  • "A really lovely cottage which the whole family enjoyed."

We loved how close it was to the Tissington trail and Alton Towers, and much fun was had at these destinations as well as in the cottage itself. We are a family of 6, with 4 kids under the age of 12, and there was room enough for us all. Thank you!

  • "Fantastic place to stay."

Plenty of room, two bathrooms, well equipped. Great location with walks from the door. Would recommend to others.

  • "Nice place to stay, such a shame the owner wont update local amenities such as a pub & tearooms within 2 mins walk, locals told us these have been shut for at least 6(tearooms) & (pub)12 months, maybe that's why no one has bothered to do any feed back in 2023, I contacted the owner and her reply was there's a pub 1 mile away, correct but its in another village with a steep hill to negotiate on an unlit country lane, we booked this property because of the close proximity of the tearooms & pub for evening meals with my 81 year old Aunt."

during our stay we told her mice were in the kitchen units and her reply was, never had them before, made us feel as it was our fault. If your going autumn/winter make sure the heating is turned on the day before arrival as it stores heat from the previous night. after messaging the owner about the false info of village amenities, she said advert states pubs within a mile which is true, but that's not a 2 minute walk for us is it. I have kept the messages from the between me and the owner

As discussed with you the details prepared by Sykes Cottages have been amended to remove the fact that there was a tea room in the village which has now closed. We have left the comment about pubs and shops within 1 mile as this is still true. I have no control over the pub in the village currently undergoing a refurbishment programme and the other pub is definitely within 1 mile from the village centre. I cannot help the fact that you didn't want to walk or drive there. As you wanted compensation for the pub being closed, and I wouldn't agree to this, I think this is the main reason for your negative feedback! You only told me about mice in one of the kitchen cupboards on the last evening of your two week stay and didn't respond to my question asking about where you had seen evidence of this. I did state we have never had problems with my mice before and this is in fact true. We can only surmise you may have left a door open and one got in. This issue has now been eradicated and everything thoroughly disinfected. With regard to the heating, yes they charge up overnight, and ordinarily, I would put these on before guests arrive but as we are in the summer months we don't put the heating on as the property is normally very warm. I am glad you liked the property and am sorry you had a few little niggles about the location. But, as far as villages go, we are quite well served as we have a village shop, post office, chip shop, sweet shop and pub in the village itself and a second pub within 1 mile. We also have a children's play area. The pub in the village will reopen soon and will be much welcomed. Property Owner

We were a group of 5 friends and it was perfect A great position for exploring the dales with shop, pub and great fish and chip shop on your doorstep. We had a wonderful weekend and would love to return. Thank you to the owners for letting us borrow your wonderful place, Lisa King

  • "Wanted to give 5 stars because its such a lovely property."

Spacious, well equipped and classy. Just the plumbing issue in the main bathroom toilet that didn't get sorted and the fact that it takes the house more time to heat up because of storage heaters (if the house was not occupied before the stay) means this doesn't get top marks. Otherwise, a beautiful location and a beautiful house.

  • "Hilcrest is an absolutely beautiful house set in the peaceful village of Longnor."

The countryside around is breathtaking and there are ample walks and cycle rides right on your doorstep. The house itself is beautiful too. It’s a Grade II listed building with many period features and stunning views from every window. Every facility is provided for and it is comfortable and clean. Many sights and attractions are within an easy drive and nearby Buxton has everything you need in terms of supermarkets and other necessities. We had a few little issues while we were there and we contacted the owner who came out straight away while we were out for the day and fixed everything without question so that our stay was no impacted at all. I would definitely recommend Longnor for families and couples looking for a peaceful, idyllic getaway in one of the most stunning places in the UK.

My 4 year old was absolutely smitten and never wanted to leave. We loved our stay and having access to a hoover and cleaning products made it much simpler to be on holiday with 2 4 year olds.

We parked right outside all week without any difficulty and enjoyed using the local shop, wonderful chippy and excellent restaurant, as well as the great local playground. We found some lovely walks direct from the property and it was a perfect base to travel around the Peak District to nearby attractions. Many thanks to the owners.

  • "A rustic, charming, beamed cottage, very close to the centre of Longnor."

It is clean and well equipped with a spacious separate kitchen, lounge and separate dining room. Owners were communicative and helpful. Tea and biscuits left to welcome us on our arrival. Parking is on road, either outside the property or on the nearby Market Square. Longnor, a jumble of lanes and interesting characterful properties, offers opportunities for many wonderful walks in the Peak District/Staffordshire hills and valleys, there are several routes starting from Longnor, avoiding the need to drive. The village has pubs, cafes, a corner shop and a great fish and chip shop. We will return!

  • "A great place to stay with easy access to walks from the door."

The cottage was warm and clean on our arrival. There was everything we needed in the spacious kitchen for making meals and eating in. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms spotlessly clean. We enjoyed a meal out on the Saturday night in the Merchant House just a minute from the house. After each of the walks we had a good pint in a couple of the different pubs in the area, The Sunday afternoon was topped off by a bluegrass group playing in the Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese. We had a lovely relaxing weekend without needing to get in the car as we had everything we needed on the doorstep. Highly recommended.

  • "We did not think the cottage merited four stars."

Yes the furniture was comfortable but the heating system is antiquated and needs seriously updating. The heater in the en suite was not working and the owner was completely unconcerned when we phoned to report the fact. There is no instruction book for the cooker. The cottage appears unloved and uncared for. The oven was dirty and the cottage needs a thorough spring clean. There was no access to the back yard where a gutter or overflow was dripping badly in heavy rain. The information book in the sitting room is out of date and we were extremely disappointed to discover when we phoned the owner to check that there were no recycling facilities available. We are frankly amazed that Sykes are prepared to tolerate this. In the end we brought the recycling home with us. We do not support putting clean recyclable material in the general rubbish and are surprised that you do. I await your comments before I consider booking with your organisation again.

Thank you for taking the time to let me know your thoughts, feedback is very important to us and is normally very positive. The heating is electric as there is no mains gas in the village, this is as described in the details. This is set to optimise the heat in the cottage so it should never be cold. I apologise that the heater in the bathroom wasn't working, I was unable to provide an electric heater for the bathroom due to safety restrictions as advised and couldn't get an electrician out at short notice. Your comments regarding cleanliness will be passed on to the cleaners however, the feedback regarding this is usually very good. During your stay we experienced two storms which would account for the guttering overflowing, this was out of our control. The recycling information has been updated but the rules surrounding this are made by the local council. Thank you once again for your comments, we will take these on board. Property Owner
