    Finished to a high standard and very cosy and comfortable. Furniture and beds were extremely comfortable and it was toasty warm. Perfect!

  • "My wife and I have just had a fantastic week long break at The Retreat."

    I honestly don't have enough superlatives to discribe it but I'll try. The accommodation is a real home from home and has everything you need for your stay. The photos don't do it justice so you won't be disappointed. Philippa is a perfect host so warm and welcoming but never intrusive. You can tell she cares that you enjoy your stay, leaving home made cake, eggs from the farm and even milk in the fridge. The icing on the cake is meeting Larry and friends (the pet sheep) in the field nextdoor. It's just been idilic. The location is also great as there is many things so do and see from gentle walks and stately homes to adrenaline fuled Alton Towers. So something for everyone. We will definitely be back

  • "Tastefully furnished and well equipped, the Retreat is an ideal base to explore the southern half of the Peak District from."

    The owner lives in the same farm complex and is very welcoming, helpful and always on hand were you to need her. You shouldn't, as everything is very well maintained, in excellent condition and there is a comprehensive house folder. The outdoor area is large and well furnished too. Above all else it is dog proof! If it was very wet, drying clothes could be a slight challenge as there is no dryer, but there is a large airer. Other than that we were delighted with the Retreat, which is tranquil and comfortable. We would definitely re-book if we were back in the area. The Red Lion in Hollington is an easy walk, dog friendly and does a stunning list of tasty pies amongst it's menu!

  • "The Retreat is a perfect little bolt hole and great for a couple with a dog."

    The accommodation is well furnished, and the decor is fresh and modern. We liked it a lot and had a very happy stay there. There's quite a bit to do and see within the local area. There are some nice walks locally, and truly beautiful walks are just a very short drive away. There are really great places to eat out nearby and most of them are dog friendly too. We've thoroughly enjoyed a restful and peaceful week at The Retreat.

About the location

HOLLINGTON, DERBYSHIRE

Ashbourne 6 miles.

Steeped in history and situated at the southern end of the Peak District, the lovely village of Hollington, mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, provides home to a scattering of traditional brick built cottages, old farmhouses and barn conversions, whilst being surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside and offering a number of country pubs renowned locally for excellent service and fine cuisine. Nearby Ashbourne is the perfect example of an English market town, boasting an eccentric street plan, narrow, cobbled alleys, old market stalls and many fine coaching inns. In its heyday, during the 18th century, the town was a fashionable social centre and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer with a good selection of restaurants, whilst being regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters - but don't expect a bargain! For those who prefer outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by offering good walking and cycling, whilst Alton Towers is just 25 minutes away!
