Very clean. Everything we needed was there, including a welcome basket full of goodies. I have allergies to cleaning products and the owner was very considerate to help me have a lovely stay. The location is excellent, very close to the town centre and lots of things to see. We would highly recommend this cottage.

  • "Despite miserable rainy weather we had the best time at 1 Oakleys in Holmfirth."

The cottage was a real home from home, beautifully decorated with a cosy living room and super comfy bedrooms. Cathy, the owner, left us a lovely welcome pack with everything we might need, from milk and bread to wine, treats and a magazine. We had logs for the fire, toiletries in the bathroom, and there were lovely autumn pumpkins, table decorations and garlands dotted around which all added to the welcoming homely feel. We didn’t get to use the garden, but I bet it’s a great place to sit in the summer with a glass of wine. There are lots of lovely shops, cafes and bars in the village itself, and Cathy left a handy book with some great suggestions of places to visit. I will definitely be recommending the cottage - and our wonderful host - to all of my friends.

The cottage itself was perfect, immaculately presented with all amenities provided for in the most efficient manner. It has a beautiful garden from where we enjoyed lovely views across the valley. The garden is lovely though the weather meant we didn't sit out much! We lit the log burner a couple of times and it was lovely and warm. We loved the Farmers Arms and Compos, both close by. Lovely cafes and restaurants in town. The Last Of The Summer bus tour is very good. A great base for exploring the local area with walks from the door and further afield. The owner has added many items to make the cottage very homely. There was a welcome pack on arrival which was appreciated. My wife and I had a very comfortable , quiet and relaxed break. Unfortunately the nearest pub and fish restaurant mentioned in the cottage details are both closed, one has ceased trading and the other is being refurbished.

Thank you for your feedback, we are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. We have checked the pub situation and can confirm that it's currently being renovated so we do expect this to re-open. One of the fish restaurants has unfortunately closed. Apologies these weren't available during your booking. There is still a fantastic fish and chip shop one 2 minutes away. We hope you were able to give it a try! Kind regards Property Owner

We used the garden every late afternoon & evening after returning from walks and exploring, nicely landscaped and lovely views across the valley. Hubby even pottered about doing some dead heading and watering. We appreciated the welcome pack as we were later arriving due to traffic jams en route. About the location

HOLMFIRTH

Peak District National Park 3 miles; Meltham 4 miles

The old traditional Pennine town of Holmfirth is situated in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines. Made famous by The Last of The Summer Wine TV series, there is more to Holmfirth than Compo and Nora Battye’s stockings! The ‘Picturedrome’, the North of England’s finest live music venue attracts many famous bands and is located right in the centre of the town. The pelotons from the Tour de France 2014 and the Tour de Yorkshire have both been through this quaint Holme Valley town en route to the iconic 524 metre Holme Moss climb two miles away. It is in these hills where cycling’s triple Olympic Medalist Ed Clancy grew up. Holmfirth also has a good public swimming pool and fitness centre, parks and some super shops and restaurants. The people here are friendly, the streets are quaint and the scenery is breathtaking. The Peak District National Park with its moors, dales, forests, lakes and reservoirs is also easily accessible. The Upper Derwent Valley, home to the spectacular Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, and where the famous 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron practiced the audacious bombing raid on the Ruhr valley in 1943, is only a short scenic drive away. Slightly further is Chatsworth, the stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and situated close to the market town of Bakewell, the home of Bakewell Puddings. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The National Coal Mining Museum, Wentworth Castle, and the Hepworth Gallery are also within short drives away and well worth a visit. For a spot of culture, Holmfirth has annual festivals with many more attractions that bring visitors back for more; such as the Folk, Arts, and Food & Drink Festivals. Also not to be missed, is Holmfirth Vineyard and Restaurant, where you can book wine tasting tours and enjoy a lovely meal in the restaurant.
