It was a brilliant choice for us to stay & visit family & friends, Close to the A38 etc, Matlock Chesterfield ,Beeley Moor ,High peak trail… which we cycled many times.Kev was a Peak National Park Ranger based at Lady bower ,Fairholmes. A couple of things…as the winter weather sets in…a coat stand to hang coats in the entrance to the kitchen would be good as there is no where to hang your coats or a muddy boot stand? There is plenty of space for that.We had to put wet coats on the back of chairs in the kitchen. & muddy boots on plastic bags. Not ideal :)

Very spacious, and stunning views from almost every direction. The log burner meant we had some very cosy evenings in with a movie and bottle of wine. Location ideal for Haddon, Chatsworth, Crich Tramway and Cromford Mill and Matlock Mill. Not forgetting the lovely Bear Inn about 5 minutes drive from the cottage. Wonderful break! Thank you to the Matkin family.

Surrounded by fields and the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, it’s a place where you can relax and unwind. There are also lots of walks, bike trails, quaint English villages and pubs within easy reach. I’d definitely like to stay again. Oh, and there is an opportunity to have a tour of the owners dairy farm, which is just across the field from the cottage, and is well worth doing. It gives a real insight into the life of a dairy farmer. Lots of lovely memories to take away.

  • "The cottage was as described, beautiful setting, lovely and quiet."

It could benefit from a full size ironing board and also some storage in the bathroom. Would be nice to have a BBQ as well. The only downside was the aroma of sewage in the bathroom in the morning and occasionally in the kitchen. We assumed it was due to the septic tank. This aroma cleared with ventilation.

As we had contact several times during your stay, it is a shame that you didn't mention the smell as we could have resolved this for you straight away, as we do pride ourselves on ensuring all of our guests have a lovely stay. Property Owner

The location was absolutely ideal, very nice and quiet and the views from the cottage were spectacular in all directions, the owners were extremely helpful when I asked for information about the local area. I would thoroughly recommend this cottage if you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing place to stay but one which is still handily placed to explore the local attractions and the Derbyshire Dales, we will certainly be returning soon.

  • "The house was beautiful and the surrounding views, the owners had made a wonderful effort to keep the cottage looking modern."

However, we had sewage on the front garden with bits of tissue - this was quickly cleaned up by the maintenance person. Later the same day after flushing the toilet upstairs, water made a rumbling noise and came through the kitchen ceiling next to the electric cooker, the water was so bad it was over the work surface where food is prepared and had to leave early! The lady who owns the farm lives close and seemed very helpful on arrival. It was such a shame what happened at this property and spoilt our holiday. A very costly week and not what we expected

Thank you so much for your feedback. I am pleased to hear you liked the location, surroundings, and interior of the cottage. I am however sorry that you encountered a few problems during your stay. Once I received your message, we immediately went down to the cottage to sort out the problem and wasn't aware of any other issues as we didn't enter the property. It was all resolved first thing Friday morning. We are extremely sorry for any inconvenience this caused you, but it was a blessing that the problem arose on the Thursday before you vacated on the Friday morning and didn't affect you for the first 6 days of your holiday. We had a great time, all was ok. It was a "test" to get there as it had been snowing and the local roads were a challenge. The log fire was a perfect touch and we enjoyed it every night. The front door is a challenge at times to unlock. We did leave it unlocked 2 nights as the previous day we couldn't unlock from the inside. Returning from a meal out 1 night it took time to unlock from the outside, yes it was raining . Despite that little hiccup we loved every minute there and would recommend Lane Head Cottage to anyone. As I'm writing this I'm enjoying the last slice of cake left by the owners for us ! Thank you.

We went to Belpers farmers market, this was great, lots of local produce. We had lots of choice for lunch, so we went to the Bull. Great food and service. The cottage was clean, comfy and very warm! It has everything we look for in a holiday stay. It is within easy driving distance of so many places worthy of a visit and was so easy to find on our first day. The only problem we had was that the bed was very hard, which would suit many people, but not us. It’s not a criticism in any way, just an honest observation as we’ve only ever stayed at a handful of properties with beds which suit us. The smart TV meant we could access the streaming services we subscribe to, so evening entertainment wasn’t a problem. The kitchen has everything we could ask for and the bathroom was adequate for our needs. The views were stunning from every window and the parking was huge. I give the property itself 5 stars and if you like a hard bed, you’d give it 5 stars too.

The cottage is great in every possible way - I love the space, the surrounding, the comfort, the minimalist approach, the fireplace, the convenience. My 8-month-old baby was especially impressed with the front room where he practiced crawling a lot more than back home. The only slight drawback is perhaps the bathroom, the shower sometimes doesn't work 100% well. Also the position of toilet paper is a bit tricky for a left-handed person (two of us are lefties).
