Very friendly and helpful owners with extensive knowledge of the area, should you need it. Excellent location for cycling and walking, plenty of good pubs/restaurants and tearooms within a 10 mile radius. We would certainly stay at Clays View again.

“We had a great break at Alstonefield, the owners of the property who live next door are really helpful without intruding.”

It is a great base for touring the area with walks from the door and a really comfortable, well equipped property with a lovely garden. Just a couple of points which are hopefully helpful and not in any way meant as derogatory criticism. The main photo on the website doesn't resemble the property at all, it must have been taken a long time ago. Also although it states on the web site that there is a shower room upstairs and a downstairs loo it could be made more clear that the only loo is downstairs, which may be seen as a problem for some. Having said that we'd definitely return if we went back to that area.

“We didn't book till the 2nd of April but everything was in place, the owners were very helpful and made us feel welcome.”

We booked for a quiet relaxing holiday away from the rush of modern life and that was what we got. We highly recommend Clays View for a holiday break in The Derbyshire Dales. On a warm summers day there's the facility for private outside dinning and relaxing too. For us it was good to be able to park on site.

“The cottage was absolutely lovely and the falling snow made it the whole village picture perfect.”

To hike for four days and return to such a lovely cosy and warm cottage was bliss. The cottage was very well appointed and with the owners living next door, we knew that we could always call on them if needed. Location of cottage was particularly good for hikers. With so many walks from the door we did not use the car at all. We have stayed in the Peak District on many occasions, but this was the best yet.

“Lovely cozy cottage”

Located in the small village of Alstonefield, about 15-20 mins away from the nearest towns of Ashbourne, Matlock, etc. Clays View is a lovely cottage that suited our needs. We were away from the bustle of a busy town in charming countryside. The views were lovely. The cottage itself was situated in a good location and the owners live right next door. All amenities were provided including iron, microwave, fridge, utensils, TV/DVD player. The bedrooms were well presented and the bathrooms looked newly refurbished. There is ample parking as well. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this place. This is just 4 miles away from Dovedale and would make a lovely base for walkers.

Set in a peaceful village overlooking farmland, Clays View was a great location to unwind and relax. However, with plenty of good walking country in every direction, it was the best of both worlds. The cottage itself was well equipped, warm and snug, with all the amenities you would expect to find. Very much deserves a return visit to ensure that nothing is missed...can't wait.

“Alstonefield - A Beautiful scenic place”

Lovely cottage in a beautiful area. A bit tricky to spot when first go but wonderful spot to be in. The Village was gorgeou and the cottage very nice. Owners are really lovely and very helpful.

“Lovely cottage”

The cottage was a little tricky to spot from the road as it is set back a fair bit. It is well stocked with everything you could possible need in a self catering holiday home. We found it in a clean and fresh condition and it's surrounding gardens were all very well kept. There was a good supply DVD's, video's and games to help keep our 10yr old amused and a folder with everything you could possibly need to know about the local area, including restaurant suggestions. We found leaflets suggesting places to visit which were very handy to have, but I would have preferred to have had some internet access so that we could look up the attractions as many of the leaflets say "see web site for details". Perhaps the owner could open up an internet guest account for visitors. Overall, superb cottage, great location and would definitely recommend.

“Peak and Quiet”

A delightful cottage set in peace and quiet with lovely views over the countryside. Our hosts were helpful but not intrusive which was ideal. We chose this for its proximity to the peaks,Alton Towers , Drayton Manor and Chatsworth House. This gave us a nice balance between countryside activities for the adults and theme parks for the children. The home was spacious and immaculate throughout. The only criticism would be that the garden is not really suitable as a play area as it is narrow, stony with easy access to the main road so not ideal for kids left to there own devices.

“Pesak District....Perfect”

We enjoyed our stay here in this cottage, it had everything that was stated. Cosy immaculate and the owners were obliging. We travelled from New Zealand and stayed in five different cottages throughout England. All arranged by Skyes Cottages and all exceptional value. our arrangements with Sykes were professionally carried out and we had excellent servive from their staff. “Hills of home”

I come from the Staffordshire Moorlands but have no relatives left to visit. Discovering Clays View 3 years ago has ben a God send. It feels like going home each tie I visit. Alstonfield is lovely set in the heart of the best walking area in England. It's more than home from home as it's bigger and better than my house!

The property

Constructed on the side of the owner's home, this delightful property is situated just a few minutes' walk from the centre of the chocolate box village of Alstonefield.

Spacious and well equipped, Clays View boasts a ground floor open plan living room with a central staircase leading to two character bedrooms with sloping ceilings and wood panelling.

Outside, it is surrounded by lovely mature gardens, with a pretty private garden for guests, and overlooks verdant countryside known locally as The Clays, dating back to the days when the clay was used to line local dew ponds.

There are excellent walking opportunities from the doorstep in Dovedale and the Manifold Valley, whilst the villages and market towns of the Peak District and attractions such as Chatsworth House and Alton Towers, are all within easy reach.

ALSTONEFIELD

Ashbourne 8 miles; Alton Towers 10 miles.

The delightful village of Alstonefield lies on the borders of Derbyshire and Staffordshire between the valleys of the Dove and the Manifold Rivers. A village of real charm and character, Alstonefield has won the 'Best Kept Village Award' ten times (most recently in 2005) and been in the final of the 'National Village of the Year' award in 1998 - a remarkable achievement. A lovely village, it has a truly delightful country pub set on the village green and is surrounded by lovely verdant green countryside. The Manifold River cuts a course through superb scenery and is a delight for both walkers and cyclists with the 'Manifold Trail' following the route of the old Leek to Manifold Light Railway. Nearby are pretty Ilam and Hartington with nice pubs and a wide range of shops and cafes, whilst further afield are the market towns of Ashbourne and Leek.
