  • "The cottage was very good, but we are getting on and found the toilet facilities being upstairs very awkward."

A toilet downstairs would have made the cottage ideal. .Everything else was perfect and everything else was there. We were there to relax and did not need all the cleaning instructions. The villagers were very kind and friendly, and the scenery fantastic as expected.

  • "We really liked the cottage and garden."

Lovely location and the cottage is very homely and full of character. We found it a bit short on consumables (eg 1 toilet roll for 4 people for 1 week, and no kitchen roll) but had masses of pots and pans and useful kitchen equipment. We had a lovely week and really felt at home there. Would happily go there again.

  • "This is a really nice small house in the pleasant, quiet village of Elton."

Beautifully restored. The stone utility/ coat/boot room leads into the well-equipped kitchen, which has an open doorway to the dining room, and the seperate sitting room is at the end. The open plan staircase goes up from the dining room onto a long landing, with the bathroom in the middle, the kingsize bedroom at the South end, above the sitting room, and the twin room above the kitchen. Everything was clean, and nicely decorated and furnished. There were lots of books, maps, guide books, and dvds. It was warm and cosy in February with the central heating. The parking space is very tight and a bit daunting on first sight. We have an Auris estate (about 4.5 X 1.7m) and with my wife looking out for traffic in the (quiet) lane and watching the nearside front and rear corners of the car it was actually surprisingly easy and only took a careful minute to get in or out. If you are OK with a tight supermarket parking space you should be OK here. Moving on. The village is interesting to look round. We enjoyed walking to Robin Hood's Stride and the hermit's cave. The Miners' Standard a mile away serves good food in the evening. We would certainly be happy to come back here.

The cottage has been very tastefully renovated and decorated in keeping with a period property. All cottage based amenities have been modernised, we were able relax and enjoy our vacation immediately in the cosy cottage atmosphere. The cottage was also cleaned to a high standard on arrival. As pointed out in the accommodation details parking is limited at the cottage to a single space which is narrow to navigate, however I have a large 4x4 and quickly learn't how to reverse into the space. More parking is available on Back Lane. Elton is conveniently located for walking and cycling, for picturesque and easy cycling I would recommend the Monsal and Tissington Trails. The nearest pub that is currently providing a limited outdoor menu is the Miners Standard at Winster, its about a 25 min walk. I would definitely return to Moor Lane House.

The owner was extremely helpful in providing all the relevant information needed via Email in the absence of instruction leaflets, maps, etc. that would normally be available in the cottage. The cottage is well located for visits to Bakewell, Matlock, Crich Tramway Museum and Chatsworth House. The nearest shop is in the next village (Winster) 2 miles away and for a small village shop is very well stocked, including newspapers. We do not have a dog, but we could see that they would be very well catered for with towels, blankets, outside taps and a safe, enclosed garden.

Good for dog, with outside taps (one hot) for washing muddy paws and utility room for boots and coats. Fantastic walks from the door and within short drives. Village shop and pubs in Winster, about 5 minutes drive. Parking next to the cottage is possible but you need to be aware of large tractors passing especially if you have a wide car. The house is equipped with everything you could possibly need, utensils, washing-up liquid, washing machine tablets as well as dishwasher tablets (thank you!). We all felt at home from the moment we walked through the front door which got our week away off to a fabulous start. The layout is perfect and warm and cosy on a dark winter's nights. We very much look forward to returning very soon to explore more of the area and enjoy this wonderful home again. How others haven't noticed this remains a mystery. Your cleaning team either need more time or a better idea of what they should be doing. I would expect a deep clean between rentals. Cups and plates also needed attention. The rest of the cottage was ok with the exception of toilet pedestal and some skirting. Every room had at least one bulb not working and the large quantity of room fresheners was over powering. The cottage was pretty and ample in size but the main bed and sofas were unbearably uncomfortable to the point we left early. The garden was excellent for a dog. We have been staying in cottages for over 25 years and have had some beautiful ones but not this time.

We are sorry that the cottage did not meet your expectations. We have never had anyone comment on the points you have raised. Our cleaners, in particular, usually do an excellent job and the guest book is full of praise for them. However, we appreciate that different people have different standards and we will monitor the points raised. Property Owner

Well done to the owners! Everything you might need is there - right down to the dog bowls and toys. The hot and cold outside taps were a boon when coming back with muddy paws and boots. Everything is done to a high standard throughout - a traditional stone cottage with the advantage of modern kitchen and heating and plenty of conveniently placed sockets. Wi-fi works well. A real home from home! Lots of dog walks across the fields and around the village straight from the property and a lovely enclosed garden and patio area with plentiful seating. The steps to the lawned area are quite steep and there is a drop to the patio area so care needed with young children but the garden in warmer weather would be great. Don't be put off by the warning about the off-road parking only being suitable for a medium sized car, most people would get into the drive and there is room to park on the road directly next to the cottage by parking across the drive. Additional parking is only 50 yards away. Local visits to places like Cromford canal, Chatsworth, Matlock, Bakewell etc are all within about 20 minutes drive. A walk by the river at Youlgreave not to be missed for its unspoilt beauty. This was our first stay here and we would definitely enjoy coming back again in the future. The cottage was comfortable, incredibly clean and very well equipped with everything we needed to make it a home away from home - including spare dog toys and bowls. Although we did not have children with us, we did notice that the supply of DVD's and a toy box would help entertain them. Having a relatively private and enclosed garden made it easy to take the dog and would be lovely in warmer weather, although the steps are a little steep and slippy in wet weather, so children would need supervising. There are plenty of walks nearby so it was not always necessary to take the car, and being close to Bakewell and Matlock meant we could get everywhere easily and then leave the crowds behind at the end of the day! We will definitely be coming back.

  • "Had a fantastic holiday."

Felt like our own home and none of us wanted to leave. Beautiful village and scenery. So comfortable. First thing we wanted after our journey was a cuppa and a biscuit and what do you know, there was milk in the fridge and biscuits on the site! Everything we needed was there. Instructions were clear about using stuff. I really couldn't have hoped for more. Thank you.
