  • "Absolutely wonderful property."

Certainly one of the best we have stayed in. We would love to return at some future date but as the property is going to be extended it will probably cost too much in the future. Perhaps offering a two-person discount is an idea. The only criticism I would make is it would be nice to have a dvd player for those winter evenings - you can pick them up for £20 at Argos so it would be handy. The property was very comfortable and in an excellent location, which was just as well as the weather was awful.

  • "This property was outstanding we had such an Amazing week here."

Close to good days out tthere’s also a lots of footpaths near by for walks. Scenery surrounding the property was absolutely beautiful. The owner was very accommodating when I requested the high chair and travel cot for our grandchildren it was really appreciated. The welcome box was also really fabulous. All in all nothing negative about this stay we would definitely stay here again . Just wish we had stayed longer .

  • "I booked the holiday as a present for my father and his partner to take them to visit family and many areas from dads earlier life."

My father has severe sight impairment and has trouble getting up and down. While he was able to manage the steps with supervision he is unable to use a bath so we were banking on the shower. This proved to be useless for him as I was unaware of the steep step up to the shower which steps up to a shallow ledge. There was no mention of this in the description. However, the rest of the cottage and its facilities were great and lovely location. Unfortunately we would not be able to return if my father is with us.

  • "Oak Lea is a lovely property in an excellent location."

The views from the property are simply stunning and it is very peaceful. You have everything you need to enjoy your holiday and it is spacious for 4 people. You are ideally situated to visit Bakewell, Matlock and Buxton. Many other interesting places ( Hathersage, Derwent Valley Reservoir )are also only a short distance away. The pub down the road is brilliant, great food and reasonably priced drinks. We had an excellent week and would like to return.

  • "Lovely accommodation, very spacious."

People with less mobility need to be aware of large walk in shower. My mum who was disabled, did find this difficult. Good communication with owners when the fridge broke half way into our break. Lovely basket of goodies.

  • "This is a lovely property and the owner has provided really good quality beds, towels, crockery (apart from knives, they are blunt but she probably doesn't know in all fairness) The only things that let it down for us was no phone signal, and unfortunately the internet was down for the duration of our stay."

The main thing though was the dust and cobwebs in a lot of places, window sills and light fittings mainly. Also we had our 93 year old Mum with us and the access was very difficult for her, which we didn't know when we booked.

  • "This is a fabulous stay, very comfortable and peaceful."

Great base to visit NT houses etc., and of course Chatsworth. Farm Shop kept us going! only negative really is T.V, (batteries needs spares for remote), possible D.V.D player when bad weather prevails, Door out to terrace from bedroom very hard to open, swollen wood, could be dangerous if pushed too hard! Having said this we will very much look to return, thank you for little treats and milk. Will definitely recommend! Super find thank you.

Thank you for your feedback. We will certainly look to provide a DVD player. I am sorry you were inconvenienced by the batteries running out. If you had let us know at the time we could have arranged to pop some in for you. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is well located, not too far from the M6 and very near the Peak District."

The cottage is cosy and well equipped and has superb views. We were a party of 4 and there is plenty of room in the cottage. Although the weather was cold (mid-Jan) the cottage was always warm. The Peak District itself is wonderful with great walks and plenty to do.

  • "We found Oak Lea to be a comfortable, spacious and well equipped property in a good location."

All facilities were in good order and the property was clean and well supplied. We did however have an issue with the TV as it's response to the remote was sometimes very slow or non existent and frequently couldn't get a live TV signal. A Sky box was provided but this required a Sky card to be inserted to view most of the live and catchup channels. Also, prior to the holiday I was informed by George on Sykes on-line chat (transcript available) that there was no freezer there. As we rely heavily on frozen food, this was a considerable problem and we had to adjust our meal plans. This caused a fair bit of aggravation and stress so we were doubly upset when we found on arrival that the house did, after all, have a freezer (needs a knob on the door). So the listing needs to be updated to show that the house does have a freezer and George needs some training.

Hi Gerard, thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that Oak Lea did not meet your expectations. As soon as we received the note you kindly left on the table, the team at Sykes updated the website information about the freezer. I am sorry you were frustrated by the television system. We will update the notes that we leave in the property to enable future guests navigate it with greater ease. We are always available to speak to our guests and we would have happily talked you through the television process. Regards Sue Property Owner

  • Sheffield 7 miles

Dronfield is a Derbyshire market town with a history dating back to before the 1086 Domesday Book, and has a number of 12th century buildings which are still in existence. The town has a wide range of shops, pubs, restaurants and also a modern sports centre, and is surrounded by wonderful Peak District countryside where the walks are asking to be explored. There are many stately homes to visit including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall, whilst the historic and ever popular town of Bakewell and the rest of the Peak District, are within a short drive.
