“We have had a lovely stay in the cottage.”

The views are amazing (even though it didn’t stop raining when we were there!). Very clean and tidy, added extras like tea, coffee etc to get you started. Fantastic base for exploring the local countryside.

“Holmdale Cottage is a fantastic place to stay.”

It is immaculately presented and definitely feels like a home rather than a place to stay. The view out of the bedroom and living room is stunning. We would have loved to sit out on the decking looking at the stars had we not been so tired from walking. There is a footpath almost directly opposite the cottage to start you on your adventure to the Peak District. Highly recommend this cottage and the owners are very helpful and easy to do business. The one downside is we forgot to finish off the complimentary biscuits before we left!

“We had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing holiday at Number 51.”

The notice on the front door ‘This is a small house with a big welcome’ says it all. The cottage is well appointed and had all we needed. It was comfortable and the heating was very efficient. Despite it being late September, the weather was very kind with sunshine every day and only one half day when it rained. The views from the cottage over the valley were wonderful and on the rainy morning we had a lovely rainbow over the moor. The patio and summer-house are welcome additions, and the upper decking is a wonderful sun-trap where we had several meals. Netherton has a good range of services from Co-op, to Charity Shop to Fish-and-Chip shop. We would recommend the Indian food at The Blue Tiger in Honley which was excellent. Our neighbour John, a part-time gardener with a passion for snooker, was very friendly and informative. His rabbit Minnie, although an elderly lady, was adorable. Our reasons for booking the cottage were twofold. Firstly, we love the wide open spaces of the Yorkshire Dales and Moors. Secondly, we wanted to walk the Huddersfield Narrowboat Canal which we did over two days from Huddersfield to Ashton-under-Lyne. We would recommend the cottage and look forward to making a return visit.

“The cottage met our expectations - it was warm, comfortable, very clean and with outstanding views.”

The preliminary details do explain a bit about the parking and the details we were sent just a few days before departure gave much more detail. We managed fine but I think a family of four with a large car, might find it a bit tricky to park in the road at the front. Also, although the details accurately describe the cottage as on one floor at ground level, it is in fact an 'over-dwelling' built on top of a two storey house but facing the other way. This makes it intriguing and with lovely views from the terraces at the back. But the climb up to the front door (at the back) is very steep, so anyone with mobility issues might struggle getting up there and carrying luggage. We had a lovely week and walked every day - thank you

“This is a nice cozy cottge with lovely views.”

Its well equiped with everything you need for a short holiday. There are three problems. Firstly, parking is difficult. You can't park at the property itself but have to find a space somewhere on the narrow lane below the cottage, along eith all the resident of the adjoining properties. Secondly, access is not easy if you are at all unsure on your feet. Its up a steep uneven track. Thirdly, The boiler is underpowered. We were there in winter and had difficulty getting getting a decent temperature in the cottage. Also, if you want a bath after a long walk, you can't turn the hot tap on full because you only get luke warm water. If you can live with all that then its great.

Thank you for your feedback. We have had a new boiler fitted at the property, with a remote control and sensors. We received an automated message stating there could be a problem with the system during your stay, so we called you on your arrival day to explain the issue and offered to attend to the property to have a look at the boiler. After we completed some checks over the phone, we were advised by yourselves that everything was working as it should and that a visit was not needed. When our Property Manager attended to the property following your stay, they noticed that the boiler temperature control had been turned down, therefore this explains the lower water temperature which you have now reported. There is a note on the website which advises that there is a slope up to the front door of the property, and that it may not be suitable for those with limited mobility. We have also included information regarding the parking by the cottage, and have advised that it is best to park to the back of the property, in the quiet cul-de-sac reached by a footpath. “The cottage is lovely.”

It’s small but very homely and has everything you would need in it. The views from the living room are excellent. There is a lovely area outside to sit which would be very enjoyable in nice weather (it wasn’t great weather for us!). The cottage was very clean and tidy, and finished to a high standard. There are some lovely touches like the various board games (which allowed us to have a games night) and binoculars etc. We had a great stay here and would definitely recommend staying here.

The bed was very comfortable and the views from the windows in the property, and patio areas, were fantastic to observe the surrounding countryside and the weather each day, that's why I chose this property. There is no proper parking area, however there is parking a little further up the road.

) The wonderful farm shop up the road The ease of booking it and verbal contact with the owners at the end of our stay (made it more personal) Even better if: To be provided with a small welcome basket which is quite common now - including a bar of hand soap. The soap liquid dispenser was hard to use, especially in the shower To provide a few bin bags. Different towels - were they new? They didn’t absorb moisture and never felt dry - perhaps needed a few washes to get going To add a TV sound bar. We used my husbands Apple Mac as an alternative. Ideal for two but would be rather small for three or four All the latter are little things which didn’t detract from the overall enjoyment of our stay but would make a difference. Thank you. The cottage isn't huge but it is very well planned. Handy for the local shops but also for walks. The garden has 3 seating choices, once again very well planned for a small space and we used all 3 while there as the weather was good. Views from the top of the garden are just great!

The cottage was very clean and tidy, Lyn and Brian left tea bags and milk for us in case we arrived late. There was a very comprehensive info booklet available which we found very useful. Wonderful views, friendly and helpful neighbours. A very relaxing place. There is a co-op just five minutes walk away. I say access to Leeds and Manchester and Huddersfield is a few minutes away. We enjoyed our stay so much and very likely we will repeat this experience.

“Superb cottage and a marvellious place to unwind”

This is the second time we have stayed at Holmdale Cottage. The cottage itself is small but very well furnished with stunning views. The master bedroom is very nicely decorated with a comfortable double bed. Waking up to the picturesque view across the valley and the step-rising hills that lead to the northern-end of the Peak District is quite breathtaking. The second bedroom, which we didn’t use, has a single bed with a further pull-out bed underneath it. This bedroom faces the rear of the property. The kitchen and living area are in the same room but the layout makes it feel the kitchen is seperate. There’s plenty of comfortable seating, a good size TV, and Wi-Fi that delivers reasonably good speed. Both the times we stayed have been in the month of February, so it’s cold outside! The central heating is very effective warming the cottage up very quickly. There’s a nice bathroom with a bath and seperate power shower cubicle. We found the owner, Lynn and Brian have to be very friendly, helpful and quick to respond to any questions we had.

“Excellent cottage, Peaceful and Comfortable and good access to many walks and attractions.”

Relaxed in this lovely cottage from the moment we arrived. Outstanding views from the front rooms, at the back the garden, though small, had variety with sitting area, or seclusion in a summer house, or sitting higher up with a wonderful view. Facilities were good and modern, and the cottage was very clean. The location felt very secluded though the main roads were only 5-10 minutes drive away and we found it very easy to access routes to major attractions. A great place to stay to which we hope to return to next year.
