  • "Firstly like to say what a lovely little cottage, and the surrounding area."

The stairs where the main objective to the entire holiday no bannister, difficult for up and down ,secondly the wood situation, as we were stopping 2weeks ,we only got I would say 2hrs burning of wood, thirdly the bed became very uncomfortable, there was rubbish left in the bin from the week before ,and at the end we hoovered the whole cottage

A visit to Chatsworth House is a must, and Bakewell is quaint and make sure you try the Bakewell pudding.Castleton is also a beautiful place to visit. As Mentioned in previous reviews the stairs are a but steep and no banister at top so if your mobility isn't great like mine it may be tricky, adding a rope banister or a small one at top of stairs would help .Also we found a few cleaning issues that need addressing like very stained mugs, dirty utensils, and greasy dusty pot that they were in, dirty freezer draws, and lots of hairs in the bath but this didn't spoil our stay and we would return.Just a little bit more attention to detail would make a difference. • "An extremely comfortable cottage, with a lot of things provided and in a very good position."

The only (slight) negative concerns the stairs. For an older person they are a little steep and anyone above average height should mind their head! My wife and I are both in our 70's and coped ok, but they could be an issue for others. Overall, it is certainly recommended. We would rate the cottage 9/10.

The sitting room is a very comfortable space to look at the many useful guidebooks to walks etc in the area provided by the owner. The kitchen is larger than I expected from the photos, and is a lovely bright space lit by Velux windows. Good large fridge/freezer. Super impressed at the high quality of everything provided - Stellar pans, Dualit kettle, Rosenthal knives, Denby china etc. Everything has been thought of - handy guide to oven temperature equivalents, box of wires for charging tech items in case you forgot to bring the right one, small torch in bedroom etc Bed is king size and comfortable and nicely appointed bathroom complete with Christy towels. Cottage is situated in a dead end and is blissfully quiet yet easy walking distance to the sights and amenities of the village and great walks from the door. Parking for free in the road on a first come first served basis and we never had a problem getting a spot. Despite being there in August, the unseasonably cold weather meant I can confirm that the heating works well :-) Highly recommended for a couple and I hope to return.

I rang the phone numbers on your paperwork, everyone went to voicemail, nobody came back until 8.00pm. I feel someone should be around, I understand the man who cleans, his car was parked across from the cottage when I rang those numbers but gave no help. About the location

EYAM

Bakewell 7 miles; Tideswell 5 miles.

Eyam is one of the best-preserved villages in the Peak District National Park, nestled at the foot of Sir William Hill, 800ft above sea level and is surrounded by the most glorious countryside. Historically the village is known as the famous 'plague village', as it went into voluntary quarantine when the plague was imported from London in 1665 and thus prevented the spread of the disease. There are many fine old houses in Eyam, and parts of the village have been kept as they looked several centuries ago, such as Eyam Hall, a beautiful 17th century manor house with delightful gardens, craft shops and tea rooms. Above the village lies Eyam Moor, a fine area for walking, with fantastic views across the Derwent Valley, with its many Bronze Age remains and monuments. Visit Bakewell (7 miles) a picturesque market town which holds a livestock market every Monday and the home of the world famous Bakewell Pudding. Explore the mysterious caverns of Castleton, the elegant spa town of Buxton or enjoy the many stately homes on offer including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall, to mention a few. With Alton Towers, Britain's premier theme park, only a short drive away, this is an ideal base for all the family.
