  • "What a great cottage in a lovely village attached to a fabulous pub that does cracking food."

    Will be back for sure!

  • "The cottage itself was pretty and in a lovely location but unfortunately was very dark inside with hardly any natural light."

Lights had to be on at all times. Photos listed made it look like there was a quite large garden when in fact it was for car parking. Very disappointed that the cottage was unclean. Especially showers which had to be cleaned before first use. Dust and hairs on floors and under/ around furniture. Also thick dust on sculptures above bed. Not good as two of our family have dust allergies and asthma. Loose cushions on sofa dirty. Cobwebs. The hoover in the property smelt foul. The cottage would benefit from a deep clean. On a positive note, Comfortable beds, Plenty of kitchen crockery and utensils, Pretty location, Pub food next door tasty.

  • "A fabulous retreat in a picturesque village in the Derbyshire Dales."

A welcoming and friendly host in the CAMRA pub next door which also has good food if you don’t fancy cooking at the end of a busy day! The cottage has privacy (you even have private access to the pub), a secluded patio/seating area with wonderful views and a selection of walks you can take direct from your doorstep. Well appointed and comfortable we have no hesitation in recommending the Church Inn Cottage.

Beds very comfortable. Pub next door excellent. Great location to explore the beautiful Peak District. I would say that the sitting/kitchen accommodation would be rather small for six people, but as there were only two of us, it was great.

The cottage is in a good location for exploring the area. We visited the pub for meals and quiz night and could not fault anything, food was excellent and Justin and his team were very helpful. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

It is a tastefully decorated & modern cottage. Really home from home with everything you needed to make it a relaxing stay. Plus the pub next door is perfect for great meals & good ales. We block booked a dog friendly table for six each night which was perfect after a days walking. Justin the landlord of both the pub & cottage & his staff were all very friendly. The cottage is ideal for good walks either directly from the cottage or with lots of other fab walks including Kinder Scout or Mam Tor only a short drive away. The private courtyard was a real sun trap & we enjoyed several breakfasts sat outside enjoying the peace & quiet. Plenty of private parking which is always a bonus. A great stay & have recommended to friends already!

WIFI is not good, it runs off the pub next door, so signal is very low or none existent in some rooms. The pub next door is great for food, but gets very busy, so I would book.

We enjoyed a 'welcome pack' of tea/coffee and biscuits and were delighted to have a song thrush singing outside the window every day! Handy for visiting Bakewell and Tideswell and we managed a few interesting and varied walks from the cottage despite the rain and mud in the fields!

  • "The cottage was spotless and the luxury of having an en suite in every bedroom was superb."

We chose this cottage because it takes dogs and had flat floors throughout which were easy for my partially sighted 96 year old mother to negotiate. Beautiful walks right from the cottage and close proximity to gorgeous scenery meant it had everything we needed, as well as the lovely hosts right next door in the pub. Fantastic. We would love to book it again.

  • "We had a great time at this cottage which is ideally located for exploring the local area, and is only 10 minutes from Buxton which, in itself, is a beautiful spa town to visit as well as a source of supplies."

The cottage has been tastefully rennovated with quality materials, and provides all the amenities necessary for a comfortable stay. It's proximity to the local pub offering an extensive menu is a distinct advantage, and is highly recommended. The only minor downside is that the internet connection is a little flakey, but that's not necessarily a bad thing when on holiday with the family. It is ideally suited to dogs, with an enclosed area surrounding the property, and direct access to footpaths from the extensive parking area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there, and have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone planning a holiday in the area.

The Church Inn Pub next door served excellent food at reasonable prices and it was great to be able to just "pop" next door for dinner each night. The cottage is exceptionally well equipped and decorated perfectly, we were a party of six large adults and at time the lounge was a squeeze but all the bedrooms were roomy and spacious and we just loved having our own ensuite bathrooms.

The pub next door of the same name was also fabulous, the landlord and landlady worked wonders running the place and serving possibly the best pub food every single night. There was never any reason to look for somewhere else to eat and the choice of ales was exceptional too. Would definitely recommend this destination to everyone and will be returning ourselves.

The cottage was a delight. We had a minor problem with the heating which was immediately dealt with. The proximity to the Church Inn was a bonus with excellent food, and a good selection of beers, wines, and spirits. It is at the edge of the village, no cars can drive past the cottage, so it was really quiet. An excellent long weekend - we will be back!!

Four of us stayed, so having an en-suite in each bedroom was fabulous. Only one adult was able to be in the kitchen area at any one time, especially when the hob or oven was being used, but this gave us the opportunity in allocating the cooking to one person each day. If you cook you don’t stack the dishwasher. We had an evening meal in the pub, lovely meals with a good selection and very nice specials. We felt very welcome, and the short cut to it from the cottage was an added bonus.

We did all our own cooking and the kitchen facilities were okay . Loved the bedroom . Beds were very comfortable . Great that we had our own toilet / shower. We found the wifi very disappointing. It was difficult to use our mobile phones : and I pads to contact home . We would most definitely book again next year . Everything about the cottage was great ( dispite the wifi ) . The area was very interesting ,plenty of places to see of interest . All in all it was a lovely holiday dispite a few days of rain . We have all the details of the holiday to book again next year . Oh we only had one meal at the Pub inn ..a Sunday roast fully recommend. Hope this is of some help .

About the location

BUXTON

Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
