  • "Once again we booked via Sykes for the best in self catering."

This was a booking for my brother and his family which had a tough start due to power outages in Derbyshire following a huge storm. Sykes helped with sorting this out and everyone having a great Christmas. Huge thanks to Sykes for great support and selection of places to stay.

  • "Owls Barn was an ideal holiday property for the 6 of us in a beautiful and convenient setting for our teenage boys to run along the Tissington trail and for parents and grandparent to enjoy walking."

It was spotlessly clean, comfortable, and well equipped for all our needs. Alison was a friendly and helpful host who provided us with useful information about the farm and their beautiful herd of cows. This was our second visit to the barns and we look forward to going again.

Alison is a very friendly host who clearly takes pride in her properties. Plenty of walks from the door and local to some very pretty villages including Hartington (be sure to visit the Cheese Shop) and Tissington. This was our third stay at these cottages (also stayed at Shepherds Retreat) and booking again for next year. A truly hidden gem!!

The owner has thought about everything that the holiday maker needs for a comfortable stay. The cottage itself is of a very high standard with tasteful decor. The location is scenic and quiet, with lovely walks from the doorstep, including the Tissington trail. It is within easy reach of places of interest a little further afield. We had a wonderful few days here and I would highly recommend this cottage.

Only a very short stroll or cycle to access the Tissington Trail and to walks along the river Dove and the Waterloo Inn in Biggin is recommended. Great lunches and service after a long walk.. Owls Barn has lovely views from the kitchen windows. Great to meet the owner Alison who took the time to come and say hello. Would definitely stay here again. Probably the best holiday rental we’ve ever had. Highly recommended.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback this is very important to us, on the coffee table their is a black folder with information on the local village, in the oak sideboard we have lots of leaflets, I am sorry you missed these. Owls Barn has one family bathroom upstairs and a downstairs cloakroom. We also own the property next door, The Haybarn which you may find better suited for 6 Adults ( 2 bathrooms). There is a warning sign on the door warning guests that there is a step in the kitchen. Again thank you for leaving feedback. Property Owner

About the location

HARTINGTON

Bakewell 10 miles; Buxton 10 miles.

Hartington, situated in the Dove Valley in the Peak District National Park, was an important market centre in the Middle Ages, having been granted a market charter in 1203. Today the ever-popular village boasts lovely tea rooms, a cheese shop, old curiosity shops, traditional pubs and a splendid market square where the stone-carved village pump, once an important source of water for the villagers, still stands on the green. The local bars stock local ales brewed at the Leatherbritches Brewery in Fenny Bentley and Whim Ales in Hartington itself. The former Hartington railway station, about a mile and half from the village itself, is now a picnic area and the converted track is known as the Tissington Trail, popular with both walkers and cyclists. Hartington is also a good starting point for walking along Beresford Dale, a beautiful place with its curiously formed cliffs and rocks. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are both within a 20 minute drive, and Alton Towers is within easy reach.
