But less well pleased with the resident dogs,we had our 2dogs with us,a sausage and a shtz zue,on 3 occasions the resident dogs ran up to the glass door and where jumping up the door growling and showing there teeth, not a normal thing to expect, twice while we were sat out the back the dogs came running and barking at the fence to try and get to us on the other side, the last encounter with the dogs attacking the front door was Tuesday t time if we hadn't had a local appointment pre booked on the wednesday we would have left the place,we packed up on thursday, sorry all I can say is avoid the place,it's not safe,

  • "I booked this cottage as I needed a peaceful retreat for a few days."

This was perfect. The owners live onsite however they showed courtesy to my privacy and we chatted occasionally when we met in the garden. Their two dogs were friendly and not at all bothersome. My dog loved being in the garden and enjoyed meeting their dogs also. The property is very well equipped and very comfortable. The bottle of wine and biscuits were very welcome on arrival. The views are amazing and I enjoyed sitting and just taking in the surroundings. Enjoyed the beautiful garden very much. The days were very warm so I spent more time in thr property than put exploring the area as my dog would have struggled. However we did walk everyday in thr local area. Lots of wooded areas and reservoirs nearby. All in all the stay was perfect for my needs and highly recommended for a single or couple.

Thankyou for the great feedback. It was lovely to meet you and your dog, who was so friendly and my dogs adored her. thankyou for leaving the property clean and tidy. We hope to see you again in the future. Diane & Richard Property Owner

  • "Very nice. Bigger than I thought as being listed as open plan and photos."

Photos didn’t do it justice. For some reason I thought kitchen would also ne an area in the open plan set up. It wasn’t ...... we arrived and opened the door to a whole dressing room storage area, big shower room and fab kitchen with a full size fridge and freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. We’re no detergent tablets but then I don’t do washing on holiday. Shower was powerful and great and I say this as a bath person. Netflix was great..... WiFi you needed to be in certain areas of the accommodation to get the best reception... the area joined to the owners. We cooked every night, didn’t eat out locally although there are pub/restaurants very near. Didn’t see much of the owners adjoining, lots of people would like that, just a couple of chats .... we would have liked a little more contact but they are there if you need them and very nice people.

However, I felt inundated with emails from Sykes Cottages, many of which were of no interest to me. The check out time of 10am is too early for me and so I left the day before. A check out time of 12noon is preferable and more usual in my experience.

We had not come prepared with bread or butter so could not even do a round of toast for the next days breakfast. Also the ‘house rules’ laminate had missed the last letter of the WiFi password, making it impossible to log on until we found the correct version in the visitors book. There is also a ‘no visitors’ rule which we found disappointing as we have family in the area who would have loved to come over for a meal. We have stayed in lots of other holiday homes in the area and have never before encountered this problem.
