  • "The cottage was perfect and there was lots of outside space for the two dogs."

Views were stunning. The owners could not do more to help us and the cafe served lovely home cooked food.

  • "His cottage was supposed to be Child friendly."

After giving children's ages, 5 yrs,4yrs and 9months in the form, a travel cot that was a play pen was supplied. No stair gates available, where upon 5yr old child fell down the stairs was a big disappointment. No wifi during the whole period. Owners were quite rude and not really interested or helpful. We have used Sykes Cottages for many years now, but after making a phone call complaint and the lack of help and response from the person on the phone, this will be the last time.

It was well placed to visit local sights and lovely to come home to at the end of a busy day. The ladies at the farm shop/ cafe couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. Kaths ' cakes are amazing - the pastry just melts in your mouth! And being able to order your meal from the cafe and have it delivered to the cottage was such a treat! We will definitely be coming back. X

Ideally situated to explore Matlock, Bakewell, Chatsworth, the Monsal and Tissington Trails etc. The weather was fine all week so we were out walking each day. The owners cafe by the cottage served lovely home cooked food which we visited on numerous occasions, having full breakfasts, breakfast cobs, snacks and Sunday roast. Would certainly book again. • "Spacious property within reach of Peak District."

Quiet location but overlooked by farm shop and cafe which are only a few yards away. Property was mainly clean but on arrival we removed several completely overpowering air fresheners; then realised they had been masking a strong smell of dog throughout the ground floor. We mainly had to use the kitchen rather than the sitting room because the sofas gave off a unpleasant doggy odour. Some kitchen equipment had been put away unwashed by previous occupants (pans, cheese grater). No dishwasher. No freezer or freezer compartment in fridge so unable to freeze our coldpacks. No cafetiere or coffee filter. We only stayed a weekend so put up with this, but would not have been comfortable for a whole week and would have asked for the sitting room and sofas to be deep cleaned.

  • "The property was very nice and clean."

The owners left milk, tea bags coffee and cake for us on arrival. The sofa's and cushions could do with replacing as not very comfortable. A lock on the bathroom door would have been nice. Beds were comfortable and lovely view over the field of cows. The house did smell of dogs which they tried to cover up with plug in air freshners. I took a dog but he does not smell as I know some do. This is very difficult I know as we are lucky to be able to take our furry friends with us. Overall the place was very nice and would stay again.

We really enjoyed our short break here. Very central for visiting attractions in the local area. Kath and her husband are great hosts, always on hand if needed. The little farm shop has lots of fresh farm produce. The little cafe on site has the most amazing comfort food, including the best full English breakfasts and Sunday roasts. All the staff were pleasant and were always asking if we were enjoying our stay. This cottage is also very dog friendly. There was a small dog bed, food and water bowls, dried dog food and lots of dog treats for our rwo dogs. When we arrived we also had everything on site that we needed for a hot drink after our journey - coffee, tea, sugar, a pint of milk and best of all a Homemade Bakewell cake. Couldn't have asked for a better place to have a well needed relaxing break. Xx
