"This was a very nice cottage."
One slight criticism and minor. Walls could do with a redecorate. A few marks here and there. Otherwise I thoughly enjoyed my wintery stay in the snow. . The underfloor heating was marvelous and made it all cosy. The dog walk/field was was brilliant for dogs. Overall a lovely stay. Relatives were in primitive 2 and 3 so all had a good time. We will be back possibly late summer into autumn. Thank you Carl Tracey and Ellie.

"A lovely little place, tucked out of the way."
Facilities were good, bath was nice as we are typically shower people. Underfloor heating was nice but there were a few cold spots which caught us off guard. No issues with Internet or tv signal while we were there so we were happy about that although there were plenty of dvd choices if that had happened. Didn't use the outside space as it was the wrong time of year but that didn't bother us. Thank you

"A bijou cosy cottage perfect for a short break in a great area with local walks."
Lovely to have a thoughtful welcome pack of groceries on arrival and a nice note from Ellie who cleaned before our arrival. We did have trouble finding the cottage in the dark but the owner was super helpful on the phone and we got there. Noise from adjoining cottage is quite prominent due to the construction of the properties and a few elements seemed quite odd (height of the shower - I'm only 5'3" but had to kneel to shower) but overall had a great week with this lovely base to return to. Recommend The Church Inn in the village for food and highly recommend the High Peak Book Store (dog-friendly and fab cafe) 3 minutes drive away. Lots of walks locally but access to some areas was tricky as farmers have sealed, locked or tied off gates. Glorious landscapes and some very interesting historic features to explore too.

"This was the second time we had stayed here which I think speaks for itself, once again everything was spot on, this is the ideal little cottage for 2 people and a dog, and the location couldn’t be better, we will definitely return."
-
"Great little cottage, everything you need."
Very clean and well equipped. Underfloor heating very warm. Great location for visiting Buxton and Bakewell. Chatsworth house lovely grounds to walk in, also the walks in the woods.
-
"Lovely house to stay in."
Very comfortable and we had all we needed to have a nice holiday. New electric sofa a big hit after a day on the cycle trail. Bed very comfortable and the jet bath was a refreshing experience. All-in-all a good holiday cottage to stay in and explore the local area either on foot or on bikes using the trails which are all very close by.
Thank you for your comments. the electric sofa recliner is a new experience and happy you enjoyed it. Property Owner

"The cottage was clean, and as described."
The garden was great for the dog, as well as the paddock that was there for us to use when we wanted. The location was ideal and quick to access Buxton and Aldi for shopping. Also the local pub served excellent food, and only a short walk away. The only concern for us was the uncomfortable sofa, which was low and not very supportive. The cottage would benefit from a sitting chair for one as an addition to the low 2 seater sofa. The shower was ok, not ideal for those who can’t get in and out of the bath easily. The shower head was also a lot lower than expected, but we managed ok. We would return if there was a different sofa!! Overall an enjoyable stay visiting the local area.
This cottage has a jet bath which for some may seem quite a tall bath side. The sofa has now been replaced with an electronic recliner two seat sofa. Property Owner

"Had a lovely week at the cottage."
The kitchen is fully equipped and we found the sofa and bed to be very comfortable. The location is quite and a brilliant base for days out to the local sites, walks etc. We would definitely go back and recommend.
Happy to hear the comfort of the sofa and bed were enjoyed. Property Owner
-
"The property was clean but dusty the bath had no hand rail making it difficult to get out ."
The furniture in the living room was not very comfortable.
The jet bath does have a tall bath side and as it is a circular bath this does not have a bath rail. Property Owner

"We were disappointed with the cleanliness of the property splash marks on the ..."
We were disappointed with the cleanliness of the property splash marks on the walls dust on skrting boards, cobwebs, the bath had black damp marks along the edge, the bath sides were lose and edges were dirty, shame as the village and surrounding area are lovely
We are so sorry the cleanliness didn't meet your exacting standards, we are more than happy to respond to any issues on arrival. Please do not hesitate to mention when you arrive. Thank you for your comments we will continue to improve on our standards. Property Owner

"Lovely location for exploring a beautiful area."
The property itself was very disappointing and not up to the standard that we expect from Sykes after many previous stays. It is in need of some investment: plastic chairs and broken table in garden, garden not secure with no side gate for dog, very basic kitchen, uncomfortable sofa, small double bed, tired bathroom with loose loo seat and no decent shower, tatty paintwork etc.
The garden is open from the rear to the front but is secure within its own grounds. We continually look to make all maintenance and improvements throughout the year and will take a closer look to these raised. Thank you. Property Owner

"A lovely cottage."
Everything you could need for a stay in the Dales. Practical flooring fir muddy boots and wet dogs and a great welcome pack. Comfortable bed and a great message to say we could arrive early meant our stay was fantastic.
Happy that you were able to arrive early, wherever possible we are pleased to provide early entry free of charge. Property Owner

"This was our third stay at 1 Primitive Croft so that in itself shows how much we like the place."
We have stayed for 7 days in the past but could only find time for 3 this time but it was perfect for a short break. The cottage is very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The enclosed garden is great for the dog, as is the paddock just up the road. Parking outside for unpacking is perfect, then we can move the car to the large car park at the back where there is plenty of space. We had a very rainy day so welcomed the log burner in the late afternoon, after a visit to the Church Inn up the road, for lunch. Excellent food. We met the owner Tracey on the last day and she was lovely, making sure we had a good stay. Will definitely be coming back.
-
"Lovely cottage which is ideal for a couple."
Very clean and the welcome pack was much appreciated. Cottage is well equipped with kitchen utensils. As we visited with a small dog it would have been nice to have a gate on the side of the cottage to keep her in the back. Only fault we could find is that there were no facilities for re-cycling, all rubbish goes in the same bin
-
"Great place everything you need had a great time"
-
"The shower was a bit of a problem, needed to sit down on the side of the bath to shower as the shower cable fastened into a bracket."
Worried about water escaping around the bath as not properly sealed
The property provides a bath, the addition of a 'head shower' is for use whilst in the bath. We do have other cottages that provide a stand up shower. Property Owner

"Very nice cottage with all home comforts."
Village nice Village Pub very nice food
-
"Lovely little cottage with everything you need."
Very clean and tidy with a very welcome food pack left by the owners. We both feel the 2 seater should be replaced as its quite uncomfortable.
-
"Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely cosy cottage."
Would recommend. We now understand the comments about the settee. The weather was quite wet at times so we probably spent more time in than we would if the weather had been better. Settee not the comfiest especially the left-hand side of it.
-
"Absolutely love this place it’s beautifully kept immaculately clean lovely towels and bedding too great walks locally so no need to drive anywhere ."
The cottage is so warm and cosy too will definitely be returning again soon Thank you for the perfect stay
-
"Had a great weekend in 1 primitive croft."
The welcome pack of biscuits , bread and milk was really appreciated thank you. The heated floor is perfect in the cottage to dry out your walking boots and the dog. The bonus of number 1 is you’ve got the little porch your walk in first which is extremely handy. I purchased fresh eggs next door every day which was amazing. We ate at the local pub just minutes walk up the road (church inn) every evening where they had amazing food. I always read reviews before booking anywhere so I took an inflatable foot stool. There was a small one provided but needed another being 2 of us. Yes the sofa could have been bigger and more comfortably but I didn’t book the cottage to sit down all day, we booked to get a weekend of hiking in and we did just that. The cottage is perfect for 2 and a dog and had all the amenities you needed. I would recommend and stay again .
Great to hear the location and facilities were all that you needed. love the idea of an inflatable foot stool, well done you. The cottage enjoys a large spacious accommodation but the two seater is cosy to snuggle up in. Property Owner
-
"Couldn't ask for more a beautiful place to stay in a lovely area, the cottage was clean and seriously couldn't fault it."
The only down side was we had to leave. Will definitely be returning.
Thats the catch, we hope you will come back to enjoy even more of our cottage and surrounding areas. Thank you Property Owner
-
"We had a fantastic and much need break ."
Couldn't get over the quality and the design 9f the cottage. Everything was perfect with every needed. Perfect design and impeccable Inerior design. Would.definetely return and recommend. The only fault was the bed was a little hard for us. However that was only minor and realise that everyone's mattress choice us different. Our fur baby Crumble loved the cottage and the paddock. Even though she growled at the metal reindeer that was so funny. Again thankyou to the owners for perfecting this cottage. Such welcoming people as well in the village. Sue, Ian & Crumble xx
Happy to hear Crumble was on form and looking to protect you from 'metal guests'. We do find lots of different reactions to the metal stag by difference dogs, all happily engage though. The paddock is there for the sole purpose of comfort for the dogs holiday as well as yours. Lovely to hear you had such a nice time. Property Owner
-
"Beautiful cottage, lovely and clean, nice and warm, everything provided."
Scenery was amazing. Thank you for the great experience of the peak District.
Wonderful that the cottage met your needs and you had such a lovely time. We look forward to seeing you again. Property Owner
-
"Fantastic cottage with superb walks straight from the door."
The local pub has extremely good food with lots of specials. The flagged floor with underfloor heating in the cottage is very efficient, with no need to use the log burner even in November. It was great being supplied with tea, coffee, sugar, bread, milk, baked beans, salt and pepper, liquid soap and washing up liquid. The outside tap was useful for cleaning our dog and walking boots and the underfloor heating soon dried everything including the dog. The only downside was that the heating was a bit too high at 23°C and, although we kept turning it down, it seemed to go back up again! There was a lot of dirt/old dog biscuits under the washer which our dog started scrabbling at straight away so we had to clean underneath it to stop him. Maybe the cleaners had forgotten to clean under it. Apart from that, the cottage was lovely and clean.
Delighted that the dog was as happy you as. Always cautious of guests needs, please do not hesitate to contact us for assistance. Property Owner

"We had a wonderful few days, the cottage was perfect for a break, in a good location for discovering the Peak District & the paddock was so good for walking our dog."
The local pub was very welcoming & served good food. Would definitely recommend a stay here.
Thank you for your comments, lovely to hear the paddock was enjoyed. Property Owner
-
"A lovely cottage had a great time, very comfortable and situated fairly central for peak district walks."
Great local pub (Church Inn) Thanks Carl and Tracey for your hospitality
So happy to hear you enjoyed the property and area. Property Owner

"This was our second time at this property, so that in itself is a good testament to the place."
It is in a perfect location with lots of places within a 30 - 40 minute drive, some a lot closer. The village is lovely with a nice dog friendly pub a short walk up the hill. The food there is lovely. The actual property is really nice, fairly basic facilities but we had everything we needed. Lovely woodburner, which we didn't use once as it turned out to be the hottest week of the year. Garden is perfect for the dog as it is enclosed and it was nice to sit outside for our evening meals (although the garden table has seen better days and definitely needs replacing). Very comfy bed and nice bathroom and jacuzzi bath, although a proper shower would be nice. The paddock for the dog was really useful. We would definitely book again.
Second time around is indeed testimony and happy to hear you would return again. The property enjoys the jet bath and the shower head is an extra head wash facility. Revamp and review of the property is carried out at the end of the year. Property Owner
-
"We enjoyed our week at the Croft."
It is fully equipped, clean and comfortable. The welcome pack on arrival was much appreciated. The location was only 25 minutes or less from Ladybower, Bakewell, Buxton Dovedale, Monsal Trail etc walks for all levels. We ate at the Church Inn a few times and tried our luck at the Monday night quiz and the locals are very friendly and welcomed us in. We will definitely be back and would recommend anyone to stay here.
Thank you for your comments. Happy to hear that you had a very enjoyable stay. Property Owner

"As described , clean & comfortable ."
would visit again .
Glad that met your needs Property Owner

"Lovely cottage."
Everything you need for a wonderful holiday. Spotlessly clean and good information packs. Great additions are the paddocks to be able to walk the dog, he loved it. Some good walks from the house and we would recommend The Church Inn for a nice meal in the village.
The paddock is there for our dog lovers and guests, happy you enjoyed it Property Owner

"Had a lovely time, Beautiful little cottage had everything we needed, easy reach to the Peak District too"
Thank you I appreciate your feedback, so lovely to know you enjoyed yourselves. Property Owner
-
"A comfortable very well equipped cottage in a lovely area especially if you like walking."
For dog owners the meadow is a real bonus with large safe area for dogs to exercise off lead. The only minor fault is that some windows would benefit from a net curtain or blind. Overall an excellent holiday and we will definitely go back to the cottage if return to area.
-
"Very nice stay."
Secluded rear garden and plenty of space. Our little dog enjoyed it too. A small point -We did find that the sofa pushed our heads forward a bit, but this is just a small point. We would have more cottage style furniture in, paint the two internal doors and put the nice pictures in central positions on the walls. A great cottage and lovely village, with great walks! Definitely recommend and return!
-
"Lovely little cottage, perfect for 2 people and a dog!"
very clean and well equipped, had everything we needed and more, especially liked that it had off road parking and a secure enclosed garden and the Wi-Fi was a god send as our phone signal was very bit and miss, ideal location for going out and about, would definitely stay here again.
-
"Lovely little cottage ideal for 2."
Totally secure for our small dog. The meadow is a bonus as that’s also secure. Ideal centre for walking but very quiet. Just one pub / eatery but it’s great. Added bonus of now having Wi-Fi. Music system maybe due an upgrade. Fab picture on TV but limited on channels if you like to watch TV.

Beautiful cottage, very clean well equipped the only fault the back door you have to kick it to open and tv needs updating to smart tv

"No window blinds at kitchen window or door or window or the bathroom so you dare ..."
No window blinds at kitchen window or door or window or the bathroom so you dare not use bathroom with light on also never used barbecue as it was full of fag ends and remains of the last usesers and I'm not cleaning other peoples mess up also loads of mold round bath and bath panel not fixed properly there was a few twigs on arrival for fire as we found it cold also you could only have one bath at night the water was cold after 9pm apart from that is was nice why would anyone want to be seen naked in the bathroom or down stairs at night curtains or blinds a must I'm afraid I see the other houses had curtains the own the other houses or was it because its a one bed for 2 people
-
"Our cottage was ideal, set in a beautiful little village, perfect for exploring the countryside in every direction."
The cottage had everything required for a great holiday, including a useful welcome pack. The jacuzzi bath did not disappoint after a big day on foot or in the saddle. The owner was welcoming and very helpful too. We would certainly recommend this property.
-
"We had an amazing time!"
Cottage was lovely, everything we needed. The use of the meadow was a great addition. Thanks you a lovely break
-
"Lovely cottage with everything you might need."
Can't fault anything at all. Local area is also wonderful
-
"Rear garden of artificial grass and large front area stone chips."
Narrow curved stair to bedroom, no handrail, you either had to crawl up or pull yourself up using the balcony posts, as the last post is loose it would appear that is what many guests have done. Large bedroom, so why put a King Size bed in narrowest part, beware of stubbed toes. Beautiful looking bathroom with a waterjet bath across the length of the outside facing wall with the bathroom window above the bath, you have to stand in the bath to open and shut window. Toilet squeezed in between the sink and stair wall and toilet roll hangs behind you next to cistern. Kitchen, no plug for the sink, no potato peeler to peel veg or a small smooth sharp knife to scrape off the skins. A state of the art electric computerised hob with no instructions on how to use it (very complex), with help of of someone next door managed to eventually boil the veg and even managed to work it myself the next evening, but failed miserably the next night and had to ask the new visitors next door to boil my veg on their normal style of electric hob. The toaster, a qualified electrician would condemn this as it is literally falling apart!! I packed up and left for home after four nights, I did not hoover because I was not sure how you removed it from wall holder.
-
"Lovely cottage, well looked after and had everything I needed."
I would definitely recommend to others and return to the cottage myself!
-
"A very comfortable stay in a beautiful and ideal location for visiting the Peak District."
The cottage whilst on the small side was very practical to live in for a short stay break. Parking at the back of the cottage was appreciated as was the earlier than expected time to gain access to the property. The local Public house was excellent for both food and friendliness.
-
"This was a super little cottage with comfortable king size bed and fabulous jacuzzi bath - great to relax in after a day’s walking."
The local pub was friendly and hospitable and an easy walk from the cottage door. Everything we needed for a short stay. The enclosed back yard was great for our dog to enjoy some fresh air.
-
"The property was lovely, heating on when we got there and a nice little welcome pack to start us off."
The jacuzzi bath was a bonus after a days walking. Ideally located , pub just up the road and not far from major attractions. The owner was nearby if we needed her. The private field for walking your dog was fantastic for us as our dog is not good of the lead. If i had to find anything negative which would be hard to do, would be perhaps a larger settee. Would recommend
-
"We had a lovely stay in Primitive Croft."
There was plenty of space and the kitchen was well equipped. The welcome pack was a nice idea, so we could get the kettle on as soon as we arrived. The cottage was warm most of the day, but it did get chilly at night. Luckily we had bought our fleece blankets with us, so that helped until we managed to buy some wood for the fire. A good location to venture out on walks and visiting the local area. The local pub was very welcoming and the food was excellent.
-
"We had a great few days in this lovely cottage."
The stone floor downstairs was ideal with the dog, Mojo, and he loved the freedom of the meadows. The log fire was very cosy. We really liked the village, especially the church with the golden locust weather vane. Would love to return some day. Thank you.
-
"Lovely little cottage, Perfect for two."
Great village with a super pub in good location just between Buxton and Bakewell. Nice to have welcome package of essentials and lovely touch of some sweeties for Valentine’s Day. We did not take our dog in the end, but would have been difficult to keep her downstairs at night. Had everything we needed. Very cosy. Would recommend.
-
"The cottage was generally lovely."
As with previous comments noted there were no logs for woodburner when we arrived. I would agree with the suggestion a foot stool would add to comfort due to slabbed flooring. The duvet and pillows were of poor quality, however the bath was great.
-
"Lovely home to stay in, super comfortable and lots to do nearby."
The hosts were really helpful and replied very quickly to messages!
-
"Sadly the weather wasn't kind so we didn't venture out too much, however the real fire and underfloor heating kept us warm and cosy in this fabulous cottage."
More importantly our 12 yr old lab felt at home. A well presented holiday cottage with lots of information on what to do & where to go. A decent welcome pack. Very comfy bed, plenty of space and decent hangers for clothes etc. Our only comment (not criticism) is the rather large bath - we much prefer a shower, but that's personal taste. The kitchen was well stocked with pans & utensils for cooking at home. The DVD collection was immense! Great pub at the top of the village. We highly recommend. Tracey & Carl were lovely and available if needed.
-
"Primitive Croft 1 was the perfect cottage for our cosy long weekend away."
Parking at the back of the cottage is great- no need to worry about on street parking. Good sized rooms for the 2 of us and the kitchen had everything we needed. There was a little welcome pack of essentials and the cottage was very welcoming on our arrival. We didn't have a problem with the sofa as some reviews have noted but a foot stool would be a nice touch. We didnt have any logs left for us for the wood burner but we had taken some of our own and purchased some more from B&q- 3bags for £17. The enclosed garden was brilliant for our pup and the use of meadow was fantastic for our pup to safely run around off lead- a great idea! The location is great right between Buxton and Bakewell- plenty of walks on the doorstep too. The one thing that could have been a little better was the cleaning- we found dog hairs in the kitchen on our arrival. We understand this having a pup ourself however it did make us give everywhere a wipe around with antibac before settling down to be on the safe side under the covid circumstances. That being said it didn't impact on us and we really enjoyed our stay. We would definitely recommend the cottages and would stay again. Many thanks.
-
"Lovely little cottage second time we have stayed there."
Just one small thing the cleaning wasn’t up to the standard of our first visit had to dust the headboard and clean the downstairs toilet apart from that we had a great time away. Chelmorton is a lovely village great walks and a great pub for drinks and food
-
"Excellent pub in Chelmorton, church Inn."
Good walks and reasonable close to Buxton for facilities.
-
"Great to have the use of the dog field just along the road!"
Parking is in fact roadside or around the back of the 3 cottages.
-
"Sofa broken which was reported to owner, she was very quick to respond and kept us informed about sorting it out"
-
"Brilliant location."
Excellent base for exploring the peak district. Great for bringing your dog.
-
"Description of shower over bath was misleading as was only suitable for hair washing."
It was too low for any normal use and no shower curtain.
Thank you for your comment on our hand held shower attachment. We try to ensure no description is misleading and believe an en-suite jacuzzi bath with hand-held shower attachment represents the facility well. The bathroom photo also clearly indicates that it is not a full shower. Property Owner
-
"The cottage was great the area is perfect in the fact it's near Buxton, Bakewell, Castleton and Ashbourne."
The meadow that comes with the cottage was brilliant for our dog, though a gate at the side of the cottage would be ideal as he could go straight into the front garden. The cottage had everything we required but as others have mentioned the sofa needs replacing as its lost its structure and without pillows from the bed very uncomfortable. The pub along the road is a must they are welcoming and the food is of a good standard. We loved our time there and would go again. Many thanks Tracey.
-
"The cottage was in a prime location to travel to Buxton and Bakewell and many other places of interest."
It had walks from the doorstep for either the long haul or short haul walkers. The paddock provided to walk our little cockapoo was briliant and the enclosed garden was a plus too. The cottage itself was ideal in all aspects and we would definitely recommend it. We are planning a return trip as there are so many amazing places to visit that we didn't get chance to go to.
-
"Pleasant little cottage, with nice facilities, superbly clean with good parking."
-
"We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage, the standard of hygiene was very high and we were pleased to have the welcome pack."
Chelmorton is a lovely village, very peaceful with plenty of local walks and within east reach of many other walks and places of interest.
-
"We had a lovely holiday, the cottage was warm and welcoming, needed with the rather inclement weather."
The kitchen was well equipped, just missing a few things , a veg peeler , cheese grater and a casserole dish would have been useful. Agree with other guests that the sofa is quite cosy for two , some kind of foot rest would make a difference, nice to cosy up in front of the wood burner, shame we had no wood provided, a trip to the local B&Q soon sorted that out. Bedroom warm and cosy, jacuzzi bath a real treat and a safe enclosed garden for the dog, as well as the meadow for some off leash runs, Ollie loved it. Yes I would recommend a holiday here. Guests must go to the local pub The Church, certain of a warm welcome, food is excellent, large portions and dog friendly. Lovely friendly village, good walking in the area and easy access to Buxton and Bakewell by car.
-
"A very nice cottage in a great location."
Good sized living room/kitchen and bedroom. Nice to have downstairs toilet as well as in bathroom upstairs. The wi-fi worked well, shame there is no phone signal so had to use email to contact owners. A few negatives - there was no barbecue as advertised. The vacuum didn't work (although that wasn't a problem and owner did ask if we wanted it sorting) . There was no starter pack of wood for the wood burner. We sent a message and some arrived the next day but was a bit disappointed as it was a few bits of skirting board and some Formica coated chipboard. Once we had booked and paid we found out there were some restrictions on where the dog could and couldn't go. Pity that is not in the property description as it would affect some peoples decision to book. People in neighbouring cottage thought this too.
-
"Fantastic week away, loved the cottage, pub down the road was great."
Lovely food, very welcoming.. nice walks. Will be booking again next year.
-
"Lovely holiday in The Peaks, cottage clean, good location pub just up the road, nice walks on doorstep."
Good for parking as can park off road. Jacuzzi bath was a bonus after long walks! In the details it said there was use of a barbecue but there wasn’t one, text the owner but no response that was the only negative.
-
"Everything about the cottage was fantastic, the village of Chelmorton was beautiful and the pub at the top of the hill was fantastic food great and staff very helpful, can't wait to go back again."
-
"Lovely cozy cottage, ideal to self isolate , great pub up the road and good walks."
Locals are friendly and helpful as are the owners. Our dog loved the private paddock and the view is fantastic.
-
"We have just returned home after spending five nights at this property."
The location was perfect to enjoy the Peak District. We had quite a bit of snow but the cottage was so warm and cosy that we didn’t mind at all. The owners had thought of everything to make our stay an enjoyable one. The jacuzzi bath was a luxury. We will definitely be returning at a later date. I would highly recommend this property. Also the Church Inn in the village is very good .
-
"Fantastic cosy little cottage!"
Clean & comfortable with a very well equipped kitchen. The only downside was the settee which was a little uncomfortable however we used the cushions & pillows from upstairs which helped! The underfloor heating was a bonus too! As dog owners, having private access to the meadows just a short walk from the cottage was great as dogs can run free off lead and it is enclosed. There's a great pub in the village, the Church Inn, within walking distance and the food there is amazing! Also dog friendly. The cottage is within easy reach of many great walks and surrounding areas and there are many good places to eat. Would definitely recommend and hope to return in the future.
-
"The cottage was gorgeous and we'll equipped but was extremely warm ( even with snow outside)."
There was advice to call the owner with any issues but unfortunately there wasn't a phone signal.
Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you liked the cottage and managed to enjoy the snow! Due to the poor reception in the village, text messaging is stronger. The information booklet in cottage also gives home address of owner just 50yds away. We hope to welcome you back to the cottage in the future Property Owner
-
"Lovely modern cottage in a quiet village, great location for a few days or longer to see the sights of the Peck District."
The cottage had everything you need to enjoy your stay, would definitely recommend it.
-
"Everything we needed to know was explained to us by Tracey the day before we arrived."
The cottage itself was exactly as the photos. Clean, tidy and cosy. Had everything you could need for a weekend away. The only negative was the sofa is very small and not easy for 2 people to relax comfortably on for any period of time. Lovely village with a nice pub which we were able to take our dog to. Food was very good. All in all a lovely weekend away.
-
"The cottage was lovely it had everything you could need with walks on the doorstep."
Bed was very comfortable but only negative was the uncomfortable settee. We resolved this by bringing 2 of the bed pillows down to sit on on it to stop it from sagging so much. Would recommend and would definitely stay again in the future.
-
"The cottage was very clean on arrival apart from paint splashes on down stairs floor which was a shame as flooring was lovely!"
Loved the underfloor heating.Everything was of a very good standard, bed linen was beautiful towels thick and soft. The welcome pack was a nice touch also as the little welcome party. Charlie our dog loved the large area for him to walk and play. We have rented a few Sykes cottages now as feel this was the best one! Nice area with lots to do, thank you we enjoyed our stay.
-
"Lovely modern cottage in a beautiful village setting, would highly recommend for anyone who just wants to get away from it all."
Great paddock to take your dog in, we loved it!!
-
"We found that the comfort of the Cottage was very poor with only a 2 seater settee as the only seating in the lounge."
We found that because of the open plan design that noise echoed around the cottage and cooking smells invaded our sleeping area, because there were no doors cutting off these faults. The lack of a blind/curtain in the bathroom and the kitchen area was rather off putting as we did not know for sure that we were not being observed from outside. The actual blinds in the bedroom were completely useless as they failed to cut out the morning light. When we did look out the kitchen window, the view was cut off with a very high stone wall and we did not realise from the description that we would not have a very good landscape view of the Dales. Notification should have been given that mobile phone signal was very poor and could only be received in the limited opening of the village pub. We will not be returning.
-
"The cottage was beautiful, with very modern features and great ambience and lovely touches, making it a wonderful home from home."
There was a great welcome pack of essentials and in invitation for a small get together the first evening. It was fun and full of useful hints for the holiday. My dog had an enclosed back garden and was chuffed with the underfloor heating, too. I loved the village and the walks around the area were full of England at its best with pasture and meadow, dry stone walls and sheep and cattle grazing. I look forward to coming back to Chelmorton for another holiday :)
-
"The main drawback was no phone signal and no WiFi."
The house was clean and comfortable.it gave the minimum necessary for 2 the toilet seat was repaired by selves and thick dust on bed headboard but that is ultra critiçal. If you enjoy being away from everything and deep into a country village with no local amenities apart from one pub, go for it.
-
"We had a very enjoyable stay, so much to do within 30 mins of destination."
Walkers paradise. Would definately return to this area.

"The cottage is lovely!"
It was built in 2016 and blends the traditional look with modern conveniences and style. The kitchen is well equipped and yet there is room for you to store your own food. The cottage is open plan and whilst it is a one bedroom property, it has plenty of room and a spacious feel. The bed is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on and I am not exaggerating! The garden is laid with astro grass and has no flowers, which I found quite acceptable as it was a nice space for my dog to move about in. Just up the road is a 3 acre meadow that is accessible only for guests of Primitive Croft. It is the perfect place to let your dog safely off lead. The cottage is well placed for exploring the Peak District and I was able to access many enjoyable walks within 20 minutes of driving. Both my dog and I loved our stay. I still have much of the Peak District to explore and when I do I am likely to return to Primitive Croft.

"Limited mobile phone signal"

"A beautiful and built to a very high standard property, however that was what we expected from the photos, inside the cottage could do with a good redecoration, really bad marks on walls especially in the kitchen, and where the bath has leaked in the past the water stain remains on the ceiling, the windows have not been cleaned since the build the sticker marks can still clearly be seen."
The PlayStation can't be used as the controller has no lead, there were none of the usual little bits left by previous visitors which while petty is a nightmare when you can't check in until late and there are no shops near by. So on arriving with groceries and a microwave meal found the microwave wasn't working on fact we unplugged it as the outside was red hot and the food cold. The fridge and freezer was switched off so the frozen food we took had to go in a just switched on freezer. And then we found dog mess in the garden and the BBQ was filthy so we had to try clean and gave up. I do believe we had a fantastic break, but the little things mounting up for us while we don't expect perfection, we do like what's promised in the pictures. We realise the owners were just up the street from us but on arrival when bringing the dog mess, the fridges being off they just made excuses and then changed the subject so not a lot of point telling them about anything else, although I did message them about the microwave and received no reply.

Nice cottage with good parking the welcome pack was useful we enjoyed tea and biscuits on arrival The cottage is ideal for a couple with dog We found the bed very comfortable and the area is quiet so enjoyed good nights sleep Situated within easy reach of Buxton and Bakewell yet surrounded by beautiful countryside all made for an enjoyable week We used the local pub a couple of times for Sunday lunch and an evening meal the food is very good and reasonable priced also our dog was made welcome too
-
"Just came home after a lovely holiday in 1 primitive Croft, the cottage was lovely and equipped with everything you need."
The welcome package was great . Tracy the owner was very helpful ,friendly and recommended a great horse trekking centre which we managed to get a trek in at short notice yay . We would definitely come back again
-

"The description is a little miss leading - states King size bedroom but is a double bed."
Shower is only for hair washing not body shower. It is important to understand that there is no phone signal.
-
"Lovely cottage, just the right size of the 2 of us & dog."
Everything was just right, from walking in to leaving. Tracey one of the owners was lovely arriving with lots of bottled water & apologies at Seven Trent needing to turn the water off on our 2nd day. No phone signal & very limited internet which was really nice. Pub at end of village offers a warm welcome & free wifi, food is good too. We will be returning.
-
"Lovely cottage in beautiful Peak District village."
Excellent location as a base for exploring the area. The cottage itself was comfortable and well equipped, with some welcome goodies which were much appreciated.
-
"Everything was where explained it would be, everything electrical worked, nothing was complicated."
The walks were brilliant, pub was so friendly, and dog friendly. Would definitely go again.
-
"Lovely cosy cottege, local pub very welcoming and excellent food, fabulous area for walking and cycling."
Owner very promptly fixed a small issue we had with the bath .
-
"Everything was great except for the extremely creaky bed."
We ended up on the floor because it was so bad.
-
"What an absolutely lovely and well presented cottage, ideally suited for walks and nearby towns."
And what a pleasure for our dog the 3 acre she could run around in, she absolutely loved it, infact since she's been back home because she didn't go round the field for her walk she's been sulking all morning. Not forgetting of course the dog friendly pub at the end of the village, the Church Inn, great ales and great food, maybe large portions but who cares, Fabulous! What a brilliant break! Only one slight negative a shame there wasn't any cleaning products because we do like to make sure we've left the cottages clean when we've stayed there, but a truly fantastic cottage and a lovely couple Carl & Tracey ready to solve any problem should it arise, which it didn't, GREAT!!!
-
"The location of the cottage was excellent, it is a beautiful area."
Colin and Tracey were very warm and welcoming and gave us some really useful information. The cottage itself was a pleasure. Everything we needed. Furnished to a high standard. We had access to a private meadow walk which was absolutely lovely in the evening. Would highly recommend it. Please be aware that due to space in the bedroom, the double bed is a bit on the small side. I went with my daughter and as she doesn't take up too much room, it was fine for us.
-
"Lovely cottage in beautiful location, nice and quiet but only a short drive from Buxton."
The cottage had everything we needed and the village had a lovely little pub and lots of local walks.
-
"Only problem and I mean the only problem was the shop was about 5 miles away so you must be organised"
-
"We really enjoyed our holiday at this cottage."
We had lovely weather and were able to explore the area. The cottage was very comfortable and Angus our westie enjoyed the freedom of the secure garden. Across the road was a secure paddock for cottage guests only and this was great for dog walking with wonderful views. On the first evening we were invited to a welcome meeting by the owners which was a good way to find out about the local attractions. We visited the local pub on many evenings where we received a warm welcome. Do be aware that there is no internet provided and the phone signal was virtually non existent although my phone did pick up a signal in the paddock opposite. I would add that the artificial grass and the fact that there were no plants in the garden was a bit of a shame as that was not in keeping with the other gardens in the area, and (as mentioned by other reviewers) the bed is very squeaky indeed, as are the upstairs floorboards. However, we really enjoyed our stay and thought the cottage was in an ideal location, being in a quiet village with very little traffic.
-
"Cottage was clean bright and welcoming."
very good modern appliances and quiet. Absolutely fantastic area to holiday, good road links north, south, east and west. Really beautiful countryside very accessible for walking and mountain biking. I did mark the facilities down to 3 out of 4 as no broadband or mobile phone signal in the village and several places around the area. have relatives live in towns near by and wanted to make arrangements to meet up but had to drive a mile or so for decent phone signal, also doing some family history research but not able to interrogate computer at leisure for information without going to the local pub or going to nearest town. Otherwise had enjoyable break.

"Our stay at the cottage in June was lovely."
There was me, my hubby and our dog. The cottage itself was really nice and cosy. Just a few minor niggles... very squeaky bed, Seating in lounge needs to be abit bigger as only a small 2 seater settee in there,, hot water an issue as only enough for 1 bath at the end of the day! garden is a sun trap which is enclosed for the dog. There is a lovely spa bath which was used at the end of every day. The village of Chelmorton is so quiet, there is a great pub at the top which serves great, fresh food (huge portions). There are nice walks for dogs as well. Chelmorton is based between Buxton and Bakewell. Which are both nice towns to visit. There is a Morrison’s supermarket as you get to Buxton which is convenient. We had some lovely walks on the Monsal Trail which goes for miles. The paddock which the owners have made, very secure for walking your dog and it’s cottage residents only with a padlock on the gate. There is so much to do and 1 week is not enough so we will definitely be returning
-
"The bed was extremely squeaky and quite irritating."
-
"The cottage is in a small Derbyshire village with a pub up the hill."
An ideal base for getting into the Derbyshire Dales.
-
"Excellent location."
Very easy to travel to Buxton, Bakewell, Chatsworth etc. Also close to Tissington Trail and Pennine Bridleway for level, easy walking with great views. Pub and Church in the village both worth a visit. Croft was warm and comfortable. Only had one problem while we were there and Tracey sorted it out as soon as I let her know about it. Having the paddock to let our dog run around before going up to the pub was a real plus too.

"1 Primitive Croft is a one bedroom holiday cottage."
It was perfect for us and our dog to stay for a couple of days. We had quite a lot of snow during our stay which made the surrounding environment extremely picturesque (and our dog loved playing in the private enclosed meadow!). There were just a couple of 'niggles' that, if addressed, would've made our stay perfect and would encourage us to stay for a longer period. The first, which has been mentioned in previous reviews, is that there is no stand up shower. Currently the shower is located half way up the wall over the bath. Could this be moved further up the wall and a shower curtain installed? The other issue was 'dog' related. The owners hold a meet up on a Friday evening to welcome guests from Primitive Croft and other holiday rentals. They ask that dogs are left in the cottage but not to allow them upstairs. However, there are no doors or means to prevent them roaming where they wish when not supervised. Perhaps a stair gate could be provided? Lastly, it would be very useful if the owners left a 'Visitors book'. We have stayed in numerous rentals and found these to be extremely useful...not only to report little problems that you don't particularly want to write in a formal review but also as a means of recommending to future guests places of interest etc.
-
"Due to the bad weather we were unable to travel and so did not get to stay at the cottage so cannot comment on any of the above."
-
"I thought it was a beautiful little cottage located in the heart of Derbyshire."
The reception was bad, the long walks were perfect and simply romantic, everything you could expect from a weekend trip in a cottage. The owner was pleasant and approachable. I would not have had a TV upstairs however, the one downstairs was big enough for two rooms! The underfloor heating was also a great highlight, the modernity of the buildings keeping within the aesthetic of the village is quite remarkable. It may have been a peak weekend or with the places just being built, I found it a little bit overpriced. However, with this being said, I would definitely recommend this to family or friends.
-
"I would rebook this cottage based on its location and cleanliness however, I feel that it needs to be made clear that there is no stand up shower facility which is awkward unless you want a bath (which takes a long time to fill)."
Also, the bed is extremely squeaky and woke me up every time I turned over in the night so a new mattress would solve this problem easily. It was great to have the starter food pack and the wood for the wood burner though.
-
"We loved staying at this cottage, very clean, comfortable and well equipped for our needs."
Lovely location, and drive up with wonderful views. All of the Peak District is close at hand by car. The only downside I would say is that we were not able to adjust heating or hot water. I was going to take a bath on the Saturday evening, however the water was only tepid, (after pressing the boost button on the thermostat and waiting for an hour or so as advised in information pack) and so had to wait till morning. The owners only live a few doors down, however we really didn't want to disturb them late on a snowy evening, and we really didn't want to go out again either)! We did have a lot of snow whilst there, and the thermostat showed the cottage was 17 degrees when we got back from our day out Saturday evening. We Luckily had brought our own logs for the woodburner, as there was only one large log, and very little kindling when we arrived late Friday evening. The other things to note (and this is made very clear on booking). There is no phone signal at the cottage and no internet. To be fair the whole area has intermittent signals and goes with the territory and we were prepared for that. We ventured into the lovely village of Longnor on Sunday morning, and were stranded there due to quite heavy snow for several hours, (again zero phone signal), luckily the cafe was open and we were able to get tea and snacks and wait things out. It was amazing to watch the snowploughs come out on a Sunday and clear the roads. We live in London and don't think the snow clearance would be anywhere near as efficient!! To recap, lovely cottage, modern, cosy, private, perfect for a couple (and our Hound). Would love to see the changes through the seasons, but beautiful covered in snow. Just a few little niggles. Oh yes and for some reason the T.V in the bedroom turned itself on 3 times, first time at about 4am. Not sure if someone had set it up as an alarm, but was a tad annoying being woken up several times in the early hours!!
-
"Beautiful cottage only downside , couldn’t get a signal on my I phone ."
I had to stand in the bath change to areoplane mode then switch back and hopefully get 4G and keep still Wi if would be brilliant and sports channels on the tv.
-
"Zero customer service from Sykes when I asked for help."
(I did get a response, but this was totally useless). Cottage has very good location in Peak District, everything of interest is within an hours drive (or less). Walking the roads and fields around village was very nice. Best trips: walk to Thor's Cave (Manifold Valley), visit Ashbourne and drive the Snake Pass (near Glossop). Cottage has high quality in certain areas, disapointing in other areas. I expected A+, but can't give more than a C. No proper shower, no underfloor heating in bathroom, windows without curtains, no sidetable with sofa, no Wifi (although perfect Wifi available via BT for extra cost). Good daytime lighting was a plus, but this is also a bad point because there is no nice atmosphere possible with less bright lights. Please place TV further away from couch. Picture quality was very disapointing because of bad signal I guess. Pans and pots need updating, bigger souppan and bigger frying pan would be very nice. No sound insulation to cottage next door, extremely noisy when neighbours are 'at home'. This was unexpected, very annoying and the main reason why i will not book this cottage again.
-
"The location is ideal for visiting various areas in Derbyshire."
The cottage was comfortable, cosy and welcoming after long walks in the November weather! Already recommended it to friends and would probably pick this one for any future visits in this area!
-
"Lovely cottage done to a very high standard, in a peaceful location fabulous bathroom large TV with many dvds to watch!"
Not far from both bakewell & buxton. Beautiful
-
"Very comfortable, well-equipped cottage in a beautiful location."
Ideal for a restful break for the 2 of us and our Sproodle. He loved the garden and the access to the paddock for a good run round. The cottage was much roomier than we had expected for a one bedroomed place and had high quality fittings. We liked the peace and quiet of no phone signal or WiFi.
-
"On our first evening we were invited by Carl and Tracey to a welcome get together along with the other holiday makers."
We found this most interesting and informative about the area and local attractions. Chelmorton Village and its habitants are very friendly and helpful with any questions that we put to them. The local pub - Church Inn - do reasonable meals and holds a Pub Quiz and Bingo on a Monday evening. The village of Cheltmorton is ideally situated between Buxton and Bakewell which are easily reached within 15 minutes. Overall we had a very pleasant stay.
-
"This is a lovely new cottage for 2 in a friendly village."
. Very helpful and informative owners. Dog friendly with the bonus of enclosed paddocks for exercising the dog. Welcome pack was much appreciated after our journey. Just a few bits missing ie iron and ironing board, something to hang wet clothes on as a washing machine is provided but no line or airer. Wifi would be good as no tourist info in the cottage so we could not see what is available in the area. Huge tv in the lounge and the bonus of one in the bedroom too. The heating is VERY efficient and the jaccuzi bath lovely to ease sore muscles. Friendly pub at the top of the village serving good food. We were only the second people to rent this cottage and we are sure that when the remaining few bits of work are completed it will be first class. We would definitely recommend this cottage.
