It was really well equipped with many thoughtful touches. We particularly liked the outdoor space and spent many hours sitting outside watching and listening to the birds. The cottage was in an ideal location. There was plenty to do nearby. It was also nice to be able to set off for lovely walks and pub lunches straight from the door ( leaving the car behind sometimes was a real plus!) The owner, Kate, was friendly and helpful and the information provided in the cottage was excellent. We had a wonderful week at Green Farm Stables and would love to return!

The accommodation was clean and tidy, well furnished and appointed with some interesting pictures and other items. The owners , Kate and Adrian were very friendly and accommodating to our needs as we were not visiting on holiday but to see a very sick relative. They made our stay a lot easier. The best pub we visiting in the vicinity ( 6 miles) was the Tiger Head at Turnditch? Very nice food.

  • "Excellent space."

Comfortable beds. Good facilities in the kitchen area. Very clean when we arrived. Hosts were very welcoming. The living room furniture is a bit dated and not the most comfortable. Also one of the bedrooms upstairs has a mezzanine floor (which we didn't realise but can't be accessed) that has windows with no curtains so is very light, especially for young children to sleep in. But otherwise we had a wonderful stay and the location was fantastic.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We note your comments about the light bedroom, and are planning to address that, although it's not quite as straightforward as you might think. Also with respect to the living room furniture, we have already been looking for suitable sofas that look good, but can also take some wear and tear. So we hope to address that soon as well. We are very pleased you had a wonderful stay, and we do hope you come again. Thankyou, Kate and Adrian Property Owner

plenty of space, and beautiful inside with all the facilities one could need. particularly liked the large kitchen with big dining table and the outside areas and lovely gardens. A very minor detail but would have been good to have a washing up cloth or sponge as we didn't think to bring one. Would have been great if one of the double rooms was a twin rather than a double but appreciate each group has slightly different needs. we also knew this would be the case when we booked and we really enjoyed our stay - thanks.

Wonderfully furnished and equipped it's 'home from home'. Adrian and Kate are great hosts, friendly and approachable. Four generations of our family spent a great long weekend there and the house met all our needs. Only one thing - although there is a ground floor bedroom there is no accessible bathroom for a disabled guest. Kate said this would be remedied for next year. Very clean and well equipped with friendly welcoming hosts, we all enjoyed our stay, thank you. The only improvement we would suggest, to accommodate a group of 8 adults like ourselves, would be to the layout and furniture in the living room; the kitchen/dining area was very good. However, we would prefer not to book cottages through Sykes in the future.

Hello, thank you for your feedback. We completely agree about the layout of the lounge, and have been pondering for a while what to do about it! We've now moved the furniture around, and have created a much more sociable area, which actually makes the room feel bigger. Why didn't we think of it before? The new photos are on the Sykes website. On arrival, the owners were on hard to say hello but not intrusive. Very friendly and welcoming from the outset. Fantastic property with so many good points it's hard to list them all. If you're going with children, the bedrooms are spacious and well furnished. The kitchen and living areas are well stocked and provide everything for a comfortable stay. We were two families of 4 and didn't feel cramped at all. The outside space is great for mini adventures with local farmyard animals on hand to give children a taste of country life. Nearby there are activities and sites to see which would fill 10 weeks of holidays, we spent a lot of time at Carsington Water. Watersports, cycling, shops, great park, nice restaurant and lovely ice cream. Also a stones through from Chatswood House - great for walks, afternoon tea, adventure playground and farmyard. Kedleston Hall, picturesque walks with children's activities and nature guides. Dovedale and Thorpe Cloud, amazing walks and good for children. Bakewell - beautiful and obviously pretty good tarts. We had a fantastic time at Green Farm Stables, our days were jam packed and it was great to head back to such a welcoming property. We are already talking about returning and planning where we want to visit next.

The cottage was well-equipped and very comfortable as well as being pretty and spacious. We did manage to get 11 round the kitchen table for a celebration meal. The only slight issue was that the main shower was a little small for my tall son as it had a quirky sloping ceiling, but that is part of the character of the building. About the location

HOGNASTON

Ashbourne 6 miles; Matlock 9 miles.

Hognaston is a peaceful village on the southern fringes of the Peak District. Hognaston is an ancient settlement and has a long and diverse history, but is now better known as being close to Carsington Reservoir. The village has two cosy pubs, a Norman church, a village hall and a range of community groups. Just 6 miles away is the market town of Ashbourne with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In its heyday in the 18th century, the town was a fashionable social centre and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters - but don't expect a bargain!
