Has everything you could possibly need very well equipped. A home from home . We were here for a last minute visit to an ill relative . Mark the host was very understanding and accommodating of our situation when things didn’t quite go to plan . The welcome gifts were a nice touch and very much appreciated . Would love to come back one day and highly recommend a stay here .

The property was delightful and very centrally located. We particularly loved the log burner on a chilly evening. The kitchen was very well equipped and a great place to eat. We had a lovely warm welcome and appreciated the call before we arrived. Would certainly recommend it.

  • "We had a very pleasant stay at Christmas Cottage."

As a party of two adults and two teenagers, we had plenty of space, the beds were super comfy and we had everything we needed. The oven wasn't particularly user friendly, but we worked it out in the end! The location is ideal for Matlock, Chatsworth and surrounding areas, with plenty of shops/supermarkets and a decent pub, the Greyhound where we enjoyed a meal.

  • "HIGHLY RECOMMENDED."

Christmas Cottage is a magical, quirky, fascinating property. Original beams, interesting walls, sloping floors and spiral stairs all make this place a joy to behold. There is every mod con you can think of, including Netflix. The beds are so comfortable and the bedding is top quality (Dorma). Torches and fans are provided in each bedroom. The whole cottage has a high end finish and is very clean. Mark, the owner, is generous and kind, offering a lovely welcome pack and was there within literally 5 mins after I texted him about an issue with the lock on the summer house (which is another charming room). The matter was instantly sorted. No problem. We are a multi-generational family, aged between 30 yrs and 77 yrs, so no need for the stair gates. I think it's fair to say that this property is suitable for all the family. The outside area is like a secret wonderland with fairy lights and numerous seating options. It's clear that much love and care has been given to Christmas Cottage. We enjoyed visiting Sheffield, Padley Gorge, Sherwood Forest and Matlock but unfortunately didn't have time for the Heights of Abraham at Matlock Bath or Chesterfield. Thank you to Mark for sharing his property with us. ☺ P. S. Colin and Craig, the cockerels, didn't trouble us. You can't hear them with the windows shut and they must be so old because it's more of a croak than a crow!

  • "Absolutely stunning cottage!"

Loved the Christmas theme, would love to see the cottage at Christmas. Beautifully decorated, high tech appliances, very clean and homely. Loved the lights outside, a great Christmasy touch. Wonderful welcome pack. Only issue was the steep stairs, but this will not stop us from returning. We recommend Christmas Cottage.

  • "Christmas Cottage is a beautiful homely and cosy cottage, with both modern and traditional features which appealed to us as a family of 5 (ranging from 19-50 year old)."

Mark the owner, welcomed us and had left some very appreciated goodies for our arrival. Mark couldn’t have done more for us during our stay and it was lovely to chat with him about the history of the cottage and the surrounding area, including his wealth of knowledge about places to visit/eat and drink. The fully furnished kitchen had everything we needed for our stay and couldn’t ask for anything more and was a lovely space to spend family time. The multi-fuel stove in the sitting room was a lovely cosy treat and gave out loads of heat and was easy to use. The beds were amazing including comfy pillows and duvets in splendid bedrooms with traditional character and plenty of storage. bedtime, it was a pleasure to retire to bed after a busy day. The drive fitted all our 3 cars on with no problem, it’s best to reverse onto the driveway to make it easier to pull off. Although we didn’t use the summer house or courtyard/outdoor seating (due to the weather) they looked great spaces to use in the warmer weather. Thank you Mark for a lovely holiday in Christmas Cottage. Rachael, Anthony, James, Hannah and Jack

  • "The cottage was stunning and very comfortable."

There was a few items left to welcome us, which was much appreciated. It had all that we wanted for a comfortable stay. Wasn't too sure how to work the heating, but it wasn't too cold, and we used the log burner. Mark was very helpful when I first arrived. Would definately stay there again.

  • "What a wonderful place and what a wonderful thoughtful host."

The cottage is perfect. Beautifully presented and cosy. Go explore the area there are some great walks and amazing places to visit. I was able to work with ease for a few days with spot on wifi and enjoy the courtyard for lunch. There are some good runs across the fields and you can then have a great meal in one of the local pubs after. Thanks Mark. We will see you soon.

  • "Mark, the owner of the cottage was very helpful and accommodating."

He welcomed us via a text and ldt us know that he was a phone call away for any issue. We didn't realise the stairs were not very wide and only had a handrail on one side. And that the single bedroom was at the top of the house. (Maybe we didn't read the description thoroughly?) This was fine for all family members but for one who is 86 years and has an issue with his right wrist. But after speaking with Mark, he brought us a fold up bed that we could use in the living room. Problem solved. The cottage was lovely, spacious and also cosy. The outside space was great for sitting out in the afternoon and evenings. At bedtime, it was a pleasure to retire to lovely rooms with comfortable beds made up with very nice bed linen. There were two pub restaurants close by and we were a car ride away from so many well rated eateries. There was also a supermarket close by in Alfreton 2 miles down the road. As for the sightseeing, there is so much choice depending on the length of your stay. Our party loved Christmas Cottage and I would love to book again in the future.

  • "Comfortable, well decorated property to a high standard."

Beautiful spacious family kitchen. Welcome goodies were a nice touch and appreciated after a long journey. However, the kitchen could have benefitted from serving bowls for family dinners. Garden furniture only seats 4 for a property that sleeps 5. Bathrooms had no electric shaver point, so two pin plug should be provided. Property is listed as having a BBQ, but disappointed to find a really old rusty firepit with BBQ grate, in the corner of the courtyard, full of water, weeds and moss. We could not find another one, so assume this was it. Totally un-useable and not an accurate listing. Should be replaced. Didn't expect to have a cockerel next door, right under the bedroom window, waking us up at 4:30am every morning. Almost ruined the holiday for us, which is a shame!

  • "A very comfortable and obviously newly renovated cottage with a nice private patio courtyard."

The two bathrooms and downstairs WC were much appreciated Downsides which were not made explicit prior to booking however are: no facilities for making a pot of tea or a cafetière of coffee; we especially brought our own coffee and had we been told we would have brought a tea pot and cafetière. The entry and exit to the cottage is an accident waiting to happen as it's at the junction of two roads with fast moving traffic. The cottage stairs are very steep especially up to the second floor.

It is what I would call a perfect holiday cottage with all the trimmings cosy beds, log burner, excellent kitchen every thing you need for a perfect holiday. You must also take into account you are staying in the country side and you do have farm animals, which I do not mind it is part of the experience of staying n the country side. All the family really enjoyed staying here many thanks...
