  • "We all loved our stay at Quarry House."

It's a beautiful place, feels comfortable and homely, full of character. Has everything you could need and the location is excellent for getting into the Peaks... We would also like to return to explore the area around Moneystone as the views were stunning and can tell the nearby walks would be very enjoyable. Friendly welcoming host, really couldn't have asked for any more and would highly recommend!

  • "Fantastic cottage!"

Had a wonderful stay with 3 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 dogs in probably thr most dog-friendly cottage we've stayed in. The dogs loved the garden and attached paddock which gave them plenty of interesting and safe places to explore and so many nice walks on the doorstep. The teens loved the independence of the pod which was toasty and comfortable with its own WC. Rooms were very comfortable. The hosts were welcoming and the home made cake was lovely after a long drive in miserable weather. Everyone wants to come back!

A beautifully renovated house with lots of really thoughtful touches from the lovely owner, a large well-maintained garden and a big paddock for the dogs to run around in. The cosy log burner and an abundance of logs completely made up for some rainy days. Pretty walks on the doorstep and a couple of gastro pubs too (highly recommend the Star at Cotton). Wonderful place.

Thank you for your positive feedback. I’m delighted you had a great holiday here. Maybe we’ll meet again in the future. Kind Regards Jan Property Owner

  • "The cottage is very clean throughout and has everything required in terms of equipment bedding kitchen and dining."

The garden and enclosed paddock are great for dogs. Communication with the owner was excellent and a bonus cake made for us on arrival. Cosy place to relax from a busy life for sure. The one thing I’d mention is that the online listing does not at all mention that dogs are not allowed upstairs at the property, I have double checked this. On arrival we found upstairs gated off and no dogs allowed. Obviously dogs are not allowed on the beds as this is unfair for everyone. We have a rescue dog that sleeps on a bed within the bedroom he was exceptionally distressed at being separated so I had to sleep downstairs. Maybe allowing dogs upstairs but clearly not on the beds might be the way forward.

Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry your dog was distressed. Had I known that before you arrived, we could have come to an arrangement? The stair gate was a last resort to stop dogs getting on my white bedding. As I’ve had to replace many in the past. Despite guests reassuring me that they don’t get on the bed. Maybe in future , with prior warning, guests can bring their own bedding and dogs can then go upstairs. Property Owner

  • "This property is even better than it looks in the photos."

It is positioned in an idyllic spot with marvellous views. It is so peaceful and quiet. The Cottage has been lovingly restored by the owner Jan and has the feel of a home, not a holiday Cottage. The living room is very cosy and the tv set up is perfect. We even used the log burner in June which was excellent. The Aga is easy to use and the separate dining room (with the dogs' settee :-)) is ideal for family meals. The Kitchen has everything you need and the downstairs wet room is well set up for elderly and disabled guests. The shower is amazing. There is also a washing machine and tumble drier in there. The porch is perfect to store dog leads, food, toys and muddy boots. Upstairs are 2 lovely, spacious bedrooms with a Jack and Jill bathroom. Our bed was very comfy. Outside, we had a look at the Pod which has 2 single beds, which could be a double, a toilet and tv. This would be perfect for an older teen (or 2) or an elderly relative with mobility issues. The wrap around garden has been designed so well and there are several areas you can sit and take in the amazing views, The main garden is extremely pretty with some lovely flowers and plants. It is totally secure and, at night there is an outside light and handily placed security lights to help you keep an eye on the dogs. The 3/4 acre paddock is also totally safe and a lovely area for the dogs to stretch their legs. Jan and Nick (and their gardener, Darren) were all so helpful but did not come round unannounced. They would always text if they wanted to cut the grass, do some planting etc. We had a lovely stay and had the chance to explore the local towns, sights and pubs. It's a wonderful area and we were struck by how much of the countryside remains unspoilt and the lack of houses. Obviously, we would thoroughly recommend Quarry House as an amazing holiday let.

Steve, thank you so much for your generous feedback. Guest (and doggy) satisfaction and comfort are paramount. I love my cottage. I love preparing it for my guests. I want them to have the most wonderful holiday here. It means the world to me to receive such a wonderful feedback that demonstrates I am getting it right. Thank you. X Property Owner

The kitchen is fairly small but functional and well equipped. The gardens are beautiful and extensive. There are great provisions for dogs, and the garden is very secure. Also there are footpaths right from the door. Our dogs loved it.

Fabulous provision for our loopy Labrador who loved the garden and paddock for running around - wonderful to be able to just let her out and not have to walk for a wee. Woods up the land a lovely daily walk. Toys and treats galore and a great boot room for drying off. Could not have asked for more from Jan whom it was a pleasure to meet over coffee. Definitely would return / maybe with friends or family to make use of the garden pod extra space and spend more time enjoying the garden in a warmer month.

Beautiful garden with wonderful views and plenty of birds. Our party of four adults had a lovely time here,. Jan the owner made sure all our needs were covered. The cottage had everything needed to complement our holiday, it was so clean and comfortable. Unfortunately the beautiful garden and paddock was not secure enough for my small Yorkie cross, she managed to escape from both on the first day (mad dog) she does have a bit of a problem with escaping. The second bedroom did have a 4 foot small double which was a bit of a squash for two adults, I would certainly recommend Jan and her cottage when visiting this beautiful part of the country.

The Cottage had everything for your use, a proper home from home. We just loved it, so quiet and peaceful and the open fire every evening was the icing on the cake for us! Our dog Beau was in doggy heaven in the totally enclosed garden and then the was the extra paddock for her to run around in too! We did have snow and couldn’t get out in the car for a couple of days but it didn’t matter, we put on our waterproofs and wellingtons and walked down into Oakamoor and walked on the old railway line to the Ramblers Retreat. Very dog friendly place, we’ll worth a visit and the lemon meringue pie was beautiful! Once the snow had gone we ventured out and about, there’s some very pretty villages and towns close by well worth visiting, Buxton, Bakewell, Hartington and Ashbourne but the best thing is the amazing scenery, truley amazing! Thanks you for a lovely holiday and wouldn’t hesitate to come back again but maybe in the summertime to make use of the fabulous garden.
