  • "This is a lovely cottage in a gorgeous area, with really good links to the Peak District hot spots (Matlock, Bakewell etc)."

We really enjoyed our stay, the hot tub is lovely! The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was just down to a couple of small critiques, for instance there is a wood burner but we weren’t provided with any logs or firelighters. It would’ve been nice to be given the first bag, and then obviously we would’ve purchased any extras ourselves! Likewise, there was no cooking oil or salt provided. However, this cottage was a great price, clean and very peaceful. Loved our stay!

  • "We had a lovely stay, it was in a lovely location and it was lovely inside."

Could not fault the facilities and the cleanliness. The owners came quickly to help us change a setting on the hot tub and to change a light bulb. The only two things I would say are potentially needed are, a landline as there is no Mobile reception, this would help ring taxis to head into Ashbourne. Another , would be to have the option of a gazebo over the hot tub for rainy days. However, I would definitely recommend this stay to others.

  • "We have just had another lovely stay at the old cow shed, with the current eating restrictions at pubs we decided that all our meals would be cooked at the cottage and I can confirm that the kitchen although small was well stocked and had everything we needed."

This cottage is in a perfect position for walking with lots of footpaths direct from door. Also it is well placed to drive to some lovely places like tissington (good butchers) and Hartington (general stores for everyday essentials) If you go when you can eat in pubs the pub up the road in the village is top end dining but well worth the price for a special occasion. As long as our joints keep letting us walk up the hills we will be back.

  • "To start off we were unable for a week to contact owners for keycode and bed setup , sent emails and left answer phone messages."

We had to ask Sykes to get info. Great location and perfect after lockdown. After reading previous feedback we were looking forward to our stay. But......................... Big notice leave as you found plus clean oven and fire. The cottage/barn was large and airy. Woodburner no tools to be able to use and clean it out (had to bring our logs back home.(we emailed owner while there no reply). The bathroom was awefull everywhere around shower was thick mould, took me ages to clean it, in bedroom mould all over walls by window , including windows and curtains.(we emailed owner while there no reply) Not good if you have a lung condition. The oven was ?????? we did not want to use it, this is dispite owner asking guest to clean on departure. We altered our menu to try not to use. The heating was superb. The hot tub is a great bonus but take care when getting out as you are up against windows (glass) Went to use laundry washing machine needed a good clean due to mould, no washing line dispite a peg basket, not all clothes are suitable to put in tumble drier.(we emailed owner while there no reply) It was obvious from the rusty state of some radiator tops where the washing was dryed.

Stayed in April 2021, hot tub secluded and scenery beautiful. Owners very respectful of privacy. Would definitely return. Lot's of scenic walks in the area and the cottage was a warm welcome to return to.

  • "Myself and my husband thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cow shed."

Everything we needed was to hand, the bed was so comfortable and the hot tub right outside the front door was perfect after a few hours walking. The location is rather hilly, which was fine for us and there were plenty of walks to choose from.

  • "Overall, pleased with the accommodation and it met with our requirements but was very, very concerned to find mouldy bread, bread rolls, out of date crumpets and a large assortment of open and part used sauces etc left in cupboards, ."

And would question whether the property had had the deep cleaning that was required due to Covid19. Also the food waste bin under the sink was smelling due to a congealed substance left in it which we had to clean out.
