The property is now even better with the addition of a shower over the bath in the main bathroom in addition to the shower in the en suite to the second, making it much easier if you have 4 or 6 people staying. Newly repainted, its relaxed but comfortable feeling has been refreshed.

  • "Great location for days out."

Can recommend Travellers Rest for good food. Great space downstairs which allowed kids room to play and adults to relax. Property in need of some general maintenance. Two broken seats in front garden. Dangerous broken decking in back garden. Some upstairs furniture needed attached to walls. Out of date food in kitchen cupboards. Bedding appears to be very old and worn.

We are sorry that you felt there were some issues with the property - in particular that you did not mention any of this to us in our contact via texts whilst you were at the property. We are always very happy to help our guests and could have addressed any issues at the time. We have many repeat bookings and high ratings from guests, so your feedback was a little surprising and contrasts with that of everyone else. One of the seats at the front was awaiting removal, and we apologise that you were not informed. The decking must have been broken during your stay, we would have repaired it for you had you asked - and this has already been removed. We have been providing a few tins of food in the cupboard in case guests run out, guests are usually very happy to avail themselves of this - however this facility will be removed going forward. We do not accept your comment about the bedding, all bedding is replaced at the beginning of each season. Property Owner

  • "A very convenient cottage near a train station and the Peak District."

Very comfortable, warm and homely only 20 minutes from some walks in the Peak District. We used it as a base for visiting family in Sheffield, so it was perfect for us to be near the station.

  • "Lovely cottage in lovely area."

Shame we couldn't park by the cottage. The locals park with large gaps between cars, were we were told to park, its as if they don't like people coming and going. We had to park, 4/5 minutes walk away. But we still enjoyed it.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the cottage and the area. We are sorry that you had some issues with parking - this is not usually the case, but there is also usually plenty of parking on the next street - two mins away. Thank you again, Property Owner

Also very relaxed and helpful hosts made the stay easy. Good layout, lots of space and very convenient location. Parking was never an issue for us on the private lane. Well equipped - range cooker, lots of garden furniture and things for children and a good sized smart TV in the living room As with other reviewers the bathroom situation is a little strange but if you are a couple it s no problem and the owner is going to fit a shower to the main bathroom before bookings re-open which will really make it perfect.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. Please note; the additional shower is not yet installed but we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "After being told 10 days prior to our stay that there wasn’t a shower in the bathroom, which had a big impact to 4 adults getting ready in the mornings, then 48hours prior to our stay being told that there wasn’t a cot, high chair or stair gate, this caused a lot of stress."

My daughter-in-law left a message to say what time they were arriving as stated, 3 hours prior to arrival, they assumed someone would be at the cottage to sort entry, when my son & family arrived there wasn’t any information about the key code, between my daughter-in-law & myself we left several message with Craig, we couldn’t contact Ann Marie as her mobile number is not printed correctly. My son & daughter-in-law we’re getting very stressed not able to enter the cottage, especially having an 11 month old. Eventually Craig contacted my daughter-in-law after a neighbour said he would email him, Craig claimed he had sent the key code to myself & my daughter-in-law previously but neither of us received it until he sent it again. My husband & I had planned to arrive after work about 6.30, this also was stressful as we we’re having to bring the travel cot, high chair & stair gate with us as my son didn’t have room in his car which meant my grandson was more than ready for his bed when we arrived. The last ten days before and including the day we arrived was very stressful, not a good start to a well deserved holiday

Hi there. We were sorry to see that your break did not meet your expectations. The description on the website was not clear in regard to the shower, hence Sykes contacting you to clarify and also offering cancellation. We have never had baby gates at the property, however we do now provide a high chair, and apologise that this was not available for your stay. We did send the code as usual in plenty of time, and have never had a problem with guests receiving this, but again we apologise that this was not the case for yourselves. We were both at work, but Craig responded as soon as he was aware there was a problem. Sykes Cottages should also have been able to help, but we apologise that this added to your stress on arrival. We trust that you enjoyed your stay once you were in the property and thank you for your booking. Property Owner

About the location

DRONFIELD

Chesterfield 6 miles; Sheffield 7 miles.

Dronfield is a Derbyshire market town with a history dating back to before the 1086 Domesday Book, and has a number of 12th century buildings which are still in existence. The town has a wide range of shops, pubs, restaurants and also a modern sports centre, and is surrounded by wonderful Peak District countryside where the walks are asking to be explored.
