“Nice enough accommodation and the owner left us a delicious cake but we didn't realise just how close the road was.”

We couldn't have the windows open for fresh air due to the road noise. It was also a difficult drive to get out off on the very busy road outside. It was close to a local garage a pub and an Aldi for shopping. Ashbourne is nearby and a very nice little town.

“The cottage was perfect and well placed for touring Derbyshire Dales and Peak District.”

Also there is a pavement which makes it easy to walk to Ashbourne or Mayfield. Only thing is as it is on the main road one does get a lot of traffic noise.

Several supermarkets nearby including Aldi. Lovely garden. Looks over a field and nice views one side, main road the other. Traffic noise in from road but it did not bother us enough.

There were beautiful gardens to sit in and our privacy was respected. It was a wonderful homely cottage, very comfortable and clean with everything we needed in the cottage. The décor was well maintained and the bathroom quite inspiring. There was lovely countryside scenery and good walks close by, and plenty of tourist info in the cottage.

The kitchen was very well equipped and made self catering easy. The style was very homely and sizes of the rooms were very good considering the overall size of the cottage. It had great travel links to get into the Peak District and surrounding areas. The owner was lovely and very accommodating.

“Everything!”

I called the owner the day before arrival to inform her of our arrival time. We arrived at the cottage, found the key, went in and the first thing we see is a home made cake waiting for us. The lady had also been in and put the heating on for us arriving. The cottage was lovely, extremely well equipped with everything you need, right down to soap powder. There's a welcome pack in the cottage that is just excellent, tells you where you can eat, visit, shop, even has numbers for takeaways. We had a lovely stay here, so much so, we didn't want to leave. We had breakfast in the main house on our last day. Lilac Cottage, is just lovely and the owner is very friendly without being intrusive. She actually couldn't do anything more to make a stay at the cottage any better! We'll be back for sure.

“Easy access to local areas.”

If you enjoy walking a variety of walking routes, ie Dove Valle, Manifold Valley, RSPB reserves and, Carsington Water. These are all excellent. If you enjoy looking around National Trust Properties, there are several in quite close proximity.

A lovely small cottage close to the charming town of ashbourne. Wonderful full English breakfasts which are very substantial can be booked the night before. We found the extra care we were given very special.
