  • "We had a lovely family weekend at The Old Hay Barn."

The barn was beautiful, comfortable and very well equipped. There was a lovely welcome pack including wine, popcorn, swiss roll, a cheese board with crackers and dog treats. Set in beautiful countryside with lovely outside area. We arranged to meet the owners alpacas which my grandchildren loved. Would definitely recommend.

  • "I think we booked through an affiliate of Sykes rather than Sykes directly."

We had booked for two dogs, and that hadn't filtered through to owners on arrival. Not that it mattered as owner was wonderfully accommodating, also original site showed hot tub, but from correspondence on booking confirmation from sykes we could see there wasn't one. Owner says this happens regularly, so suggest all affiliate link signs are updated Again, wasn't looking for hot tub ourselves so not overly bothered. Other than that the accomodation was high standard, beautifully clean, very comfortable and was just a lovely stay. Would definitely stay again

  • "Lovely cottage, all good apart from showering and bathing facilities, loss of water pressure when additional tap, D/W, or anything requiring water is not great."

This didn’t detract from a lovely week but would put me off returning.

Thank you for your feedback and glad you had a lovely stay. We're sorry for the loss of water pressure when using several outlets at once and wish you had informed us at the time so we could have looked into it for you. On arrival we mentioned should you have any issues during your stay to let us know. We also double checked everything was OK for you in the property when you helped feed the alpacas the following morning and were told everything was great! If we had known we would have done our absolute best to resolve it for you. We do hope you will return at some point in the future. Property Owner

The owners are very welcoming and friendly, with good communication before and during the stay (when needed). It was a good size, in great condition and the children loved watching the animals in the fields behind the garden. It was kitted out well and thoughtfully for families and our dog. The only thing was the dishwasher was a little small for a full house, but not really a problem. Thanks for a lovely stay!

  • "Hi This is the cleanest and nicest property I have ever rented."

The owners who live next door were a delight too. The welcome pack was also better than anything I've had left for us by any other cottage too and included prosecco, cake, biscuits, cheese, a laminated map and there was a banner and balloons for my birthday celebration too. There was all of the condiments that many cottages don't leave (ketchup, mayo, HP, salt, pepper etc), plus in the bathrooms there was shampoo, conditioner, soap, and plenty of toilet rolls too. There is a very generous log pack with fire lighters too for the log burner, plenty for a few nights of burning. You can buy home grown veg and also duck and hen eggs next door too, but get in early as the locals will buy them all else. Meeting and feeding the Alpacas was excellent. The barn is set in an easy to get to location that was just far enough from the main roads to feel secluded, with more horses passing by than cars. The views from the firepit / BBQ area were sublime and if you take the 4 mile circular walk around the cottage you can look down on the cottage too in all it's glory. Its only short walk down to the village to the local pub that serves really tasty food but in tiny portions that will leave most still hungry unless you order the prawn cocktail and duck which seemed to be about right in size! Handy location for Holmfirth. Stunning scenery. We had a great time. - Thanks.

  • "We arrived to be welcomed by the host who was very friendly and had already packed our supermarket delivery."

We were given a quick “need to know” tour and all the other relevant information was emailed a week before our arrival and a copy found in the property. Staying with friends, we both had an infant which meant we still had to take a second travel cot due to the property having one. Absolutely fine, but just something to be mindful of. Other handy item was a stair-gate which was useful, although the properly does have some beautiful quirks of several stairs to different parts of the house so another stair-gate would probably be useful. Our dogs were very well catered for. There was bowls, beds and poo dogs provided. Although not used by us, there is also a crate in the dog room. The garden has recently been secured so suitable for well behaved dogs. The bedrooms were all very comfortable with nice clean bedding. The house overall smelt clean and was fresh and tidy. The house was equipped with everything you’d need. There were some lovely gestures provided such as beer, milk, a cheese board and cake. The property is in a beautiful location, with walls from the house. I’d recommend leaving the property turning left, walking to Hepworth, left again and turning left to join the footpath. This takes you along the river and through the woods. Local bylaws do not allow your dog off the lead on roads and lanes. There’s much to see and do locally with some great pubs and restaurants in Holmfirth. Overall a great stay at a nice place.

  • "The Old Hay Barn is a beautifullly presented and well equipped, comfortable cottage in a lovely location, looking out over the wonderful alpacas and goats."

Amanda and Darren are very friendly hosts, happy to arrange goat walking and alpaca feeding sessions, and sell beautiful fresh eggs. The electric charge point for the car worked well, and is accessed via bookings using the CoCharger app. At present finding the charger on the app requires searching at the distance from your home postcode. Note that there are quite alot of fairly steep steps and stairs, both outside and inside the cottage, and the more elderly members of our party and those with balance issues did find these difficult, and also needed more handrails. The twin room has a double height step leading up to it, which may not suit everyone. But despite the low and sloping ceiling our 5ft 10 adult son was absolutely fine having this room. The dining chairs are very interesting and made from lovely peices of wood, but are very heavy, so again our elderly guests found them fairly tricky to use.
