  • "3 families stayed here to celebrate my sisters birthday."

The house is stunning and had everything you could think of that you would need for a weekend stay. There was plenty of pots and pans, glasses and cooking utensils, lots of toys for the children to play with and high chair and stair gate also provided too. There is plenty of space, we never felt on top of each other it was just what we wanted. The courtyard is safely enclosed so they children and dog could be outside without any worry that they could get out. I messaged the owners for advice on a walk best to take with a pushchair, they responded straight back to n and it was a perfect 3 mile circular walk around the countryside finishing up at the red lion pub! Can’t wait to return next year!

  • "Return visit after 5 years and property is still very lovely."

It was very clean generally but did find substantial cobwebs in the lounge albeit amongst the beams and light fittings in most cases. The paintwork is now looking tired, especially up the staircase. We slept in the bedroom with patio doors onto the garden, which could explain why, when on getting out of bed the first morning, I stood on one of a couple of slugs on the carpet. Several more appeared during our stay and there was a constant unpleasant smell from the bathroom. Would these comments put me off staying again, certainly not, the barn is still a fantastic property for large parties to get together. The size is quite substantial and comfortably and sympathetically furnished. I would just point out to the owners that the leak in the small first floor window in the lounge, overlooking the road us still ongoing.

We were in the area to visit Alton Towers as a 16th birthday trip. The teens used the downstairs bedrooms and the adults were ‘banished’ to the loft bedroom (which was ideal). The en-suite bedrooms were perfect to give the teens their privacy. The property was clean, as described, and equipped down to the last detail. The kitchen had a magic drawer with every possible utensil and we made use of dvds / board games / playing cards in the evening. Overall a great find

We are a group who met at university too many years ago to record and this was our annual reunion which was as pleasurable as ever. Our only negative comment would relate to the lack of towels which seems sad given the otherwise very positive reactions that we all shared to a well-priced and welcoming property.

Well equipped with lounge and dining furniture and glassware, crockery etc. Plenty of secure off-road parking and a lovely garden area. Two sets of outside furniture plus a BBQ which we used on two occasions, with our coats on, it was end September after all. The village was lovely with three pubs in total, two that provide meals and one that is for drinks only. All the people we met were very friendly. There is also a Londis store and a butcher's shop. The property is well-situated for visiting a lot of different areas and sites. We had a lovely week here. We do have a few slightly negative comments though. Firstly the lighting in the property is very poor which does make it seem a little dismal. Some of the beds, in particular those in the two rooms to the left of the hall, are not the most comfortable. The other twin room was a little small and would better suit a double bed, the beds in this room were comfortable enough but the frames were very noisy when turning over etc. The bedding was clean but some of the pillows and duvets were a bit lumpy. As I said above it is a wonderful, characterful building but would say, would benefit from a bit of updating in kitchen and bathrooms. Having said this, we would still return.

The property

A superb, Grade II listed stone-built property, situated in a delightful position in the rural village of Ipstones, on the western edge of the National Park.

This exceptional property has been skilfully created from the conversion of a lovely old barn to provide spacious accommodation of a very high standard.

Care has been taken to retain much of the original charm and character of the property including solid old beams and exposed stone.

The accommodation is upside down to take advantage of the light and the barn's splendid natural features.

The magnificent sitting room has a vaulted, beamed ceiling which is open to the eaves, while the second sitting room features a double bed, so you can relax with a good film.

A rather special base for a relaxing holiday at any time of the year.
