  • "We had a pleasant stay."

The rooms were all very comfortable, lovely sitting room and great sized dining table. We enjoyed the welcome basket for humans and dog! Although we noted the accessibility comments and are used to steep inclines, we weren't expecting it to be quite such a steep climb up to the cottage, which could be an issue for some visitors. Lots to do and in the area.

  • "I felt the property was tidy but maybe a few tweaks are needed We had only two towels and no bath mat I had to find one."

The bedrooms and lounge were lovely and relaxing (Though the tv has limited channels if you wanna watch tv) I do feel the bathroom and kitchen are a little tired but still functional. It’s a gorgeous property just needs some tlc

Many thanks for your feedback and we do take on board your comments. The property is very much loved and every year there are many things we endeavour to replace and renew. Carpets being the latest. The Kitchen was revamped 4 years ago and the bathroom suite is of the highest quality, possible the tiling isn't to your taste but we appreciate you comments. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you can return soon. Property Owner

  • "Did not enjoy this cottage, so full of bits and pieces, very dark and cramped - pictures made it look open and light."

Access was alot steeper than the description + turning a vehicle around with lots of cars parked would be challenging with a big car.

I am so sorry you didn’t enjoy Hog Cottage and you felt it was cluttered and dark. The cottage is over 300 years old and we equip and decorate it in accordance with its age and character and we describe it as a home from home and is extremely well equipped, so its a shame you didn’t enjoy its ambiance especially the very generous and grand dining room. We do make it very clear in the description about the access road and it does state that you would need to reverse your car down the lane if you are able to get up to the Cottage. Most people choose to off load at the corner along with deliveries and trades men and if you park near the mill you can easily turn the car round, whatever the size, using the turning up to the hill. • "Totally enjoyed our stay we needed some r and r and we got it ,very well equipped big comfy chairs and sofa the dining room was lovely there was also a lovely basket of goodies for us and our 4 legged friend , parking a bit of a challenge if you want to go up to the cottage but it can be done I just wasn’t confident enough but my son took both up to reload our belongings."

The views and walks right on the doorstep were very scenic Wirksworth is very friendly and close to all the local attractions. We would definitely come back .

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Hog Cottage. It is a very special cottage with lots of character and we like to make it as welcoming as possible. Yes parking can be a challenge but the trip up the hill is well worth the views and like you say the walks from the front door are spectacular. Looking forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

Great location and plenty to do in the area. Good for dogs with enclosed rear patio and low fencing and gate to the front. Would be happy to stay again and recommend to others.
