The owners, Sarah and Nick are friendly, helpful and unintrusive, The cottage has its own outside space, with table and chairs for sunny days and the central heating keeps everything cosy when it's a bit chilly. There's a small Sainsbury's directly opposite and the village has many independent shops including a butcher, a post office and several pubs and restaurants. Melbourne Hall and its gardens and farm shop is within walking distance, Calke Abbey (National Trust) is a couple of miles away and Staunton Harold reservoir is nearby with a sailing club and walks. The countryside is particularly pretty and there are plenty of walks including by the Trent & Mersey Canal at Swarkestone a mile or so to the north. Highly recommended!
