  • "Absolutely brilliant cottage."

Exceptional clean, comfortable, with more than required as far as equipment is concerned. Fantastic location which enabled us to visit Derbyshire - Chatsworth 2.5 miles: Bakewell 3 miles : Matlock 3.5miles and it was in walking distance of Rowsley itself. Josephine was extremely welcoming and very helpful. Would more than recommend this cottage.

  • "Really enjoyable stay, in a perfectly located property."

The accommodation is well equipped and worked well for our family of 4. The owners were a pleasure to speak with, and helpful. The cottage is across the road from Peak Village which has a good restaurant and an amazing ice cream shop. Various pubs within a short walk. Chatsworth and Bakewell are only a couple of miles from the cottage, and as a base for exploring Derbyshire and the Peaks, it’s great.

  • "Old Farm House is an absolute delight, nestled in some truly stunning countryside with all the facilities you’d expect to make your stay comfortable."

The hosts couldn’t do enough to help, even bringing over fresh eggs for us! No question or request was too small and they happily shared their beautiful garden with us (an extra space alongside the private garden of the cottage). I would absolutely recommend and will definitely be returning - the location was perfect and within easy reach of most of the main attractions, but felt peaceful enough that you felt you’ve had a break from busy city life. Thanks again!

  • "We phoned the owner two days before our arrival, as requested."

The key was supposed to be in the lock but it wasn't and nobody was around. We finally called the office after trying the owners' mobile and landline numbers several times. We were disappointed with the bathrooms - the ensuite shower was full of mould and we could not bring ourselves to use it. The downstairs bathroom was cold and the water would not run away easily in the washbasin. Finally, we were at the property during the lockdown week and thought that we had to vacate the property before the beginning of lockdown. It would have been nice if Sykes had sent us an email making us aware that we were allowed to stay to the end of our holiday. The owner didn't mention this either and we lost two days of our holiday. All in all, we found the property and the service from Sykes to be somewhat lacking.

Thank you for your feedback, we are very sorry you have experienced these issues during your stay. During lock down we have taken the time to fully refurbish the showers including re-tiling and fitting replacement shower units. We have also replaced our existing housekeepers with a new housekeeping team. These issues have now been resolved and we hope to see you again in future. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay at Old Farm House at the end of August."

The cottage was really clean, well equipped, cosy and quiet. The owners were very welcoming and it was clear they had gone to a lot of effort to make us feel safe and comfortable in the current climate. Having plenty of hand wash and toilet rolls to keep us going was also an unexpected and nice surprise! Our children had a great time on the trampoline and enjoyed seeing the roaming chickens and feeding the resident sheep! The only issue for me was that the double bed was a little on the hard side, but that’s a minor niggle. We had to use the car more than if we’d been in a town, since the cottage was between Matlock and Bakewell, but it didn’t put us off. It was a great base to travel to all areas of the Peak District and we’d definitely consider booking again. Thank you for a lovely holiday!

The house was clean cosy and comfy with a nice kitchen and bathrooms. It was so handy being able to walk to the bar/restaurant and shopping village which even had an indoor soft play for the kids.. There was much more to do in the area than we had imagined and couldn't fit in all the local attractions in just one week. I couldn't fault anything with this holiday. The owners were lovely and if we visit the area again I would re-book this house.

This little village has many attractions, including Caldwell's Mill which houses the last water-powered roller flour mill and a range of craft workshops, shops and a restaurant, Peak Rail, which is a rail enthusiasts dream with rides along the valley, and the Peak Village which has many outlet shops with bargains galore together with feature attractions, a fitness centre and an old fashioned sweet shop and ice cream parlour. Rowsley offers a range of village amenities including shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants, excellent fly fishing facilities (day tickets available from the historic Peacock Hotel) and neighbouring the village is the superb Michelin-starred East Lodge Hotel and Restaurant. The village is also a hub for walkers and cyclists with many picturesque Peak District trails being accessible including the Derwent Valley cycle way, the Monsal Trail and the Rowsley Bar Hill Climb.
