As the cottages are around half a mile off the road it is very quiet and lots of walks from the property. Julie the owner is very friendly and baked us a lovely cake for our arrival.

The property was well equipped and peaceful. The walks in the area were beautiful and if you wanted to you could walk straight from the footpaths leading from the grounds. Our dog loved his walking holiday and so did we. Would come back again .

A charming, well appointed gem with caring owners who strive and succeed in going the extra mile without being intrusive. The rural setting is remote, peaceful and stunning. We loved it as did our two golden retrievers.

I had my 2 dogs with me and the area around the cottage were brilliant for dog walking. The owner lives on site and that is helpful too. I did mention to the owner that a couple of road signs would be a help in finding the farm, we had to ask in Ilam.

Incredible views including Dovedale within a few steps in adjoining fields. Hosts are very professional including taking all pandemic precautions seriously but remain caring, friendly and shared interesting local knowledge which contributed greatly to our stay for a week. Also recommend Slade House, same location and high quality accommodation but substantially bigger.

Thoughtful arrival goodies, milk, prosseco and especially the lovely homemade Victoria Sponge Cake. Very well equipped and had everything we needed, dish cloths, tea towels, washing up liquid, tea, coffee, dishwasher tablets, toilet roll, towels, soap and hand sanitizer. Very quiet and peaceful location. Brilliant for dog walks on the door steps. We enjoyed a very relaxing holiday and would stay here again.

  • "We were delighted with the cottage and communication with the owners was clear, timely and very helpful."

However, an almost total lack of communication with Sykes has been hugely disappointing. I understand Covid-19 placed immeasurable pressures on operations, but I received no response to my emails requesting possible date change, accommodation change or cancellation. An automated response requested patience and understanding, which I gave, only to find the full balance was debited from my account without discussion. I was unable to get through via telephone (despite waiting for up to 50 minutes). Shortly before our departure, I finally managed to speak to a representative, to discover that emails regarding our booking had been sent to the wrong email address - human error on behalf of Sykes. I believe someone may have tried to get in touch as I received a voicemail three days before our departure - no message or apology, just a request to call back - which I tried but after 10 minutes wait, I gave up. A simple acknowledgement and apology that service provided was below expectations would have gone a long way. At no time has Sykes showed any interest in the fact that I requested a change to the booking. Dismal service.

A welcoming bottle of Prosecco and milk, along with some chocolate brownies. The woodstove was lovely in the evening, with a good supply of logs available. Location was perfect for dog walking, and the views spectacular. Owner checked on us on the first evening, but then we had the place to ourselves.

  • "Comfy, cosy cottage which was always warm on arrival back from our winter walks."

Ideal for dogs with tiled warm kitchen for them to get dry and have a sleep before coming upstairs to the very spacious living room. The bath was massive and hot water in abundance. Quiet and fairly remote with a long 0.5m country bumpy driveway...a real getaway with stunning sunrises.

  • "We had a most enjoyable holiday in spite of the weather."

The cottage was remote, with beautiful countryside and walks, which is what we wanted. The living accommodation was excellent with lovely soft beds and pillows, In fact we couldn't fault it in any way. We were greeted with a lovely vase of flowers, cake, milk and a bottle of wine. I would recommend this farm cottage and location if you are looking for somewhere comfortable and quiet, but sadly cannot guarantee the weather.

  • "Very friendly owners, informative about local sights and birdlife."

Lovely to have brownies, prosecco and milk left for our arrival, as well as fresh flowers. Lovely area and walks, and some good pubs - try the Jervis Arms at Onecote. The drive to the cottage does take you off the beaten track, and the single track roads can be a pain if you meet anything, although luckily the passing places are reasonably frequent. Cottage itself is very pleasant and comfortable with lovely quiet space outside.
