  • "A perfect house for a large gathering!"

We stayed here for a family holiday and it had everything we needed. There was lots of space for all 18 of us in the bedrooms and reception rooms; with a welcoming kitchen, living room and conservatory. Plenty of room for the younger children to play and give the teenagers some separate space too. The kitchen was very well equipped and the welcome basket, board games and books were a nice addition. The house was very clean, warm and well-kept which I'm sure isn't easy with such an old farmhouse! The hot tub was a huge hit with everyone and the views were amazing! Lots of outdoor space for football and our Easter egg hunt! We had an issue with the filter on the hot tub and the maintenance team came out very quickly and resolved it; Vicky was very responsive and helpful. I would definitely recommend this holiday house!

Perfect location (remote and private). House was very well stocked with all you'd need, including board games. Jacuzzi was amazing, we bathed in the hot tub whilst watching new born lambs gambling about only feet away

We are so pleased you had a great time! This is a magical time of year. It’s been a rough and wet winter. So pleased you got to see the farm on the other side. Bring on the summer! Property Owner

The photos don’t do it justice! Beautiful area, comfortable beds with a well equipped kitchen and the hot tub was an added bonus. Responsive hosts who were available but not intrusive. We will be back!

Thank you for your lovely review. We are trying! The work never stops and it’s heartbreaking when something goes wrong. Especially due to weather or these charming but old houses But we do our best! Property Owner

The hottub issue wasn't totally resolved but the site manager gave us an alternative and a compensatory bottle of wine. So worth noting, but also dealt with very well and the site manager was very responsive and worked as hard as she could to solve the issue when it came up.

Thank you. We had a bit of a nightmare getting the first hot tub to the right temperature so fortunate that the second one was able to heat up quickly. That’s now resolved (phew!) and thank you for the patience and for being so nice about it. It’s hard to get things fixed quickly out here in the wild! But we do our best and Vicky is on hand to help. We were a party of 16, with 10 adults and 6 children. We had a really excellent weekend and the hot tub was loved by young and old.

Thank you so much for your kind words. We have tried so hard to renovate and improve since we took over and address some older issues. Delighted you used the word “perfect”. That’s the target. There are footpaths for walks immediately from the property. There is plenty of space for a big group - we spent one night in the cottage making a big group meal, and the other night booked a pub meal at a place in Youlgreave (about 30-40 mins walk on footpaths across the fields). The hot tub was a great addition, especially when it was cold and snowing outside. The hosts were very friendly and incredibly helpful when we had some car issues at the end. Would highly recommend!

Thank you very much for your kind review. We’ve been working hard on improvements this year and making sure every one has a great time - despite the crazy weather recently! Glad we were able to help with the car problems and you found the pubs. The best way there is to walk along the river path to Youlgrave as you found. The views are fabulous. We were there to celebrate and the facilities were ideal for this. It is an old farmhouse but this gives it its charm. The information maybe should mention that there is a long access road.

Thank you for your note and stay. They are old farm properties and come with some quirks! Thank you for being understanding. The listing also comes with some constraints! Your note on the access lane is a good one. I will make the point more clearly. Thanks! Property Owner

  • "The location is amazing and the care taker was very friendly."

Having stayed in the other holiday let here I must say we were a little disappointed with the farmhouse. This was a family holiday for my parents 50th wedding anniversay. The property is in need of some general maintenance with broken furniture and light fittings in several of the rooms. There were only 4 wine glasses (the rest were plastic) and the kitchen equiptment did not match what was available in the other property. The hot tub needs daily check or more chlorine as by day 2 the water was pretty unpleasant (we showered before using). Overall I would recommend this location but would advise booking the other accomodation.

Thank you for your note and return stay. I’m sorry you weren’t entirely happy with the facilities. As you can appreciate the farmhouse has had many visitors this summer and now we can conduct a major overhaul and restock of the facilities. To this end the house is closed completely for the next 3 weeks to ensure we can do a full end of season service. If the hot tub needs a top up please let us know via the Sykes app and I can reset the water. I hope we can welcome you back. Property Owner

  • "After a wonderful week at the Farmhouse…the location was fantastic, suitable for our large family, comfortable, clean and with views to die for."

Just a couple of things…. There were water problems upstairs…no cold water came out of upstairs taps or loos while the bath was being run. The grass around the property was very long, making games of football difficult. Dave did come and mow but stopped when the wheels fell off the mower. Dave was helpful with other things when we contacted him. I did feel irritated when emailed by Sykes Cottages while we were in the Farmhouse, offering the property at almost £5000 less just two weeks after our stay….it made me question whether we had been overcharged for the week we had booked. Despite this, our family of twelve adults and six children had a very happy holiday, in an outstanding location and in a very comfortable and well-equipped farmhouse.

Pleased you had a good stay and the weather was good for a change. The constraint rain has stopped us mowing frequently and we avoid getting out the big tractor when people are staying. The day you left we were finally able to cut it back. The smaller mower has also been replaced now. Thank you for the review and the observations that I will look into regarding the water. These old houses have a lot of character and sometimes mysterious plumbing is one of them! That’s a first for us Property Owner

  • "The Farmhouse is in a good location, with great views, including from the hot tub!"

It was great for children to romp around, both inside and out. Plenty of outside space but the over-long grass prevented some games being played. The kitchen was well-equipped with plenty of crockery and cutlery. As with any building of that size and age there were some maintenance niggles, but nothing to mar our stay.

Thank you for the kind feedback. The maintenance is a never ending challenge - the house is several hundred years old! Hopefully that “character” is part of the charm… I’m sorry about the grass. Has rained every changeover day we’ve hoped to cut. And don’t generally like to come around with a noisy mower when people are relaxing on holiday. Hope to see you again. Property Owner

  • "A farmhouse in a beautiful location but sadly very overpriced for what we got."

Day 1 we couldn’t turn heating off despite 20C Day 2 plumber came and said there was a problem but he had closed all radiator valves. Also day 2 downstairs toilet started to smell badly. We were told there had been a problem but obviously not fixed Day 3 we decided to have a BBQ but realised 40% of outdoor table had no glass top - we were told the wind had caught it and the glass had broken. We found out they hadn’t swept up properly when one of the children in our party brought some pieces of glass they had found between the paving stones. I could go on about insufficient glasses and poor wifi but they seemed relatively insignificant!!

Thank you for your feedback which is appreciated. As to the comments - yes - we did unfortunately discover a problem with the thermostat that day when you wished to turn the heating down - because most people like it warm when they arrive (see prior comments about the area being cold and it an old farmhouse) we now heat the house up so its a warm and welcoming place when guests arrive. A plumber was called immediately and could only came the next day - in the interim we turned off the heaters and that hopefully helped in the interim. Apologies if you detected a smell - this is a rural area and the farm next door does have cows and other animals and they will spread muck too. Nor are we on mains plumbing many miles from the village. But I appreciate this might be different from what you have at home. The recent storms did knock about the peak district very badly and the picnic area did see a lot of impact and the glass broken - which we have replaced, including the new glass for the table we had made bespoke and was delivered last week. I am sorry if you found any glass on the floor - I am surprised and we will triple check that again. Rural standard wifi is flagged in the listing of course - we are not on fibre up a long mountain track and use satellite wifi - which of course will take a lot of use but if there are 15 or so people on at the same time will be, as the listing says, good for browsing and not for streaming. I hope this didn't spoil your visit to the Peak District. It is a beautiful rural area and this a very old farmhouse in a very remote and peaceful spot. Your feedback is appreciated, Property Owner

  • "Leak from beneath the kitchen sink (possibly from dishwasher drain) was a problem, but hopefully now fixed."

Two long tables don't really fit well in the dining room, especially while it's also trying to be an entrance hall, boot and coat removing area etc. Not sure what you could do about that though. But a very warm and comfortable house - we had a good time.

Thank you for your feedback - it’s really helpful and appreciated. Sorry about the kitchen water leak - as you will see from an earlier review we replaced a faulty dishwasher in an hurry and the pipe got bent out of shape in doing so. And we didn’t know until you ran it.. Now resolved.. The comment on the tables is really interesting - as you know there are a lot of bedrooms and often large (very large!) extended family parties can come to stay and host huge family meals in the house. So the tables are for that. Let us have a think about how we make that better- not feedback we’ve had before. All the best and hope we see you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely time thank you!"

A few minor things cd be improved - the conservatory doors don’t lock altho I appreciate that the location is remote, this needs fixing. Oven gloves and more cleaning clothes would have been helpful and there is a relative lack of glassware for the size of property. The cold tap in the first four poster room sink also not working. A booklet with some info on the property/appliances/local amenities and walks would also be helpful. We had a problem the first night with the landing light switches which are on a timer not turning off so had to remove bulbs until the electrics were reset the next day. All minor issues which didn’t spoil our week - the property is spacious, the jacuzzi has panoramic views after long local walks straight from the front door and the electric car chargers were great. Would love to stay again as the local area is beautiful and pubs/shops in Youlgreave kept us well supplied.

Thank you for your feedback and useful input - very much appreciated. I am sorry to hear you couldn’t lock the door - we’ve never had that problem before - I expect the recent torrential rain has caused some swelling of the door in the frame. But I will check that again and have it sanded down to provide more give. I will order (even!) more glasses (they are broken and replaced at a remarkable rate!) - thank you for that suggestion. I will also top up the supply of oven gloves - I genuinely believe people think they are disposable! I hope we can welcome you back again. Thank you. Property Owner

  • "We arrived in the pitch black and it was a scary drive to the house (tiny roads) but so worth it."

The first thing we found was biscuits, tea, coffee, milk and what a GODSEND that was! Thank you!! I was never so happy until I saw them. The house is beautiful and clean with four poster beds, jacuzzi for about 6, lovely conservatory, dining room with real fire, sitting room with fake fire (which sadly didn’t work when we were there) and well-equipped farm kitchen. Linens and towels and some soaps and toilet rolls provided. Only one bedroom has en-suite with bath but there were 3 other shared bathrooms and the one I used had the best shower ever - so powerful. All the beds were comfy (everyone said so!) with fresh linen sheets and very plumped up pillows. More than enough for everyone. We had to use some initiative to work out the central heating as no instructions. Basically, the thermostat is upstairs, left down the long corridor and next to the furthest upstairs bedroom. Once that was spotted, we were toasty and warm. The electric fire needed instructions - using iPhones to photograph the back of the fire told us it was a Dimplex Oakhurst so we looked up instructions on the internet but as the lights didn’t work, we contacted The caretaker who suggested we didn’t use it. We didn’t miss it though and preferred the real fire anyway which was well stocked with wood and fire lighters. The S’mores we cooked by the fire with the children were delicious. The Wi-Fi and instructions were clear and good info in a sheet about rubbish and toilets. The Jacuzzi was amazing! So hot when I first got in and easily took 5 of us. Again, some instructions on use would be helpful but we worked it out (ish) with experimentation. The view from the tub is AMAZING - right over the valley to the hills opposite - we felt like kings. One touch the house owners might like to add to make it perfect would be some fairy lights on the patio and leading to the jacuzzi for evening sessions with just adults. It was a lovely stay and we really enjoyed it. A few niggles but excellent on the whole.

Thank you so much for the lovely feedback - it is appreciated. You will be pleased to hear A) New outside lighting on a “dusk to dawn” setting will be fitted shortly across the entire farm, B) the “fake” fire in the living room has been replaced - sorry - it conked out just as you arrived! C) all the bed linens, pillows etc are new this season… Really appreciate you taking the time to leave a review - hope we can welcome you back in the future! Property Owner
