in. It could be a fabulous property with a bit of money spent on it.

The property

Enjoy the countryside on your doorstep when staying at Hill Crest House, nestled in between rolling hills and in view of the limestone hill Thorpe Cloud, this semi-detached cottage lies on the southern edge of the Peak District in Thorpe.

A fantastic choice to host your family get-together, everyone will enjoy the spacious rooms as well as en-suite shower rooms in nearly all the bedrooms.

After a day of walking around the local peaks, come back to the woodburning stove in one corner of the sitting area and put your feet up in front of the fire, with plenty of sofas and armchairs arranged to accommodate the whole party.

Put a family favourite film on, if everyone can agree on one, while a few of the group head into the kitchen to cook up a classic dish with the large range cooker.

When it's time to serve, send the word to gather around the dining table and enjoy some good quality time with your loved ones, while planning where your holiday will take you in the coming days.

The ground floor is home to one of the six bedrooms, this one being a family room with a super-king-size and a sofa bed, meaning it's suitable for three people or two with their own private sitting area.

All the windows look out to gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside, and heading upstairs will take you to another three bedrooms on the first floor, two super-king-size and one king-size, all with an en-suite shower rooms attached.

The bedrooms showcase a pretty décor and excellent storage for your personal items, with the added benefit of a TV in each room as well.

Heading up another set of stairs to the second-floor brings you to the final two bedrooms; a king-size with en-suite shower room, and a twin room which is served by the shower room across the corridor.

On a summers day you can head out to the garden, where there is plenty of room to spread out and enjoy some alfresco dining with a cold drink while the kids run around.

Discover walking routes accessible right from your doorstep, with popular walking haunts including Thorpe Cloud, Dovedale Stepping Stones and the water meadows of the River Dove.

Over in the larger town of Ashbourne you can find a wide range of restaurants, cafes, and family friendly pubs, as well as shopping and historic buildings.

An exciting day out for everyone is just under 10 miles away at Alton Towers, one of the world's leading theme parks.

Lying at the southern end of the Peak District, Ashbourne is a perfect example of an English market town - market place with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In its heyday in the 18th century, the town was a fashionable social centre and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters - but don’t expect a bargain! For those who prefer more outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by. Alton Towers is just 20 minutes away.
