“It was an idyllic spot in a cottage full of character for the two of us during our 5-night stay and the directions ensured you went there on the right stretch of lane.”

The bird feeders provided terrific interest but ran out after 3 days so a top-up supply would have been useful. Kitchen gear well-supplied except for matching wine-glasses (we left a note about this). On our one wet day, it made a cosy place in which to hunker down. The lanes were fine for walking on as well as field footpaths which were (unsurprisingly) soggy in autumn. ...

There was insufficient mention in the description of the low headroom upstairs (doorways). The bedroom we chose to use had no blind on the small window - this didn't matter in October but might well in the summer. The other slightly larger bedroom had a mattress that looked in need of replacing (soft/saggy). A review mentioned this in June but obviously not acted upon. The 54" TV was an asset but there were no instructions on how to alter the sound - it was set up to use the soundbar in a way that was fine for action films etc. but not for plain TV (news etc). We figured it out though - you use the relevant Viera TV app. Although we might have preferred more upstairs space including more convenient bedroom storage, we were pleased to have found this gem.

The property

The property, This beautiful cottage, formerly a chapel, was built 150 years ago in the village of Ashleyhay adjacent to the charming market town of Wirksworth, a magnificent village setting with many places of architectural interest.

Whilst original features grace the interior, subtle hints of modern living have been introduced to bring you the best of both worlds.

Whether you are planning a romantic getaway for two, or a sightseeing adventure with friends, this is a charming place to return to day after day.

Downstairs you will discover a fabulous entrance hall and a lovely sitting room, perfect for some time away from it all.

Exposed beams oversee the room, there is even an original chapel window which off-sets the layout wholeheartedly.

The farmhouse kitchen oozes nothing less than charm and the dining table is perfectly situated for some birdwatching, as you enjoy a warm cup of tea in the early hours.

Upstairs, the views are breath-taking, with far-stretching countryside sweeping by outside the windows, providing a stunning backdrop to wake up to.

A family bathroom is beautifully presented with a freestanding bath and a separate shower.

An office area completes the interior.

The cottage features an outdoor seating area and patio space with table and chairs bringing you at one with the location.

Wirksworth is an easy place to fall in love with and has a reputation for inspiring creativity, luring artists and designers.
