It was a great property, perfect for what we wanted, in particular the open plan kitchen and dining room. We went out for short walks on both Saturday and Sunday which was enjoyable. Everyone commented on what a lovely place it was. Thanks also for the cake!

Neither couple had good nights sleep. The seating in the lounge was too low and not comfortable. For elderly people, it was difficult to get off them. The water from the shower in the ground floor bathroom does not drain away very well, possibly the pipe is partially blocked. Otherwise a lovely place to stay, particularly the scenery and the farm.

Bed comfortable but not great. It’s worth knowing the owner lives below the barn, however we had a great break, beautiful place with plenty of room and bathrooms for a group of 11. A lovely home made cake went down a treat, thankyou. A bit too warm for us ,lovely underfloor heating and saw a 20 minute old calf trying to stand up, a fist for all of us

The Victoria sponge cake and milk were a lovely welcome for us and when we had an issue with the heating system it was rectified very quickly. The house was immaculately clean and beds were very comfortable. We didn’t get time to do the farm tour but got to see the cows as they were opposite the barn! Along with other reviews, we do suggest some side tables in the living area as it is a large room and if you are sitting on the settees you are unable to reach the table in the middle to place your drinks.

When we informed the Owners that the microwave did not work, they provided a replacement. There were also two broken toilet roll holders and a bath with the seal missing on the plug. As there were plenty of facilities in this property, these two minor issues did not cause a problem. We all had a lovely holiday in The Barn.

We were a group of mixed ages ranging from mid 20s to late 70s and each one of us were blown away by this amazing barn and the space we had. The owners left a tasty cake for our arrival and we’re on hand if we had any questions. We took a trip Into Matlock for an Italian which takes around 10-15 minutes to reach from the barn so not far from a few pubs or places to eat should people Wish to go out. • "It’s important to emphasise this is a working farm."

It smells like one (cow dung) and sounds like one (cow mooing and cockerel 4.30a.m.). That said, it would be hard to fault it. The accommodation was generously stocked - loo rolls, washing liquid, milk, tea, coffee (bring your own salt and pepper) and a lovely homemade cake. Every utensil you could think of. The barn is very spacious and clean and felt like a safe place inside for kids to runaround. The games room was a very wise and fun addition. • "We are recently back from a brilliant stay at the barn."

Communication over a few questions we had before arriving was great. The homemade cake on arrival was superb and went down really well with our family. The barn is situated on a working farm and the farm tour provided by Michelle was brilliant - the kids really enjoyed it. The barn itself is fantastic. Loads of space for a group of 10 and really well equipped with really comfortable beds. Games room for the younger ones went down really well. Loads to do in the Wirksworth area with kids too. My only note for people looking to stay is that the outside area is slightly smaller than imagined and doesn't really have a view. This was fine with us not really having the weather at Easter, but may be something people need to be mindful of if hoping to be outside alot later in the summer months. But overall we had a fantastic week at the barn!

  • "Unfortunately the Rayburn central heating boiler was not working when we arrived on the Friday evening, it had locked out."

The boiler was reset by the owners and worked intermittently (continually locking out and needing resetting) until Monday afternoon. The owners provided electric heaters during this period. They also identified that there was issues with the underfloor heating where heating zones were not working. On Monday heating engineers arrived in the afternoon and got the Rayburn working, however there was a catastrophic failure in the evening when the Rayburn did not switch off leading to the asociated pressure vessel failing. Pressurised steam was released externally and due to failed soldered pipe joints steam was released internally. Heating engineers arrived in the eveniing and worked until circa 9.00 p.m. but could not fix the breakdown. The owners provided further electric heaters. We managed to celebrate a 60th birthday on the Wed. However on the Thursday 4 adults with 4 very young children left the premises. Our holiday was sadly compromised by various people intrusions caused by the central heating failure and associated facilities. The owners did their very best to keep us comfortable in the barn but with small children our holiday was stressful and did not meet our full expectations, resulting in two families ( 8 family members) leaving after the 60th birthday celebration. The heating event and outcome was such a shame as location and property was exactly right for our important celebration. We are sad that we could not be positive in our feedback. If we had not endured the above problem we would have been ecstatic in our feedback.

Plenty of room to spread out but still be sociable. Downstairs ideal for anyone with mobility issues. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed including tea, coffee, milk and a delicious Victoria Sponge. • "The whole experience at The Barn was superb."

The premises were very well presented, immaculate and comfortable with ample parking. Even before we got out of the car we were welcomed and helped by a friendly face. Inside we were met with fresh eggs and milk straight from the farm. The location was such that using local walks we covered a lovely 8 Mile walk, even with an 8 year old granddaughter. The games room is well equipped, even with french boules and coloured stones to hide! One of the highlights was the guided tour of the dairy farm, showing how technical farming is nowadays and how the welfare of the animals is paramount. And not forgetting the owners son and his hen. Overall superb and ideal place to celebrate my 65th birthday with my family. Good luck to The Barn. The ‘mark down’ to 9 to the Sykes Experience is due to Sykes not returning several of our calls with enquires not in relation to the Barn itself.

  • "Lovely large converted barn, 6 bedrooms, on a dairy farm."

Recently opened. Large comfortable space, located in the rural areas of Derbyshire, but within short driving distances of many lovely little villages. The owners were fantastic. They allowed us to move our dates, when I made an error in the booking and sorted this with Sykes. Email communication was very good. We were greeted and welcomed cheerfully, and had all our queries eg working the stove etc and request for more towels responded to immediately. There is an on-site farm shop with fresh eggs and meat. On arrival there were some easy instructions and a home made sponge cake, loaf of bread, salted butter, eggs and a jug of milk from the farm. The area was also lovely to walk around and we got a tour of the farm especially for the child accompanying us. All in all and fantastic place to stay for a lovely quiet get away with family and friends. Highly recommend.
