  • "This was a splendid property in which 4 old school friends (women of a 'certain' age), thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night break."

It was comfortable, spacious, spotlessly clean and provided almost everything one might need, including some 'sweet treats'. We had only 2 quibbles; there seemed to be no instructions for the Induction hob on the cooker - we found them 'online' and there was no encouragement or facilities for recycling. We found some, outside. Otherwise, excellent. Thank you. Sally Carr

The only thing this year there was no placemats, ( if there was we could not find them) so when eating on the glass top table had to be so careful, this wasn’t a problem to us but would of thought the owners would want to protect the table.

Only issue was the Wi-Fi which wasn’t strong enough for the size of the apartment. We very were disappointed to note that the property was being substantially discounted the closer we got to our arrival date. This is not something we are comfortable with especially as we were forced to pay for extra nights that we were unable to use.

It was really well equipped and spacious with good quality furniture. Lovely welcome with the bread/jam/milk etc, unexpected but a lovely touch. We would have preferred a later check out, 10am is a little too early for us! A very minor improvement would be that the fridge needs some attention having no where to put your milk and other items in the door wasn’t great but that said it was perfectly workable.

As always in Buxton parking is not easy but the owner provided detailed and accurate information about options. We did have difficulties with internet connection in the two bedrooms furthest away from the router - perhaps a signal booster would be a solution? The lift was a welcome aid especially on arrival and departure. The owner was easily accessible and dealt with issues quickly and efficiently. We enjoyed our stay there. Helen Stoianov

  • "We were disappointed that the lift for the apartments wasn't working as some of our party have mobility problems."

From reviews it hadn't been working since December but we weren't informed about this until the day before our stay. We're still waiting to hear about compensation for this. The Appartment was very spacious, clean and the beds were very comfortable. The location is great for a stay in Buxton. We felt there was some basic equipment missing as there was no coffee maker or cafetière, no egg cups and a limited selection of glasses.

Thank you for your feedback. We do take all Customer comments very seriously. I do understand the impact of the lift not working for Customers. When this stopped working, we contacted the engineering company who are paid to maintain and fix the lift. They were unable to fix the lift straight away and this is not something that we can do ourselves as its a specialized piece of equipment. We wanted to do the right thing and contact Customers that may have been impacted as soon as possible and there was the option to cancel and obtain a refund if requested. Sykes will be in touch with you directly regarding this. Once again, thanks for your comments. They are greatly appreciated however we did all we could to fix the lift as fast and safely as possible. • "Hi. Property was spacious but there were a couple of issues that I was unable to address: 1) there was no contact point given in case Of a problem, which there were."

    2) the lift was out of order- we had two prams to carry up and down the stairs. 3) the dryer didn’t work 4) when you opened the dishwasher the kickboard fell down 5) there was no mop or broom provided to help keep the kitchen clean 6) the sauce pans were no longer non stick and a lot of the kitchen equipment was very worn. For the current price and condition I doubt I’d recommend a stay here to anyone.

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry that the lift is currently out of action, as I called and advised you before your arrival. The lift company are currently waiting for a new part and we hope that the lift will be fixed as soon as possible. It is a shame that you did not contact us regarding any other issues during your stay, as we would have been able to assist you, as we do pride ourselves on providing every guest with a great holiday experience. • "We had a good stay at 11 Eagle Parade, a wet week in August, so we spent quite a lot of time in the flat!"

It's huge and well-appointed, the kitchen has everything you need, including a washing machine and dryer. We used the board games, played several games of Monopoly while the gales raged outside... The beds were super comfortable, and there was lashings of hot water in the showers and baths. The location is brilliant for wandering around Buxton, near the museum and opera house and park, and lots of restaurants and take-aways. Sainsburys is next door, so we did a lot of self-catering. Scriveners bookshop is a two-minute walk away, with five floors of wonderful second-hand books. Buxton is a good location for exploring the rest of the Peak District too, and we made it out to Whaley Bridge, Lyme House, Chatsworth (unbelievably impressive house and gardens), Bakewell, visited lots of terrifyingly claustrophobic caves, and even drove in to Manchester for an Old Trafford stadium tour (about an hour away). So, we had a great holiday. A few minor niggles. The car parking is extremely tedious! You can park at the weekend and evenings, but not during the day, so on wet days when we wanted to stay home, we had to move cars into nearby car parks and pay £3.70 for 24 hour parking. It doesn't sound that bad, but it would have been nice to have a lie-in sometimes instead of putting on coats and going out in the rain! Friday nights and Saturday nights there are loud nightclubs nearby, and karaoke went on until 2am, so if you're a light sleeper, that might be a problem. This might not be every week, so worth checking. And in 11 Eagle Parade, the sofas don't face the tv! So if you want to watch something, you end up with a crick in the neck from sitting with your head turned for too long! The sofas are huge, comfortable beasts, but impossible to move them into a better position. Overall, a good place at a reasonable price, and if you get great weather and want to go out and about all day, the parking won't be a problem.

In fact, we kept getting lost. When we first arrived we just wandered round with our mouths hanging open. It certainly has the Wow factor. Not only is the apartment very roomy, it also has beautiful oak furniture and lovely artwork on the walls. The armchairs are also gorgeous, and each one is different, a work of art in itself. We had everything we needed in the kitchen and I'm glad we had planned to eat in most nights, so we were able to make the most of that lovely room.

Parking is £3.70 per 24hrs but didn't find a problem getting up or finding a space, but remember not to leave cars in public car park the night before the markets as they set up very early. Very nice apartment in the old part of Buxton, ideal to explore the town but remember it is at the top of a hill. Great surrounding area to explore with lovely scenery all around the town. ideal for a large group with elderly/wheelchair users as the lift was good and all on one level makes access to all rooms easily, the ramp could do with some attention to get into the building. It felt like more of an apartment than a flat as all the rooms were huge and beautifully-furnished. The coloured-lights on the bathroom mirrors were an extra special surprise and source of much excitement :-D. Only negatives were that the lounge wasn't as cosy as we thought due to the sofas not being very comfy (perhaps a personal preference), but the lounge didn't invite you to come back and relax after a day walking in the Peak District. Also, we weren't sure if we needed to strip the beds/where to leave towels and we couldn't find anywhere for the recycling. About the location

BUXTON

Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
