  • "Absolutely beautiful property, tucked away and private."

my boyfriend and i stayed 5 nights and it was delightful. my only negative point would be the access to parking. it is nowhere listed in the property description how simply treacherous the driveway is and no images either (as far as i can see, so at least not easily viewable). i was warned of this by the property owner only on the day of arrival when i requested information on the key collection process. unless you take extreme caution to reverse (there is absolutely nowhere to even think about turning around once outside the cottage) the entire way down the 85m driveway (according to google maps) with *extreme* caution you will end up hitting a brick wall or a neighbours car, as they are parked along both sides of the drive at different points with extremely little to no wiggle room. it made arriving at the cottage seem like an impossible chore. however i am only noting this to let future renters aware if they are even slightly nervous drivers or fancy being able to get straight into bed after a long day holiday-ing. my boyfriend that has been driving 7 years dreaded the arrive home for this reason every day. otherwise the location is fantastic, only a 20 minute drive from alton towers where we spent three days in all, local eateries of different price ranges in even walking distance which were recommended to me by the property owner too:) we truly did enjoy our stay at lucky cottage the bed was so comfortable and the decorations so cozy, would 100% recommend to couples or older families as a lot of the decor was vintage and made me anxious of breakages (but that could also just be me).

Thank you for your lovely feedback, and we're delighted that you enjoyed our beautiful little cottage. I'm so sorry that you found the parking difficult. The private lane down to the cottages is fairly narrow, and because most people choose to park directly outside their property, it can make the lane more snug. However, there is a turning point half way down the lane - between the two blocks of cottages - which means you don't have to reverse all the way back. For customers who don't feel 100% confident, we do recommend that they leave their car on the roadway instead. Thank you again for the lovely feedback, and we'd welcome you back any time to enjoy the place again. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely week in Lucky Cottage, exploring the area."

The cottage is beautifully decorated, extremely well-equipped, warm and cosy. We loved the spacious kitchen/diner, the cosy living room with log burner and wonderful view of the garden and the woods and valley beyond. The only negatives for us were purely personal: not being fans of reversing, we found the parking outside the cottage a bit tight (and were glad to have arrived in daylight!) and for a couple of days or so there was limited space on the roadside, which became our preferred parking choice. We also would have appreciated a lighter duvet option for a mild October. Despite that, we would certainly recommend Lucky Cottage to others. The cottage is ideally placed, beautiful scenery and lots to do within 30 mins drive in any direction, as well as walks from the door.

Thank you for your lovely positive feedback - we're delighted that you enjoyed our little cottage. I'm so sorry to hear that you found the parking space a bit tight. The private lane down to the cottages is fairly narrow, and it does require some confident reversing! However, there is usually space on the roadside for those guests who prefer to leave their car there for ease. Thank you for letting us know about your preference for a lighter duvet for autumn - we've taken note and will supply another option for milder nights. We do hope to welcome you back here again. • "Lucky Cottage is a mid Victorian terraced property in a quiet and relaxing location."

The rear of the property overlooks a wooded valley which can be viewed and enjoyed from both inside and outside. The rear garden is well cared for and is a lovely area to have breakfast or pre-dinner drinks (weather permitting). Internally, the cottage is decorated and furnished to a high standard, and had all facilities and equipment we could need for our 4 night stay. It was spotlessly clean and tidy, spacious and comfortable. The owner has carefully chosen fittings and decoration to complement the age of the property, making it feel you are transported back to an earlier age, but with modern appliances. Not having stayed in this area previously, we were impressed with the interesting variety of places to visit locally; Churnet Valley Railway and the Caldon Canal, for example, and there are plenty of walks from your doorstep. Lucky Cottage is a great place to stay. We really enjoyed it's originality, comfort and space, combined with it's quiet, off-the-beaten-track location. Thank you, Anna.

What lovely feedback to receive, Richard - thank you so much for your kind comments. It's always most welcome when we hear that people have enjoyed our little cottage...we try our best to make it a 'home from home'. We do look forward to seeing you back here again soon. Property Owner

Top quality bed linen, all beautifully laundered. Pretty garden, lovely spot to sit outside. Parking a bit tight but really not a problem and there is the option to park on the roadside if you prefer. Good pub a few minutes walk.

Thank you for your kind feedback. We work hard to keep the cottage clean and a real 'home from home', so we're delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you for being an excellent guest. Property Owner

Great views from the back. Excellent pub/restaurant a few minutes away in the village. Very handily located for walks in the Churnet Valley or visits (e.g. Potteries Museum in Stoke). A wonderful stay. The parking is mentioned and the space was always available but may require some narrow reversing along the lane.

Thank you for your lovely feedback! We're delighted that you love our little cottage. It's a tiny gem in a beautiful part of Staffordshire that we're proud to call home. Glad you enjoyed your time with us. Property Owner

Wonderful, peaceful location, a real home from home. An absolute delight, we were sorry to leave. We would happily have stayed there for a month. I cant recommend this cottage enough. Parking is absolutely no problem, plenty of room for one car, if you take 2 vehicles one will need to stay at the top of the lane. If you want a relaxing peaceful holiday, in a beautiful location, this is it. John and Tessa

  • "We booked this cottage last minute as Covid restrictions allowed us to travel, so glad we did (not just the break to get away) but the quality of the accommodation when we arrived was amazing, a lot of thought has been put into the furnishings and decor, it was very much appreciated and enjoyed."

The kitchen was a dream to cook and eat in (everything you would ever need, right down to locally produced china-ware). Fantastic part of the countryside, we had good weather but if it was raining we would of been just as happy staying in the property. House is extremely well insulated, stays warm inside with heating off during the cold nights (I wanted to light the fire, but it was too warm to do so). Parking is on a narrow cul-de-sac for the cottages, manageable with a small car and with plenty of parking approx 50-70m away. I can heartily recommend this place.

How lovely to receive such positive feedback! Thank you. We really do appreciate hearing from guests when they've had a lovey time in our little 'home from home'. Please do come back and stay any time - the cottage will be happy to have you back. Property Owner

Almost holding your breath to reverse back and to come in and out the property. Lovely neighbours, we unfortunately scratched one of the neighbours car and this was very slowly reversing back to the lane. They've agreed for us to mend it and we offered a bottle of wine to say thank.you. Otherwise, very nice and comfortable stay.

After traveling 7 hours in a small suv on arrival I was disappointed in the access to cottage via a steep hill and narrow access to parking with very restrictive turning the cottage was well equipped but lacked basic necessities as it would have been nice to have a pint of milk in the fridge to go with the selections of teas and coffee also we had no hot water messaged and rang the owner several times but she did not reply till the following morning after having to go next door to her mothers where she was staying we had planned to attend events on most days during the week the first morning we were going to Ashbourne show so we were delayed The rest of the holiday was great

Thank you for your feedback after your stay at Lucky Cottage. I’m so sorry that you found the private road a bit steep and narrow for the SUV. The cottage overlooks a stunning valley, and as I explain in the information text I send to all guests, some people find the lane down to it a little narrow so prefer to leave their car on the road instead. I was incredibly disappointed to hear that my boiler had lost pressure on the night you arrived – it’s ‘one of those things’ that is very frustrating for both guests and owner. I received your message by 9am and immediately called a plumber, who came out to you within 20 minutes. The pressure was topped up and hot water restored straight away. I spoke to you personally to apologise for any inconvenience that may have been caused that day. Most guests love Lucky Cottage and consider it great value for money, I’m disappointed that on this occasion you may not have felt the same way. Property Owner
