  • "We had a fantastic week in Bramble Cottage ."

It is a warm and cosy little gem tucked away on the hillside with great views over the Holme Valley. The cottage is very clean and comfortable and well equipped. Great walks from the door and also a regular bus service nearby so we didn’t need to use the car all week. We highly recommend Bramble Cottage. Thankyou to Katie and Mark for a memorable week and we look forward to returning again soon .

Thank you for the lovely feedback and so pleased you enjoyed your stay. You are welcome back any time! Property Owner

It is clean, comfortable, spacious and well equipped. Hosts are very friendly and helpful. It is an absolute luxury to access so many gorgeous walks from the doorstep, we parked up and never moved the car until it was time to leave. There are lots of great places to eat in Holmfirth, also easy walking distance. We would certainly stay there again. Patricia Flannery

We had a relaxing time, despite the torrential rain-clean and cosy. Good walking distance to pubs and restaurants, but quite hilly so may not be ideal for everyone. Amazing town and surrounding area. I wish we could stay longer. Will definitely return to Holmfirth again in the summer to take advantage of the walks and sunsets but this was a perfect winter holiday, we were wry lucky to wake up to lots of snow on our first morning and made for a perfect getaway. The cottage had everything we needed, was lovely and warm and very well furnished. I would definitely recommend. Mark and the locals scrapped all the footpaths and drives which was very kind. I would only suggest a foot-stall for two in the lounge and maybe an upgrade to the tv remotes as they are both a bit knackered.

On Booking.com the property was advertised as accepting a pet. The confirmation we received from Sykes had "Pet: no". When we tried to clarify this with Sykes we couldn't get through and they didn't reply to our e-mails. As it was necessary to be allowed to take out pet it was important we received a reply in order to make alternative arrangements if no pet was allowed. Eventually Booking.com intervened on our behalf but we were very disappointed with Sykes.

The cottage has been refurbished to an exceptionally high standard, and a great deal of thought has been put into the cottage by the owners, there is everything you need and more, and it would be hard to find a better cottage to stay in, in the U.K. The views from the cottage are stunning across the valley and rolling hills. This is the perfect place to stay as a base, and day trips to The Derbyshire Peaks, Haworth, Scarborough, York, Lancashire and the many reservoir walks close by are all very "do able" for a day out. Taking a four legged friend with you? no problem, they are welcomed. Sykes are a great company too, you can book online or by phone as we did, very welcoming, helpful and within a few minutes all was booked, 1st class customer service to them. About the location

HOLMFIRTH

Peak District National Park 3 miles; Meltham 4 miles

The old traditional Pennine town of Holmfirth is situated in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines. Made famous by The Last of The Summer Wine TV series, there is more to Holmfirth than Compo and Nora Batty’s stockings! The ‘Picturedrome’, the North of England’s finest live music venue attracts many famous bands and is located right in the centre of the town. The pelotons from the Tour de France 2014 and the Tour de Yorkshire have both been through this quaint Holme Valley town en route to the iconic 524 metre Holme Moss climb two miles away. It is in these hills where cycling’s triple Olympic Medalist Ed Clancy grew up. Holmfirth also has a good public swimming pool and fitness centre, parks and some super shops and restaurants. The people here are friendly, the streets are quaint and the scenery is breathtaking. The Peak District National Park with its moors, dales, forests, lakes and reservoirs is also easily accessible. The Upper Derwent Valley, home to the spectacular Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, and where the famous 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron practiced the audacious bombing raid on the Ruhr valley in 1943, is only a short scenic drive away. Slightly further is Chatsworth, the stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and situated close to the market town of Bakewell, the home of Bakewell Puddings. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The National Coal Mining Museum, Wentworth Castle, and the Hepworth Gallery are also within short drives away and well worth a visit. For a spot of culture, Holmfirth has annual festivals with many more attractions that bring visitors back for more; such as the Folk, Arts, and Food & Drink Festivals. Also not to be missed, is Holmfirth Vineyard and Restaurant, where you can book wine tasting tours and enjoy a lovely meal in the restaurant.
