  • "Second time in Manifold Cottage."

I love the peace and quiet. Didn’t like the battery air freshener noise as it kept walking me up and making me jump in the stillness. So I removed the battery. Only thing I struggled with was the amount of hot water for my shower as I have a lot of hair. But it wasn’t really a problem and I’m sure I could have remedied that if I could have been bothered. I love staying there for the quiet and solitude. May well be back, some day, if only to pat the horses. A quiet, solitary retreat.

There is just a low dry stone wall enclosing the garden but our dogs loved to hop over and play in the field beyond. Dove Dale is just a short drive away, it was definitely my favourite spot. We hope to the cottage very soon

Very quiet and peaceful with no shops or pubs in the village. Good pubs in surrounding villages but suggest taking provisions like bread, milk etc. A walkers or cyclists paradise with many beautiful trails nearby. Very dog friendly owners adjacent. All in all a good week spent touring and visiting lovely towns like Buxton and Bakewell and enjoyed the beautiful Manifold valley.

  • "Absolutely delightful time at Manifold Cottage."

Quiet and peaceful and wake up to a lovely view of the field and trees to the back of the cottage. Everything you need in the cottage and a working fan heater in the bathroom. There is a field for running the dogs safely just down the road which was great for us and our dogs loved it. We felt very comfortable in this location and the locals were very friendly and chatty. The owners were lovely too very accommodating and had some really good conversations with them. We will definitely go back again without a doubt.

  • "Nice cottage needs new furniture and airing out."

It has a damp smell . Quite place right near manifold valley walk.

It is such a shame you got so lost on the way to the cottage and that you had such terrible weather, after all the good weather in June!. Our apologies also that we could not let you in earlier as requested, but we do need the time to turn the cottage around. I felt so bad that you were not able to find anywhere to visit during your stay. There is no damp in the cottage and the furniture is unworn, clean and very comfortable. Property Owner

The cottage was exactly as advertised and was perfect for us and we had a fabulous week with our two dogs, Millie and Fred. The owner was super friendly and on hand to sort the hot water issue I created by messing with the program! The ginger flapjacks at Wetton Mill cafe and the ice cream at Milldale were to die for. We would not hesitate to return to this area and this cottage. Terry and Bev from Suffolk

Thank you for your feedback and kind words. I'm sorry to hear you were having issues with controlling the heating and hot water, as you know I am just next door and would have been happy to assist you with using this system, but there are also instructions left in the property. Was lovely exactly what we needed and felt very welcome. The only thing which does not affect what a wonderful place and stay we had was would have been easier to park in front of the cottage to help with unloading things and save dogs going in and out to help with cleaning but that's just personal to me in the muddy weather. Will definitely be back and amazing trip. Situated in a great place to get to things and walks and places for the dogs. Highly recommend

  • "We had a lovely week in Grindon."

The cottage is very well placed for the Manifold trail ( excellent level walking for our old and struggling dog) and there was access to walks from the cottage. Leek is a really interesting town - we'd highly recommend the Heritag trail and picturesque Rudyard is very close by( more level walking). The cottage is well equipped and clean. The garden was perfect for our dog. The view was superb. Our only criticisms would be: low lighting in the living area made reading difficult; the heat of the shower was hard to control; and we never did manage to access BBC 2 and 4! Overall, it was fantastic value for money.

No Internet which was a godsend. we rely to much on technology, so it was also great to be somewhere without a phone signal as well. There are some amazing walks for dogs and the cottage supplied everything you could need for your stay for cooking with. There are Fresh eggs up the road at the local farm for £1.00 per half dozen which tasted so good. Ann was a wonderful host and was there if you needed anything and made you feel so welcome, she even supplied a proper pint of milk and a packet of Cookies but most important of all was the treats for the dogs. There is a small enclosed garden which you can sit in for breakfast looking over the valley and Ann's 2 ewes and 2 horses may come and see you over the wall. They are so comical and kept our collie entertained for hours. Thank you for letting us get away from it all to recharge our batteries, Julie, Paul, Guinness and Apollo. We will definitely be coming back again soon.

About the location

GRINDON

Ashbourne 10 miles; Leek 7 miles.

The delightful rural village of Grindon is situated on the side of the beautiful Manifold Valley, in the heart of the Peak District National Park. Like its well-known neighbour the Dove, the Manifold cuts a course through superb scenery and is a delight for both walkers and cyclists, with the "Manifold Trail" following the route of the old Leek to Manifold Light Railway. Grindon itself is a pretty stone-built village, and close by is Butterton with a butcher's and a pub, whilst further afield is the market town of Ashbourne. The surrounding area has many pubs offering a good range of food and Alton Towers is just a 30 minute drive away.
