  • "It’s lovely and cosy and well decorated."

The projector and screen is a great touch. The only issue is the stairs - they are really hard to get up and down especially how steep they are.

Thank you for your kind review the stairs were designed by our architect being a paddle staircase to save space we over engineered the design so they have a fully fixed balustrade and hand rail for easier safe use Property Owner

  • "A unique, quaint property with a great home cinema experience featuring a projector and excellent surround sound."

The property was very clean and reasonably equipped. It is a really small property, smaller than perhaps we had expected and the stairs up to the first floor could be challenging for people who struggle with mobility. The bedroom is cosy with a very comfortable bed. Generally, the property is furnished to a high standard. The outdoor patio area gives a little more space to eat dinner and relax. Taller people might want to wear protective headwear as I hit my head about 10 times!!! The location is fantastic for exploring the area. The village of Elton benefits from a bus service (172) to Matlock and Bakewell and lots of villages in between. The Duke of York pub is about a 2 minute walk away and is an incredibly nostalgic experience giving an idea of what pubs were like before the 20th century. Go there to be sociable and enjoy the experience. The landlord Anthony was incredibly welcoming and even took us on a little tour of the original outbuildings. It opens late from 8:30pm so have your dinner before you head out. Thanks for a very memorable 4 nights in Elton and the Peak District. Notes to landlord: The walk-in shower is excellent although has been laid with no gradient so pools in the middle. Batteries in the FireStick remote need changing. Spiders and woodlice kept crawling out of the gaps in the stonework in the bathroom! Can they be filled?

About the location

WINSTER

Bakewell 6 miles; Matlock 4.5 miles.

The conservation village of Winster is situated within the White Peak area of the Peak District National Park and is an extremely pretty place, with a charming 17th century market house at its centre, and other imposing 17th and 18th century houses, many three storeys high. The three main streets - Main Street, East Bank and West Bank are interconnected by alleyways known as ‘ginnels’, which are well worth exploring. The village of Winster is famous for its Morris dancers, the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, Wakes festivities in June, and the Secret Gardens of Winster event in July. Within the village there is a well-stocked, community-owned general store incorporating a Post Office. There are two pubs, both serving food and traditional beer. Bakewell, Matlock, Chatsworth House, and the Peak Rail Steam Railway are all nearby and, for keen walkers and cyclists, The Limestone Way runs along the edge of the village. The Tissington and High Peaks walking and cycling trails, with bike hire available, both lie less than 5 miles from the village, a wonderful base for exploring the Peak District.
