  • "Our stay at Vale barn was a highlight of our trip."

Beautifully presented, immaculately clean and all comforts and well equiped for cooking etc. The owners were very helpful and kindly left us some food and milk on our arrival including home made slice. The cottage was very convenient for visiting Sheffield and the Peak District. Dronfield was very pretty and we enjoyed some of the close by restaurants and Sainsburys and Aldi were in easy walking distance. Having the train station nearby was very convenient and the occasional sound of a train going by was no issue. We hope to stay at the barn again . Thankyou for having us.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments, it means a lot to us! Hopefully we will see you again next time you are in the UK! Lucy & David Property Owner

  • "Vale Barn is an excellent base for exploring the Peak District, Sheffield (eg theatres and museums) and further afield (eg Yorkshire Sculpture Park) - so it's ideal for this country's unpredictable weather."

The cottage itself is perfect: very well laid out, clean, well equipped and warm (and we were there when outside overnight temperatures were -5°). The owners are very helpful and friendly but not at all intrusive. The immediate area is perfect, with a station just a few minutes walk away and some great places to eat. We particularly enjoyed The Blue Stoops. Aldi and Sainsbury's are very close by, should you run out of supplies. The Town Trail is worth doing.

It's tucked away from the main residential area and feels so private. The cottage itself is beautifully decorated and cosy. The kitchen is huge and well stocked with pots, pans, utensils etc. The sofa is really comfy for lounging to watch TV. The bathroom is just lovely. There is nothing to fault at all. we had to leave a couple of days early as our son was ill (not covid) and the owners were really nice and friendly. There is a lovely coffee shop just a 2 minute walk from the cottage. I also want to mention the Angel Inn - a 5 min interested drive from the cottage. I am coeliac and follow a gluten free diet and this is by far the best restaurant for gluten free food. It was superb. The whole holiday was lovely, despite our son being poorly and the cottage was such a nice place to spend time in and relax.

  • "There is so much to love about the property for design spaciousness and equipment."

Upstairs the two bedrooms and bathrooms are separated by the mezzanine landing so very private, and the showers were powerful with plentiful hot water. The kitchen is so well equipped with the spacious dining and lounge area. Pity no one in our group plays the piano! Lucy left us a good selection of items including fruit and flapjacks and she and David were on hand promptly sorting the alarm and unjamming a key for us! We didn’t find the parking space easy to access and parked on the road instead and visitors should be aware that the path and steps down to the cottage is quite steep. There are regular trains nearby but mostly not intrusive. Dronfield itself is pleasant to stroll around, The Forge centre cafe and restaurant nearby, and Hall Barn (near Sainsburies) serves a variety of food and excellent coffee.

It is very easy to stay at this property, warm cozy and comfortable with everything you need and more. Accommodating owners and everything very well maintained and looked after. Great kitchen with big fridge freezer and all the equipment you need. Peaceful and relaxing setting with no appreciable noise or disturbance from the train line and so many facilities, including the station in walking distance, some good pubs with good food and Sainsbury's and Aldi all very close by. Only one minor suggestion for improvement - very limited wineglasses and especially at Christmas, New Year having some champagne flutes would be good - when you are treating family to the good stuff, it is nice to have an appropriate glass!

It's a beautiful and spacious barn conversion. Very well spec'd, comfy, homely and warm. The kitchen is huge, very well equiped, top notch and has all the utensils, pots pans etc that you would need. The living room and dining room are spacious and comfortable with nice lighting and well equiped with FreeSat, Samsung TV and a DVD player. Plenty of choice for enterntainment. There is a selection of DVD's and books in the bookcase and plenty of tourist brochures for numerous attractions and places ot visit in the Peak District. The main bathroom is spacious and gorgeous with a huge bath, shower head and plate shower over. The master bedroom also has an ensuite with shower. Towels are provided so you don't have to worry about packing extra. There is a washing machine and drying room if you need it just off the entrance hallway with a 3rd toilet downstairs. The owner, Lucy, had left us some nice touches you don't often see. She left us teabags, coffee, milk, brioche loaf, jam and fruit to ensure we had some provisions when we arrived. There is a Sainsbury's and Lidl a few minutes away so easy to stock up for your stay. There are also some lovely pubs and restuarants on your doorstep. Recommend Simply Chinese and Casa Latina (open Fri & Sat). The railway line is mentioned but wasn't really noticed and didn't bother us at all. The walk down from the car parking just off the road is a bit of a slope but not slippery at all and is well lit with automatic lighting as you approach. Everything was spotless and clean. There are instructions on what to do when leaving due to the current Covid issues - nothing major, just leaving bedding, towels and bath mats in the laundry bags in the shed and leaving internal doors and the windows open when leaving to air out. It's nice to know that cleanliness, especially during these dificult times, is taken seriously. Lucy and David will give you a warm welcome, if not in person just yet. We will be back soon.

On arrival, we couldn’t believe our luck at having found this beautiful property at such short notice. Lucy was great, we spoke and she emailed information before we arrived, and whilst staying there she was very helpful and responsive to any questions. The barn was spotlessly clean on our arrival and we felt very safe with the additional COVID measures in place. The property is very spacious, it felt like a home rather than a holiday property, and is very tastefully and comfortably furnished. The kitchen is very well equipped with every utensil you could need. We were lucky enough to have great weather for our stay and enjoyed relaxing in the two patio areas, particularly the top one which gets the late afternoon sun, perfect for pre dinner drinks! This was our first visit to Derbyshire, we found plenty to fill our stay, enjoying some spectacular walks in the nearby Peak District, the scenery really is breathtaking. Lucy had left a list of recommended local eateries, we particularly enjoyed The Peacock at Barlow, about a 10 min drive away, and also had a very nice meal at The Blue Stoops which is just a 5 min walk. Almost forgot to mention the generous welcome pack left in the kitchen when we arrived, very thoughtful and all much enjoyed, particularly the delicious flapjacks!

I enjoyed cooking Christmas Dinner in the very well appointed kitchen and we were very cosy and comfortable in the Barn. It is tastefully decorated and a warm and relaxing place to be in. We also felt that if we had a problem, which we didn't, it would be sorted quickly. I really enjoyed cooking Christmas Dinner for our family in the very well appointed kitchen. The property

Vale Barn is a fantastic, detached barn conversion in the centre of Dronfield in Derbyshire.

The cottage cleverly combines the original fabric of the building with 21st century living, with a galleried landing which is complemented by the beautiful feature beams in the bedrooms.

With a comfortable double and twin room, the cottage provides flexible sleeping arrangements, with the use of a sofa bed in the sitting room.

The double bedroom has an en-suite shower room, there is a family bathroom and a ground floor basin and WC for extra convenience.

The spacious sitting room has an upright piano and is a fantastic space for everyone to gather together and plan the next dayÂ’s activities.

Vale Barn was once the carriage house to Vale House which was home to a family of substance who patented malleable iron.

Dronfield lies midway between the vibrant city of Sheffield and the historic market town of Chesterfield, on the outskirts of The Peak District.

Historically, the town has great significance and the Grade I listed Church of St John the Baptist is testament to this as it has stood at the centre of this community since the 12th century.

You will find all the local amenities you require in Dronfield, including The Green Dragon pub which is believed to have been established in 1547.

The Peak DistrictÂ’s varied and breathtaking landscapes are among the most beautiful in Britain.

There are activities available to keep you busy whenever you stay, with walks on the moors, cycle routes, country fairs in summer, traditional markets and a vast choice of stately homes to visit.

This cottage is in an ideal location and with so much to see and do in the area you will see yourselves coming back again and again!

About the location

DRONFIELD

Chesterfield 6 miles; Sheffield 7 miles.

Dronfield is a Derbyshire market town with a history dating back to before the 1086 Domesday Book, and has a number of 12th century buildings which are still in existence. The town has a wide range of shops, pubs, restaurants and also a modern sports centre, and is surrounded by wonderful Peak District countryside where the walks are asking to be explored.
