  • "Our party consisted of three adults."

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Farriers Cottage. It’s location was ideal for what we needed. The property was clean and with modern kitchen and bathroom. There are two double beds, one was quite low and just a bit to soft for my liking. The other bed reportedly gave the Best nights sleep in ages! Overall, we would use Farriers Cottage again if we were to revisit the area.

Lots of great local walks. Some nice pubs, with extraordinarily friendly and welcoming staff. We had four very enjoyable days there, and couldn't recommend it too highly. We are frequent users of holiday cottages; this was one of the best ever!

  • "This was the first time we've spent Christmas away from home, but staying at Farrier's Cottage exceeded our expectations."

Beautifully decorated for the festive season with a Christmas tree and garland over the fireplace (and a present under the tree!) we felt so welcome, warm and comfortable here. The cottage is stylish and cosy, with a well-equipped kitchen, modern bathroom and a comfy sitting room with a log fire. Oh, and I enjoyed reading the history book about the village, too. Farrier's is centrally located in this gorgeous Derbyshire village, which we took a walk around with a brochure guide from the local shop nearby. This friendly store was even open on Christmas morning and provided us with everything we needed during our stay. Farrier's Cottage is a little gem - we'd definitely love to return!

  • "Very happy with the cottage, however the fact that the bedroom windows don't open and the rooms can't be aired was nor good."

We had to leave the bathroom vent on all day to not only get rid of the extreme moisture in the bathroom but also attempt to renew the air in the bedrooms. Other than that very comfortable stay

  • "Excellent place to visit, Winster itself is a very old village with lots of different types of properties and character."

Farrier's cottage was a good example of this, but the finish inside was excellent, with high quality fixtures and furnishings, very clean and well equipped. The village pub (the Old Bowling Green) offered an excellent takeaway service with good food. We really enjoyed our stay there and hope to return.

The place was spotless and we found we had everything we needed. The weather was fairly rubbish but it didn’t matter as we had such a homely place to spend our time in. Thank you!

  • "The location information you advised was confusing."

Would have been better to find by the name alone which was quite obvious as there was no number. Also when booking I phoned to ask a q and was going to book online. As I was asked if I wanted to book I went ahead but wasn't advised there was an extra charge.

  • "We had a great time at lovely Farriers Cottage."

This beautiful well equipped cottage has everything you could need and is very tastefully decorated. Our only criticism would be that the bed could do with a new mattress

  • "We thought that perhaps having lighter duvets available might be useful, as the beds got very hot, even though the weather was not particularly warm."

The drying up rack is not ideal for stacking the washed plates, which are heavy and substantial. Pity the weather did not allow us to use the delightful outside area as much as we would have liked - beyond your control, we know! But these are minor points, as on the whole we thought the location of the village, and the cottage and its facilities, were excellent, and we would not hesitate to visit again. and recommend it to others. We would also like to mention that the people we met in Winster, and particularly those running the village shop, were unfailingly friendly and helpful.

  • "The cottage was exactly as listed on the site - everything we needed was there, including a starter pack for the log burner."

The hand book was very clear and informative. We found the instructions how to get to the cottage very unclear, and the property is listed in the wrong place on Google Maps and Sykes’ website. However, we phoned the number listed and the lady at the other end explained where it was, so we did find it in the end. Once we were there, it was lovely.

  • "Farriers Cottage was a delight, just as the pictures, but nicer."

It’s well furnished with quality linens and crockery - no chipped mugs here! We loved the heated floor in the kitchen. There was only enough logs for a short lived fire so we had to buy more, but having a log burner in a cottage is a definite asset. Winster is very pretty and worth exploring, very useful shop and two pubs, plus lots of things within a walk or short drive. Would be happy to return and can definitely recommend.

  • "A characterful cottage in a beautiful village."

It was nice to have an outside seating area. The community village shop is excellent and the weekend was made more special because it was "Winster Secret Gardens Open Weekend", an unexpected bonus. Another reviewer mentioned that the bedrooms are small, which they are, but they are very comfortable and since we were mother and daughter travelling together it was fine. Some couples might find the double bedroom a little cramped but my husband and I would have been quite happy with it.

  • "It was beautifully furnished with loads of wonderful cushions and throws and curtains."

It was fully equipped ,a great kitchen, and a window seat in the lounge. It was clean and very comfortable. It is an upside down cottage, with the bedrooms downstairs. With a lovely little patio garden upstairs that we were able to sit in. I do have one niggle though. The downstairs was quite cold, in fact the bathroom smelt damp, but the beds, although very comfy, were made up with 10.5 duvets. Even in the cold rooms the duvets were too warm. Luckily, as this has happened the last twice we have booked a cottage somewhere and we have had to go out and buy a thinner one, I have so many duvets now we took our own with us. It would be nice and not expensive if the properties could have spare thinner quilts available.

It is on the Main Street of Winster which is a lovely small village with a couple of pubs and a village shop. There’s so much to do for all the family within a 25 minute drive. The house itself has been tastefully decorated and furnished and is a pleasure to stay in. Would definitely return!

  • "Good to park outside property."

Village is fantastic. Property had poor ventilation on a wet day, windows remained misted all day, quite depressing. I found the double bedroom very cramped. Too much stuff in the room e.g. ottoman and free standing mirror. Very small sink in bathroom. When washing up by hand in the kitchen the water drained all over the worktop. Property needs a vacuum cleaner of some sort, reluctant to go on my hands and knees to sweep up crumbs or dirt in the hallway. Hate artificial flowers, prefer to go without. Good supply of crockery and pans. Loved the location but would not stay in this property again.

  • "We loved this cottage."

Obviously a lot of thought has gone into the interior design but not at the expense of comfort. There are all the facilities you could want for a relaxing stay, including a cosy patio area, well-appointed kitchen and spacious lounge. The village is full of character, with an excellent shop/post office just down the road and brilliant pub The Old Bowling Green a five minute walk away. Also loved The Miners Standard pub on the road into the village, lovely well-cooked food. Would recommend Farriers Cottage either for a short break or longer stay.

  • "Our stay at Farrier's Cottage was absolutely delightful!"

We arrived to the property quite late in the evening but it was very easy to find and to access. The property was warm and cosy for our arrival. The bed was extremely inviting with lovely cushions and blankets, plus the duvet was of a high quality that made for a restful first nights sleep. The rest of the property is beautiful decorated and furnished. It is spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the fire and the underfloor heating in the kitchen was very welcomed. I don't think the pictures of this property really show off how wonderful it is! It's in a great location for exploring, and the local shop is an added bonus- only 1 minute away. The owner was extremely flexible and accommodating as we needed a later check-out time due to a wedding we were attending in the afternoon. I would definitely recommend this property. We don't often visit the same place twice, but for Farrier's Cottage we might make an exception.

About the location

WINSTER

Bakewell 6 miles; Matlock 4.5 miles.

The conservation village of Winster is situated within the White Peak area of the Peak District National Park and is an extremely pretty place, with a charming 17th century market house at its centre, and other imposing 17th and 18th century houses, many three storeys high. The three main streets - Main Street, East Bank and West Bank are interconnected by alleyways known as ‘ginnels’, which are well worth exploring. The village of Winster is famous for its Morris dancers, the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, Wakes festivities in June, and the Secret Gardens of Winster event in July. Within the village there is a well-stocked, community-owned general store incorporating a Post Office. There are two pubs, both serving food and traditional beer. Bakewell, Matlock, Chatsworth House, and the Peak Rail Steam Railway are all nearby and, for keen walkers and cyclists, The Limestone Way runs along the edge of the village. The Tissington and High Peaks walking and cycling trails, with bike hire available, both lie less than 5 miles from the village, a wonderful base for exploring the Peak District.
