Theres also a couple of lovely walks you can do without having to drive (like solomons temple) and the walk to thors cave is well worth driving to.

  • "Spa House is a beautiful place."

It far exceeded everyones expectations. We were a party of 7 adults, 2 teenagers, 2 dogs and a 6month old. We thought we might be tripping over one another but the house is just so big we didn't feel cramped at all. The cinema room in the basement was a big hit with the teens playing games most of the time, the lounge area easily accomodated us and the kitchen was nice and a decent size. All the rooms were lovely and the bathrooms amazing. Everywhere was so clean and tidy. The location of the house is perfectly situated. A few steps away and you are at the gardens and the Pavilion. A 5 minute walk and you are in the lower part of Buxton and most of the shops. A 2 minute walk out of the back door and you are in the upper part of Buxton where you can find lenty of places to eat and drink which are dog friendly. I would recommend this property and i hope we will be able to go back soon.

My only criticism is on the accuracy of the listing which describes the bedrooms as spacious or similar. Most were fine, but two of the rooms with double beds were cramped.

  • "Everything about this house was good."

It is very close to the centre of Buxton yet on a quiet street; park, shops, opera house are all close by. There was ample space for 10 of us, and would have been if all 12 had come. Bed linen, fluffy towels, linen, crockery, pots and pans, etc are all good quality; this is quite the best equipped house we have stayed in. We had one of the wettest holidays ever and the younger members of the family spent a lot of time in the games room. What a blessing to have living space without a TV! There was room for the rest of us to relax and enjoy many conversations, and the solid old house prevented sound travelling from one room to another. When the rain eased a little it was easy to go out for short expeditions to nearby attractions. The stone floor was not harmed by the feet that tramped in and out, and the washer and drier coped with the muddy clothes that resulted from Go Ape, and similar activities.

00 on the Thursday. On checking your paperwork, we saw that it was just a 6 day let but perhaps you could have highlighted this unusual arrangement. We managed to change our plans, packed quickly and left on the Thursday morning. House generally was excellent, with furniture, decor and appliances to a high standard. Only problem was the rather small and slightly awkward kitchen - for a house of that size.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you had to change your plans and understand you thought your booking was for 7 nights but had made the booking on our website for 6 nights. Thank you for your cooperation in making alternative arrangements. Property Owner

There was plenty of room for the children to play indoors and they loved the basement entertainment room. There were plenty of bathrooms so there were never any queues in the morning! The location couldn't be bettered. The pavilion gardens with marvellous children's playground was literally just across the road. Both of the shopping areas were within easy walking distance and there was plenty of choice of bars, restaurants and takeaways. There were plenty of walks, runs and bike trails directly from the house which meant that we only had to take the cars out on three days. The owners were very helpful when I contacted them about earlier access on the day of arrival. Also, when one of the external door locks broke they were there within 30 minutes to repair it. On the day of departure we were a little behind schedule but the owners weren't bothered at all and didn't try to hurry us.

About the location

Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
