We had a great time at the cottage everything was as it said it was very clean and comfortable we will be coming back in December this year for my fathers birthday and we hope we will be able to book for 2 weeks it’s a very pleasant cottage and the owners are exceptional

  • "We were greeted on arrival and given a quick tour of the property."

The cottage was lovely. Plenty of space for everyone. Heaters worked to keep the cottage nice and warm. The setting is so peaceful, down a farm road, but very handy location for exciting the area. Just bring a paper map or atlas to start you off as there's no signal or WiFi (which I loved! My two pre-teens played board games and joined in conversations!)

Glad you enjoyed your break Property Owner

  • "Comfortable cosy cottage in an ideal location for walks from the cottage."

Nice views from both front and back..you can hear and watch curlews and skylarks from the windows. The pictures don’t do it justice, it has a dining area with large table. We would definitely recommend it.

  • "Overall the owner was lovely as was the cottage and the location."

We noted a few minor issues, the lighting could be brighter in the property as it was quite dark even with the lights on. The shower was quite weak with flow quality and it was a bit of a struggle to get a “quick” shower. There was some type of water flow system that draws water or fills up during the night in the double bedroom which did wake the husband and baby at different times during the week. Other than that we enjoyed our stay and the break from Wi-Fi and mobile phones

Had everything we needed for our stay, and the property was very clean throughout. Owners were very helpful and charming. Google maps is a bit misleading as it takes you to another location (not owners fault), but if id read the how to get here instructions on booking confirmation we'd have found the place first time....lol. A lovely place to stay, hoping to go back in the future. Thanks

  • "We loved our stay at Downsdale Cottage."

The house was very clean, comfortable and had everything you may need for home from home comforts. We loved the fact that the cottage was set in such quiet and peaceful location, the lack of signal and wi-fi helped us switch off and connect as a family. The location in brilliant for exploring this beautiful national park.

  • "This is a lovely cottage."

It was a great out of the way location for us. Beautiful scenery and will be great in the summer. The owners are really friendly and we would highly recommend this cottage for some badly needed peace and tranquility.

  • "The cottage itself was spotlessly clean both inside and out, considering it's in a farm location, and better than we expected."

If you were buying, you could move in so to speak. The owners, who lived next door were very helpful too. The location is very remote, walking to the local pub not an option, though plenty of on-site walks and cycling trails on wonderful open moorland. Our only issue (which for many we suppose would be a godsend), was the fact that there was no wifi, no mobile phone service, and the TV signal was poor to non existant. Though we were expecting these issues, to be without, came as a shock to the system, as we did have a medical issue, so not having access to a phone etc was a concern. However this is not a criticism. The farm had one of those scatty sheepdogs called Nellie who constantly wanted us to throw a deflated football so she could retrieve it for us. There was also a newly arrived kitten so new it had yet to be named. A lovely time, in a lovely cottage, in a wonderful location. On a negative note, the GOOGLEMAP picture directions which accompanied 'how to get to!' was a good mile off. We went to the location suggested in person, and although the farm looked similar to the aerial photo it was hopelessly wrong. Anyone arriving after dark or in poor weather would be seriously cheesed off. We think it's a googlemap issue as our own farm confirmed the postcode was correct, but the farm we were sent too was not in that postcode. *** We are happy for you to publish our observations but would like to remain anonymous. Thank You ***

  • "The bathroom / shower needs upgrade."

Shower just a dribble with soggy shower curtain which also leaked onto bathroom floor Issue with tv also which kept losing signal in wet/windy weather Front door would benefit from a thick curtain or something to keep out the draft? On plus side very well equipped kitchen, comfy beds and excellent heating system - as we were there at Christmas and very cold outside !

  • "Our first experience of a Self Catering Cottage could not have been better!"

Both my wife and myself thoroughly enjoyed the quiet country life for a few days without the distractions of phones and WiFi! The cottage itself was extremely clean, well maintained and fully equipped. The surroundings and the local countryside walks were so beautiful. A hot cup of tea in front of an open fire after a 3.5hr hike in wet weather was just bliss! As a minor improvement: considering the lack of internet and therefore unable to plan local walks once there, perhaps pre-prepared LOCAL walk routes (or other activities) could be made available in the hut for the visitors. But the hosts were very hospitable and helpful, the location was convenient and the countryside was beautiful! What more can one ask for as a get away from stressful life! Would definitely go again, and this time with the whole family

The owner of the Cottage was very welcoming on arrival and met our needs. We had to cut our holiday short because of my wife’s health, but had a few great days exploring the area despite the weather.

  • "Pretty ideal location."

All the old railway lines and other routes for cycling easily accessible. Walking either on doorstep (3 shires head, Ramshaw rocks, …) or close by. Pub less than 1 mile did good food and beer. Mainly avoided Buxton due to A6 roadworks but Leek only a few miles down the road. No internet nor mobile reception at cottage but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The accommodation is set a beautiful location which overlooks fields, giving a stunning view to wake up to and is a perfect base for hiking/walking or just relaxing. The actual annex accommodation was immaculately clean and had everything you could possibly want for a short stay - or even longer. The kitchen was well equipped and the living room and bedrooms were extremely comfortable. Washing up liquid/sponges, laundry powder, toilets rolls etc were all provided. There is no Wi-fi at the premises - it was NOT an issue for us as we had checked beforehand - but worth knowing in advance if you plan on using mobile devices for phone calls/texts/maps/local amenities etc - you would need to move to a place where you could get a signal... eg the local town. We honestly loved this place

Owners very helpful and are there if you have any problems. 7 miles from Buxton a beautiful town with lots of interesting architecture. Cottage is in an area whereby you can reach lots of interesting places such as Chatsworth, Crich Tram Museum, Cromford village etc , without having to spend hours in travelling time. Scenery in the immediate area is beautiful and I think is equal to the Lake District or even Scotland, we will certainly return to the area again.

Cottage was well equipped and comfortable. Helpful, friendly owners. Until the coal fire got going we found that the downstairs storage heater was not quite adequate for the unusually cold weather during our stay. The owners provided us with an additional electric heater which improved the situation. The heating was fine upstairs. We would definitely use this cottage again

  • "Had a great break at this lovely cottage."

Brilliant location with good access to The Roaches, Mam Tor and Dovedale - all within 1/2 hour. Even though it is close to A53 for access it still felt remote and was very peaceful. Cottage has a beautiful coal fire with free coal, is well equipped, bigger than expected there is also a dining room not shown in the pics, was spotlessly clean and has great views. Was a bit quirky in places which was fine - it’s old and so for instance some doors needed a shove to close but this added to the character - overall was very relaxing and homely. This cottage would get top marks from us but we had one issue that we found the 2 single mattress a bit uncomfy - prob fine for kids but not supportive enough for adults. Main bed was fine.
