  • "Underbank Cottage is such a happy place for us, back for the 4th time."

Everything is just how we would like it and as good now as it was 9 years ago on our first visit, very comfy bed! It was a lovely day when we arrived and we sat and ate the delicious homemade scones and jam outside in the sunshine, great start to our holiday. I would like to say that following a previous reviewer commenting on the bright light outside the bedroom window, the owners have put a shield up which is extremely effective.

The cottage is spotlessly clean and well equipped. The owners are very helpful. When we stayed there was deep snow. They cleared the drive each day for us. We were greeted with scones and jam. Definitely a great place to stay.

  • "What a gorgeous property!"

We are 'veterans' of the cosy 1 bedroom selfcatering cottage and can say from experience that this one is brilliant. Most 'cosy' cottages are actually cramped... but this one manages to be both spacious AND cosy at the same time. Great location for being in the country and yet close to amenities (Coop, Lidl, fish & chip shop etc) and LOADS of good walks just a short drive away (we circumnavigated 5 lochs during our stay).

  • "We feel the cottage was lovely but they need to update the leaflets for the area including eateries as many are very out of date."

We also felt that the outside light that stayed on till late was very annoying and distracting when we went to bed as it lit up the whole room even with the curtains pulled.

Just far enough out of the way and very quiet in the evening, but close enough to get into the peaks and travel to the usual hotspots during the day.

  • "I am making it clear I am reviewing Underbank Hall Cottage not the company Sykes."

The feedback form seems geared to Sykes not the efforts of the cottage owner? I didn't appreciate being emailed on the morning before we left (only there for a long weekend) about packing up ... The external photo of the cottage does not do it justice. It is an absolute gem of a cottage and location. The driveway and surrounding gardens are beautiful and the cottage decorated and equipped to a high standard and so comfortable. Everything worked so simply. No ridiculous instructions for the TV and shower etc. We hope to return to see the gardens in better weather.

  • "Underbank Hall was a wonderful experience."

The owners were so friendly and welcoming and helpful. In these Covid19 times I couldn’t have felt safer staying there. I grew up in Stocksbridge and passed the driveway thousands of times: it was such a joy to see the Hall, stay in the Housekeepers cottage and enjoy the views and the gardens.

  • "Having stayed here for a week followed by another cottage in Wales I can compare the two."

Although the 2nd one was a little more expensive this was due its location and general appearance. Also provided were some basis such as salt and a few tea bags and coffee. Also a welcome pack of wine, cake and crisps. Two books were also provided for holiday comments and any improvements. These were of only a small cost but made a massive difference to our holiday and could easily be implemented here

  • "Everything about this cottage was wonderful, set in beautiful location with stunning views."

As soon as you arrive it has a very homely and relaxing feel. The cake and tea went down a treat after a 4 hour journey and we all settled in well. The bed was so comfortable and well needed after a day of exploring the peak. The little thoughtful details like having the lamps on (we arrived when dark) curtains closed, heating on a comfortable heat, the cake and tea and relaxing bubble bath to use there really set the holiday off from the beginning - so thank you very much! The ensuite bathroom is lovely and modern with a walk in shower and lovely big bath. It really was the perfect way to celebrate the husbands birthday and see in the new year. We can not wait to return to underbank hall cottage in the summer!

  • "Underbank Hall Cottage is an idyllic retreat from the hurly burly of everyday life."

It is spotlessly clean, well-equipped and very spacious for two people with a large living area/kitchen and a huge bedroom with en suite facilities. The cottage garden is very well-stocked and well-maintained but its main advantage is that it looks out over the owners’ huge and beautifully-presented grounds and beyond to views of the local moors; simply stunning. We also found the location to be convenient for long walks and visits to National Trust properties nearby. For those who enjoy cinema, the Penistone Paragon is a must; it’s like taking a trip back to the 1950s and is well worth a visit, if only for the interval where you queue up for ice-cream (just like in the olden days)! We strongly recommend this property and would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to Delia and David, the delightful owners whose discreet presence was reassuring but at no times intrusive.

  • "I only put MET expectations as I expect very high and that is what I got."

The cottage was in a beautiful location and was clean, cosy and calming. The gardens were magnificent and we met "the gardener" who turned out to be the owner. We spent a long time with him wandering around discussing the plants and flowers. The chickens were amazing with feathered crowns. The home-made scones were a delight and a welcome sight on arrival. We will be booking again, in a different season to see how things change as there was so much to see. Stocksbridge was a few minutes away and is well supported with shops and businesses although the fuel there is pricey. We found cheaper on our travels. The moors have little signposting so as to preserve the scenery, so a really good OS map is essential. There are some really beautiful villages to be discovered (and tearooms). There is a walk from the cottage which takes you down to the reservoir and as the walk is circular you end up back home.

  • "Beautiful cottage in a stunning location."

It has everything you need for a wonderful holiday. If, like us, you need the Internet then, unfortunately, this is the cottage’s one failing. The WiFi advertised was only available very intermittently and, as we were house hunting and needing maps etc, it meant we spent an awful amount of time in the nearby Fox Valley centre using their internet. If, however, you are looking to get away from it all in total comfort, then this is the right place to do just that, and we can highly recommend it.
