It was great to come back after a day's sightseeing and lighting the log burning stove. Visited lots of 'must sees' and the Chatsworth farm shop is not to be missed! There is also an excellent butchers in Duffield itself. A great autumn break.

Really well placed for a short bus ride into Derby and a Train ride to Nottingham amongst other places. Would rather not try to drive into cities I don't know well. Very clean and well presented and we'd never seen a TV at the end of the bath before.

Has a roll top bath with a water-friendly tv at the end. Thought this was weird but don't knock it 'til you've tried it. Might get one :) Good wifi and nice rear garden for sitting. Only downside: it's not very peaceful as sandwiched between the A6 and the railway. Otherwise highly recommended.

  • "This is a wonderful property, has everything you need."

The welcome pack is a valuable addition and very nice and appreciated. It is well presented and very clean on arrival, very organised. We didn't use either the dishwasher (never used one, always old fashioned sink and washing up liquid for us), oven or microwave but I'm sure those that do won't be disappointed. The only minor things that could have been improved for future guests are.. The shower had a damaged tap but didn't bother us because we just used the bath which is fortunate, we reported that straight away once we found it. This was received well and understanding and apologetic from Liz. For hob cooking I know there is everything there generally but I would recommend an extra sauce pan and frying pan - the next size up of each.. This point now... It didn't effect us but reading comments in the guest book it did with others. Having a smoke detector in the kitchen, as another guest has pointed out an extractor for the hob would help greatly. But back to the positives of which there are many this is a wonderful place to stay in a lovely quietish village I would highly recommend to anyone. The positives totally outweigh the negatives I have mentioned above so would still rate the property 100%. Aside the property I would recommend for eating and drinking in the village... The White Hart, Angelos Bistro and The Viceroy(Indian) all 3 were excellent food at a price deserving of the standard which is very high. The Town Tap(micropub) lovely little place for a drink and Ben who works there was very accommodating and friendly. We would definitely stay here again someday. 100%, 10/10. Bravo

I would like to suggest a clothes line/clothes horse would be a bonus as it was difficult to get the towels dry and the shower mat gets very wet when taking a shower.

  • "Castle Orchard is a superb property that is appointed to an excellent standard with all that you need to be able to fully relax and enjoy your stay."

It is obvious that the owners have taken the time to consider their guest's experience, and then set about providing a top level of service which has been achieved. With major things like the comfort of the bed, or the quality of the bathroom, through to simple things like the welcome pack on arrival including dog biscuits and poo bags - these little touches go such a long way as they show that thought has been put into the guest's stay. We will definitely be booking Castle Orchard again if at all possible in the future, but as it is such a great property I wouldn't be surprised if it gets booked up well in advance.

  • "So we had a wonderful stay at 3 Orchard Cottages - what a wonderful cottage and maintained to a very high standard and in keeping with the era of the cottage."

Everything had been thought of by the owners to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We loved the village of Duffield and the surrounding areas and had a great time exploring the local walks and eateries. One downside however - the cottage is very close to a busy railway line and on the first night there were trains pretty much every hour throughout the night which prevented a good nights' sleep. The number of trains did ease off on the Saturday and Sunday however. Overall, beautiful cottage with a lot of thought put in by the owners - thank you!

My husband runs a business so he was working a lot at the dining table during the day, I was more than happy going off for walks with my little daschund, shopping in Ashbourne (lots of clothes shops!) the antique stores in Duffield and Matlock ☺️ So a really great base, with some real luxurious features. In the evenings we tried all the village pubs, again every one recommended. Thank you so much for our little escape we loved it

We arrived to the little snack basket and doggy treats, this was a really nice touch. This cottage has everything you need and is close to the village (5 minute walk). Some really nice local walks too, we travelled a little further out to Dovedale which was gorgeous! The only downside was that the train track across the field was rather noisy, this really unsettled the dogs. Wouldn’t be ideal for light sleepers either, however apart from that we wouldn’t of faulted our stay. Would love to visit again :)

The owners have put a great deal of thought into providing everything needed for a comfortable stay. The elevated back garden is a bit of a sun trap. A pleasant 15 minute walk into the village gives access to plenty of places to eat plus the Co-op and Birds Bakery (choc chip cake). Location is ideal for exploring the many National Trust sites (Hardwick Hall & Kedleston Hall are two we enjoyed). Accessing the cottage can be tricky if approaching from Belper, would suggest driving to Duffield and turning round. Would recommend this cottage and would use again if we were visiting the area.
