    “Fantastic and comfortable holiday home”

We had a lovely holiday at this cottage. It was all we needed, and more, for a relaxing family break with three young children. The garden was a calm oasis to read and look out over the valley. We took walks along the canal and visited the Steam Railway. It's an excellent base to visit the Peak District, Alton Towers, Staffordshire and surrounding areas. The car access to the cottage is certainly challenging but given it's location it seemed fairly normal! We'd definitely visit again.

About the location

FROGHALL

Ashbourne 11 miles; Leek 8 miles.

Froghall lies in the beautiful wooded slopes of the Churnet Valley, in the Staffordshire Moorlands and on the southern fringe of the Peak District. The hamlet has a pub, which serves food, and the nearby hamlet of Foxt also has a pub serving good food, whilst the nearby village of Ipstones has a village shop/Post Office and two pubs. It’s an excellent base for a holiday, with a vast selection of walks for all abilities on the doorstep, plus there is an excellent golf course in Whiston, which is just a five minute drive away and there are four other courses within a 25 minute drive. There are also fascinating relics of the area’s industrial heritage - the Caldon canal (built in 1776 and restored and opened for navigation in 1974) runs through the valley and visitors will enjoy a scenic ride on the Churnet Valley Railway steam trains. A great touring base for exploring all of the Peak District and the Staffordshire Moorlands – Alton Towers is just a 10 minute drive away and the nearby Potteries are well worth a visit.
