"We really enjoyed our visit to The Other Place, Found it very handy for visiting the area around Holmfirth."
If you don’t want to drive into Holmfirth, there’s a bus stop directly outside. We wanted for nothing the owners left us provided for very well.

"A cosy and comfortable cottage, close to good walks on moors and local reservoirs."
Easy walking distances to good pubs and places to eat. Nothing not too like would definitely stay at The Other Place again.

"A lovely comfortable home from home."
The owners had thought of everything. Lovely location and cosy - thank you, just what we needed

"Truly wonderful."
Everything you need for relaxing stay in a wonderful part of the world. The owner is attentive enough to ensure you have the information you need but then leaves you to it. The cottage itself was clean, well maintained, well equipped, warm and cosy. I also found it quirky and fun. I particularly liked the reading room on the top floor. There is a television but we barely used it as watching the logs gently burn down in the wood burner was a much better way to spend the evening. This is the best cottage we have stayed in. I hope to visit again. I can't recommend it enough.

The property
Settled at the heart of the quaint West Yorkshire village of Holmbridge, at the beginning of the infamous climb up Holme Moss, lies this charming, two-bedroom holiday home, The Other Place.
The cottage was a mill workers home with an annexed blacksmiths, Now converted into a lovely home from home and library, welcoming families of four and their two well-behaved dogs for a relaxing, self-catered escape near the Peak District National Park.
Park up roadside and step up into your lovely new home-from-home, where you'll be greeted by a tastefully-laid out, open-plan living space complete with a fully-equipped kitchen, a dining table with seating for four, and a sitting area featuring a large corner sofa and a centrepiece woodburning stove, the perfect spot to gather with your loved ones to plan the rest of your getaway.
In warmer months, be sure to take a glass of your favourite tipple out onto the patio where you can sit back and relax as you soak in views of the not-so-distant rolling hillside.
When sleep finally calls, head upstairs to refresh with a rejuvenating shower or lazy soak before retiring to the double or twin bedroom.
The whole of the top floor is a bright sunny library which was once the blacksmiths; it's a perfect space for settling down with a book in the evening.
When you're ready the next day, head out to explore what your local area has in store.
There are lovely dog-friendly gastro pubs within a short walking distance of the property; downhill is the Pickled Pheasant and uphill in the village of Holme is The Fleece Inn - both do great food, especially Sunday lunches.
Holmbridge Cricket club, and St David's Church are also just a few yards down at the bottom of the hill.
On the hillside opposite, you'll see from the cottage, there's the vineyard!
Sheveling Wine Estates do wine tasting tours, afternoon tea, lunches and dinner.
Less than two miles away is the town of Holmfirth, made famous by the long running TV programme 'Last of the Summer Wine' and by the Grand Depart of the Tour de France in 2014.
The cottage is right on the route of the race!
Holmfirth has lovely shops, bars and restaurants and plenty of festivals.
Your visit to the region would be incomplete without seeing what the Peak District National Park has to offer.
Make your next trip to West Yorkshire unforgettable by booking The Other Place.

About the location
HOLMBRIDGE
Holmfirth 1 mile, Huddersfield 8 miles.
The small village of Holmbridge is situated just 1 mile from the traditional Pennine market town of Holmfirth, within the beautiful Holme Valley. The village has two pubs, a cricket club, a convenience store, a church and its own vineyard which offers tours, tasting and great food. In 2014 the Tour de France passed through the village and the challenging climb of Holme Moss is nearby. Close by, the town of Holmfirth has old stone cottages, winding streets, parks, shops, bars, restaurants and the infamous music venue, The Picturedrome. The Holme Valley hosts a number of festivals throughout the year including the now famous Festival of Folk (May), The Arts Festival (June) Food and Drink festival (September) and a great Music Festival (October). These main festivals run alongside and with other smaller festivals and weekends, such as the Film Festival, The Macmillan Art Exhibition, the Christmas markets, The Scarecrow Festival and, of course, the big cycle race ‘Le Tour De Yorkshire’, this is a wonderfully cultural place to visit. The town was made famous as the setting for the long-running comedy series Last of the Summer Wine. The nearby Colne Valley is home to fictional Skelthwaite from the Where the Heart Is series and, within reach, is the wonderful Peak District National Park – the setting for many picturesque and breathtaking scenic views. The town of Huddersfield and the bright lights of Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield are all within a short drive, making this an ideal base for exploring this exciting and exquisite area of Yorkshire.
