  • "Lovely Cottage with beautiful views we were very lucky with the gorgeous weather too."

Having a second kitchen with 14 people was an added bonus. All the rooms were beautifully decorated, with the 7th bedroom in the description it does tell you it is half a door so please take note that it is but it does tell you in the description. Plenty of parking space to park several vehicles. I would just recommend taking your own toilet paper because there wasn't much there. We had an incredible weekend with family to celebrate my Mum's 70th birthday.

  • "We had a really lovely time at Rock Lodge Farm for a family celebration of a birthday."

The house was a pleasure to be in, all the bedrooms comfortable and generous, the bathrooms luxurious. Our 8 year old grand-daughter loved the room with the low door and all the children (11 months to 8 years) loved the swings and the tree house - or Hogwarts Flying Car! We had good weather, so we especially enjoyed eating on the terrace and being in the beautiful garden. We enjoyed the wide selection of games and magazines too.

  • "Lovely building, surroundings and gardens."

Lots of parking space. Family were not happy with the amount of cobwebs on windows and curtain rails. Had a problem with a shower, the owner tried very hard to get it sorted via Sykes but a man in shorts and no tools came and said he couldn't fix it and left water running for a couple of days. This is no fault of the owners. Overall we had a lovely holiday.

  • "1) A plumber arrived unexpectedly part way through the stay and announced that he had come to repair the leaking bath!"

We had not been told about the problem. He didn't have the part to repair it so it was left in that state and he didn't return. 2) While the plumber was there we pointed out that the toilet flush in another room continued to flush after use. He again didn't have the part and didn't return. 3) There was a wasp nest in a hole in internal plaster. Fortunately it appeared to be old. 4) We vacuumed under all settee cushions before leaving and found a large amount of food debris. We didn't eat on the settees so it was clearly from previous guests. 5) You, Sykes advised us to put recycling in bags provided. There were no bags or recycling bags so we had to improvise. Generally the property is in lovely surroundings, has lots of facilities and we would otherwise highly recommend it, but appears to be poorly managed.

  • "We very much enjoyed our stay at Rock Lodge farm."

The setting is beautiful, it was quiet with amazing views. It felt very spacious yet cosy and welcoming. We found the bedrooms comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. We didn’t really need the second kitchen but that too looked clean & modern. The utility room was very useful for hanging up wet clothes and doing laundry. Also appreciated the books and board games as the weather was pretty bad so we needed some indoor entertainment. Roger was helpful and quick to reply to our queries. Would definitely recommend this place for a family gathering and would love to visit again.

Surrounding countryside beautiful and peaceful . Great to be able to go walking directly from the house. Superbly equipped kitchen . Very comfortable beds and quality bedding. Fantastic water pressure in all the showers. Only negatives are the heating in the barn extension ...not working for much of the stay (thankfully it was warm ) Need a bigger recycling bin outside . We arrived to recycling bins overflowing. Disappointing that having stated that logs would be available for our first night non were there.

  • "Rock Lodge Farm was a perfect setting for our large family group."

We are from all over UK and came together to try to make up for the Christmas we all felt robbed of in Dec 2020. The beautiful setting in the White Peak was uplifting - and we can see exactly why there is a floor to ceiling window in the dining room in order to enjoy the vista. We had a fabulous Hunter's Moon to enjoy during our stay. We enjoyed lots of trips into the area despite the challenging weather. Our group visited the Monsal Trail, Bakewell, Buxton Brewery, The Eyam Plague Museum, Chatsworth House, and hiked Mam Tor. The large cottage is well equipped for catering for large numbers and we had some splendid meals around the long table. Our grumbles were few, but maybe worth noting to improve your clients' experience. The kitchen knives, although numerous, were not sharp. Carving large joints (and even a goose) proved challenging. A decent sharpener might resolve this. The downstairs bedroom ensuite radiator/towel rail would not come on at all until we discovered it was somehow linked to the bedroom above it. There still did not seem to be any rhyme/reason to why this was. The downstairs bedroom shower had a constant drip. The barn kitchen freezer baskets are not easy to slide in and out as the top one's rails appear broken. All of these are minor issues and did not detract from our overall impression of the holiday. Easily resolved, they could make future guests' holidays perfect. Thank you for a great week.

  • "The quality of the facilities and fixtures was excellent but the standard of handover was not what was expected."

It was our understanding that dishwashers were to be emptied before leaving, the one in the farm house was still full when we arrived. Also in this side the tumble drier had obviously not had the condensation water emptied or the filters cleaned for some considerable time, the filters looks as though growing mould before we cleaned them. The washing machine in the Barn side had not been emptied, with a pair of child's trousers found inside mouldy which we left on the kitchen window cill as evidence, we put the machine on a cleaning cycle before use. General cleaning - there was a considerable layer of dust under the bed and cabinets in the Barn ground floor bedroom, I did not check with the rest of the family over their rooms. The ground floor bedroom shower had a permanent drip from the control unit and we were unable to find how to get any heat into the towel rail despite raising room temperature to see if it was tied to the bedroom underfloor heating. As a final point it would have been useful to have an option of a summer weight duvet instead of the single bed sized duvet left in this bedroom.

The dining room is a real talking point and a great place for large group meals. We particularly liked the fact that either side of the dining room, the cottage has two distinct "wings" each with its own kitchen so we were able to have an adults end and a teens/young adults end! I couldn't think of anything we needed that wasn't there and we will try to book for the same weekend next year which says it all. Wonderful walk down to Bakewell too along the Monsal trail.

  • "Hi This is a great house, with great facilities and ideal for a larger group like we had."

The location is very good to, althopugh some warning needs to be given about the state of the narrow lane that must be traversed to access. However there were a couple of teething problems that put a downer on the weekend. The first was that there was a leak from a pipe in the ceiling of the dining room, which had covered one piece of furniture and the floor when we arrived. We reported this, but no progress was made during the weekend. We collected 5 trays of water over the period. Also talking to the cleaners this was already known. Second when we arrived there were a number of wasps in the barn part of the house. Listening on the landing we could ere scratching and rustling noises quite clearly indicating a wasps nest in the roof, Fortunately the wasps were accessing from outside, but still occasional wasps would get into the rooms. This meant we weren't really able to use the small bed room, as noone would sleep near the nest. Again we reported this but nothing was done over the period. The cleaners obviously had noticed wasps int he house but had not investigated further (it took us less than 10 mins to find this on arrival). 3. The gas rings on the stove int he farm house had functioning igniters on only 2 of the 7 rings. 4. The door of the double bed room of the farm house jammed when shut so that my 80 year old mother got stuck inside, because she couldn't pull the doo open. 5. There needs to be a contact number in the house for snags, as we wasted a couple of hours trying to find the right people to report this to when we had just arrived.

Thank you for alerting us to the problems that you have outlined. We are very sorry to hear about them as we endeavour to provide an immaculate and welcoming home for our guests enjoyment at all times. We appreciate the upset that any problem can have when you are on holiday and can only apologise for the inconvenience caused. We are grateful to you for the detailed feedback and have been able to identify and fix the leak and address the stiff bedroom door. No wasps nest has been found at the property, despite a thorough search externally and internally. Our contact details would have been provided by ourselves and by Sykes on booking and they are also generally located in the visitor information booklet at the property. Please accept our apologies if this was not the case on this occasion. Property Owner

We had been a bit worried about the proximity of the main road on the map, but you can't see or hear it at all from the house - the view is just beautiful and the setting is very peaceful. It was perfect for a big family weekend (9 adults, 5 kids and 2 dogs). The kitchen had everything we needed and the huge dining room was great for a celebratory meal. All the beds were really comfy and the showers were hot and powerful. The garden was full of plums and apples when we were there in September, so an added bonus. There are walks straight from the front door (note that a footpath does go across the front of the house, but only two sets of walkers went past when we were there). Can't recommend it highly enough.

About the location

PRIESTCLIFFE

Bakewell 7 miles.

Priestcliffe is a small hamlet of farms and dwellings, sited between Taddington, the River Wye and Monsal Head. This is the scenic heart of the Peak District, with high limestone hills offering fantastic walks. Monsal Head is a famous beauty spot, with a magnificent view down Monsal Dale and up the Wye Valley. The position is at a spot where the Wye, on its passage eastwards to meet the Derwent, encounters a band of harder rock and is forced to make a sharp turn southwards and carve its way through a high ridge of limestone. The view is spectacular, with the river far below, winding through a steep-sided and often rocky valley. The route of the former Midland Railway makes its way along Monsal Dale and was carried by a viaduct over the river and into a tunnel which goes right beneath Monsal Head. This is now part of the Monsal Trail, a popular route with walkers. The attractive market town of Bakewell is just 7 miles away and offers visitors a good selection of shops, restaurants and pubs, as well as frequent local farmers’ markets. An ideal location for exploring the Peak District National Park.
