The property

This detached cottage is located in the Derbyshire village of Alstonefield.

Ideal for a couple looking to explore the wonders of the Peak District, this property is a great base to return to and kick off your boots after a wonderful day of hiking.

Be welcomed into the lovely open-plan living space, decorated with light colours to enhance the natural light from the windows coming through.

Take a seat around the dining table with a glass of wine while your partner cooks up something special in the kitchen just for you, and afterwards you can cosy up on the sofas in front of the TV for those quiet evenings in.

Step down into the hall and through to the bedroom, which holds a super-king-size which can be divided in to twin beds, for that little bit of luxury during your cottage break and in the morning throw the curtains on the floor to ceiling windows open and let the sunshine get you ready for the day ahead.

After a shower in the neat bathroom, you can head out to the patio area at the front of the cottage to sit and eat breakfast and later on in the day come back from your walk to relax in the hot tub.

Alstonefield is pretty village in the Peak District, with rolling countryside between spectacular valleys and it is home to two local pubs, the Watts Russell Arms being a short walk away, while local shops are around a 20-minute drive away.

You can find a wider selection of activities just a bit further out, like the awesome Heights of Abraham, famous for its landmark cable car which provides an incredible journey across the Derwent Valley for those feeling brave.

Head up to Buxton, around a a 25-minute drive away, for a more unusual adventure at Stoop Farm, where you can take an Alpaca for a walk and afterwards enjoy tea and cake back at the farmhouse.

There are countless things to do in the Peak District, but make sure one of them is staying at The Old Cow Shed for a relaxing break with your loved one.

About the location

Ashbourne 8 miles; Alton Towers 10 miles.

The delightful village of Alstonefield lies on the borders of Derbyshire and Staffordshire between the valleys of the Dove and the Manifold Rivers. A village of real charm and character, Alstonefield has won the 'Best Kept Village Award' ten times (most recently in 2005) and been in the final of the 'National Village of the Year' award in 1998 - a remarkable achievement. A lovely village, it has a truly delightful country pub set on the village green and is surrounded by lovely verdant green countryside. The Manifold River cuts a course through superb scenery and is a delight for both walkers and cyclists with the 'Manifold Trail' following the route of the old Leek to Manifold Light Railway. Nearby are pretty Ilam and Hartington with nice pubs and a wide range of shops and cafes, whilst further afield are the market towns of Ashbourne and Leek.
