“Lovely cottage in a beautiful village.”

Cottage has everything you need and more. Double bed was so comfy and the owners have definitely splashed out on luxury bedding / towels. Log burner was brilliant at night. Washing machine was good as it was quite muddy in some parts of our walks. Owner were to hand if there were any problems. Cottage was very clean and kitchen had everything you needed and more. Lovely cake and milk was left when we arrived, nice greeting. Managed to park outside. Loads of places to eat out or have a drink ...

“Just perfect”

Came here for a 4 night stay by train, the location is that perfect for walking, plenty of pubs, cafes and shops for essentials we just didn’t need the car. We took an easy walk to the Trekk Cliff Cavern, bus to Hathersage for a lovely 6 mile circular walk, bus to Bakewell for an afternoon and walking around the Castleton area. I cannot recommend this cosy, spotlessly clean little cottage highly enough, well deserving of 5 stars

“Exceptional cottage”

We enjoyed our recent stay in cherry tree cottage ,we found the cottage to be in the perfect place so you do not have to use your car to explore castleton and the surrounding area , for us castleton is our favourite part of the peak district ,good walks in every direction,fantastic views,great pubs serving excellent food & beers. Cherry tree cottage is also excellent we could not find one fault there ,exceptionally clean,its been restored with a lot of thought and attention to detail owners leaving in lots of little reminders of the cottages history ,very comfortable,it has everything you need for a perfect holiday .would like to thank the owners for cake,milk etc ,it was very much appreciated. Would not hesitate to book again "if we are lucky enough to get in".

“Cherry Tree Cottage itself exceeded our expectations.”

We have stayed at many cottages throughout the country and this has been the best so far! Located at the heart of the lovely little village of Castleton with Peveril Castleton as a dramatic backdrop. It really is the perfect location for a holiday with all local amenities a very short stroll away. We came to The Peak District to walk and enjoy the beautiful countryside. Even though the weather was fairly inclement (50+ mph winds and driving rain) this could detract from the wonderful short break that we experienced in Castleton.

“Still perfect!”

We returned for a weeks stay after our first visit in 2017. Cherry Tree Cottage is still as beautiful and immaculate. It’s perfectly situated in the village, immaculate, very clean and everything is high quality. No corners have been cut and that is obvious. We visiting the Cairngorms next year, Snowdonia the year after that, then will be back to Cherry Tree. It’s the standard we judge other holiday rentals by.

Cottage was so clean and welcoming on arrival, all decorated beautifully and with everything you need within in it for a break away in Derbyshire. Plenty of cooking utensils if you did wish to eat in but also in walking distance into Castleton with plenty of eateries. The beds were so comfy it was hard to get up of a morning! But after a hard days walking it was lovely to come back to a warm and homely cottage. Instructions from the owners were clear and well described and contact details sent over prior to arrival. Would definitely recommend and will be back to stay once we find a break in the cottage bookings :) !

The cottage is beautifully clean and well equipped for a family holiday. The twin room is a very generous size so the children don’t feel they are squished in together. The kitchen is modern and has everything you could need. The fact the owners leave items such as a cake to welcome you, milk and other essentials for a self catering holiday is so helpful and saves having to bring “stuff” with you. Castleon itself is a great base to explore the Peak District with many walks starting and ending there and there are several great places to eat and have a pint at the end of a long walk.

The owners have equipped the cottage with everything even supplying cling film and tin foil for example and the bedding and towels are high quality. The position of the cottage is perfect, Everything in the village is a 5 min walk away. If you are staying intending to go for some walks in area, numerous trails you will find online go right by the front door. Buxton is 15mins drive, Chatsworth 30mins and Trafford Centre 50mins so whatever your reason for visiting the area, you'll be hard pushed to beat this place. We don't normally return to the same place as there are so many places to visit, but we're are definitely returning to the cottage in a couple of years.

“Perfect break”

Just returned from a three night break at this beautiful cottage and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. It is really comfortable and spotlessly clean. The location is ideal, right in the centre close to the local pubs and restaurants and easy accessible for walking in and around Castleton. The owners have paid every attention to detail, tastefully furnished with everything you would need from a fully equipped kitchen to music and board games. The log burner was a treat and so relaxing. Highly recommend and will return when we can.

Cherry tree cottage offers superb modern conveniences with a beautiful location and all the traditional features . The accommodation is truly 5 star very tastefully restored and decorated and above all the attention to detail is perfect . The village itself is stunning and we had the benefit of the Christmas lights and the warm friendly atmosphere of the pups and the fantastic food served in them all ,very difficult to rate them as the three we had a meal in were brilliant . Mark and Christine have made the cottage a place to relax and enjoy a break for all ages we are planning a return visit next year ,We would highly recommend this fantastic holiday cottage we guarantee you will not be disappointed .

“picturesque perfection - perfect mini break”

My partner and I have just had a 3 night stay in the cherry tree cottage and we're both already planning a return trip!! The cottage was perfect, very cosy, very modern but still with traditional features :) The village of Castleton itself has stunning walks, castle, church and plenty of pubs!! We tried them all and had a fun time sampling local drinks and food! We would highly recommend this lovely little cottage, you wont be disappointed!! xx

“Wonderfully considerate hosts”

Cherry Tree Cottage offers the best of both worlds - a picture book traditional cottage in a beautiful location but lovingly updated and with all the modern conveniences you could possibly want. It is tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. Christine and Mark, the owners, provided immaculate customer care from the time of booking through to the end of our stay. For example we asked whether a summer weight duvet was available - and shortly after a summer weight duvet appeared. This is a new venture for Christine and Mark and we were amongst the first few guests to stay, but it's clear this will be a success.

The location was perfect as the cottage is sat in the centre of the village so is surrounded by beautiful scenery, great pubs and a small selection of shops.

The property

A beautiful semi-detached cottage overlooked by the castle in the heart of Castleton in the Peak District National Park.

Walk through the front door and discover wonderful accommodation with a lovely living space which shows off open stonework, beams and a warming woodburning stove.

Take a book and settle in the window seat to sit and enjoy watching the world go by or marvel at the castle above and imagine the history of it!

A well-equipped kitchen is just off the sitting room and the cottage stairs lead directly from the living area and lead to two lovely bedrooms, both boasting ornamental fireplaces.

Outside is a private yard to the rear and a utility room which is the perfect place to dry your outdoor clothes after a day spent discovering the surrounding National Park.

Castleton is just a delight of a village, with a huge array of pubs, cafes, coffee shops and gift shops, making it a lovely place to wander around for an afternoon.

Just outside Castleton are a range of popular tourist attractions with the Blue John Cavern, the Pennine Way and the Ladybower Reservoir all just short drives away.

This charming cottage in Castleton is perfect at any time of the year.

About the location

CASTLETON, PEAK DISTRICT

Hope 1.5 miles; Buxton 10 miles; Bakewell 13 miles.

The outstandingly beautiful Peak District village of Castleton is situated at the top of the Hope Valley, on the doorstep of some great walking country. Steeped in fascinating history, the village boasts the Norman Peverill Castle Keep which is in a commanding position keeping an eye on the village and the National Park. The village is a draw to walkers and all manner of outdoor enthusiasts wanting to follow the paths, conquer the Winnats Pass or have a go at caving. Castleton is world-famous for its visitor caves and the beautiful semi precious stone Blue John which is only found and mined here. Castleton has a fabulous array of interesting little gift shops, some fantastic food pubs and an excellent Visitor Centre with its small museum explaining life in the Hope Valley, plus the Christmas lights and festive activities are very popular with visitors during December. Nearby are the pretty villages of Edale, the start of the Pennine Way, Hope and Hathersage with its seasonal outdoor swimming pool. Enjoy a day out at Alton Towers or visit the impressive Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. Also within easy reach are Buxton, Matlock Bath and Carsington Water, while further afield are the market towns of Ashbourne and Leek.
